That method of holding down the home button and saying send a message to John followed by what you want to say works quite well. That is my standard method of sending text messages, and as long as there are no gross dictation errors, it works great and you can send a full paragraph or so

Mike, You will have to manually type the person’s name if in your contacts, or the phone number/email address in to the “to” box. The nice thing is, if they are in your contacts, you should only have to type part of the name and you will find a list of suggestions below the “to” box. Double

Mike, One thing you can do is hold the home button the entire time that you wish Siri to listen to you, this should eliminate the problems you have with pausing. I do agree that using dictation seems easier because you can pause and resume dictation using the 2 finger double tap. I hope this
