Notify on thread not working for me

Hi all, Any of you having trouble with "notify on thread"? I could not get it to work. Have the sound for notify on thread turned on in notification settings for mail and also marked the thread I'm interested in to be notified. Still, no sound when replies come in. Thanks for any suggestions,
