Hello Mary,

I am a HumanWare Rep, in Montana. I have not heard of any such battery issues.
As far as I can tell you there is not any battery issues with the units. The
devices are selling faster than HumanWare thought they would. I do think there
is a little wait for the units, but it’s not bad.

Thanks,

Ed

I wonder if anyone has or has seen one of these in action. It’s just
finally been released, having been announced last year. It’s claim to fame
is that it instantly will sync with your eye devices via an app that’s
available in the App Store. What interests me is to know if the notetaking
capability in the device is independent. That is. Can you access the
things you input using the device, manipulating the notes, deleting them
etc. If it’s not, I don’t find this terribly interesting. But for just
slightly less than $1000, I suppose it could be interesting if it really
could act as an independent notetaking device. I’m also not thrilled with
only 14 Braille cells. It’s hard to take that seriously.

Apple Id problems

2018-04-15 Thread denise.avant
Hello all,

I recently changed my Apple id using my phone, and with the assistance of a
support person from Apple. However, I have noticed two things. First, when I
open itunes on my computer, and try to sign in, it is not recognizing the
new id, and is loading things under my old apple id. Second, sometimes when
I am opening an app on my phone, I get a popup message with my old apple id
and a message saying to sign in, go into settings. No content has been
changed on the phone. I should mention that when I go into settings, I am
able to see the new apple id under my name.

If anyone can provide some clarity, I would appreciate it.

Alexandra,

I've played around some more with Dolphin Easy Reader since my last post and
I'm not sure It works with content in Dropbox. At least I couldn't figure out
yesterday how to load Dropbox content into it. I'll add to Richard's comment
that Voice Dream Reader is the best of these reading apps in terms of features
and versatility at accessing the type of content I use.

Good luck.

I did not quite understand what you were asking. My favorite app for reading
files that I download from DropBox is Voice Dream Reader.

You can set VoiceDream Reader to stop after every sentence, or pause it and
navigate back or forward by sentence.

Plus you have the option to use higher quality voices, though some of the new
VoiceOver voices are quite good.

You can also then read books from BookShare, Word, Etc.

RE: apple watch buy or wait?

2018-04-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Given the sluggishness of the series 2 I can only imagine what a series 1 would
be like. It is interesting how Apple succeeds in getting people to buy what are
expensive watches every few years. It used to be that one would buy a quality
watch and have it for many years, even decades or a lifetime. Now Apple has
taken the watch and made it into just another technology gadget which needs to
be updated every 3 or 4 years. When I bought mine I bought the stainless steel
version because I liked the fact that it had a sapphire crystal screen and
sounded just a bit tougher. I do sometimes wear it in my woodworking shop or
when I’m out and about doing stuff and when I had a braille watch I broke the
lid/crystal on a pretty regular bases. I think next time if I do eventually
upgrade I’ll buy whatever is the cheapest model given the fact that one can’t
expect to get 6 or 8 let alone 10 years out of it.

I think you can buy it now, of course nobody knows what will happen, but I
doubt the watch will get a big upgrade if any in the fall and the series 3 is
apparently very good. I bought a series 2 in October of 2016 and while it’s not
bad, I find now after a year and a half it’s a bit slow. I did a reset and set
it up as a new device and that helped a bit, but I must say I’m definitely not
100% satisfied with how snappy it is and from what I understand the series 3 is
much more responsive which of course can be expected to a point.

Apple Music and Apple ID

2018-04-15 Thread Maria Reyes
Hi, If I were to switch to an iCloud email for my Apple ID, could I use an
existing apple ID that is subscribed to Apple Music. I know I will lose my app
purchases and all that stuff.
Thanks for your help.

I assume we're talking about rules that automatically move messages into
specific folders or take other actions on messages, such as deleting them.

Hi jenn, thanks for letting me know the message came through.

Yes you can access the icloud mail rules via iOS by the website but
first, you have to tell the browser to request the desktop site.

I can get this far but it is after I login, tap the mail button, tap a
button that for the moment, the name escapes me. Its just above the
back button on the iPhone though.

The next screen is where it says: preferences, rules etc. This is the
screen where VoiceOver can read all the buttons but when double
tapping on one of them, it doesn't work. Even though by turning off
VO. I was able to by accident, get to the rules screen.

As far as I can tell you there is not any battery issues with the units. The

Re: Accessing icloud mail rules on iOS

2018-04-15 Thread danielmcgee134

Hi jenn, thanks for letting me know the message came through.
Yes you can access the icloud mail rules via iOS by the website but first, you
have to tell the browser to request the desktop site.
I can get this far but it is after I login, tap the mail button, tap a button
that for the moment, the name escapes me. Its just above the back button on the
iPhone though.
The next screen is where it says: preferences, rules etc. This is the screen
where VoiceOver can read all the buttons but when double tapping on one of
them, it doesn't work. Even though by turning off VO. I was able to by
accident, get to the rules screen.

I know it is possible because I have accidentally gotten to the page with a

I can get up to a certain point after login in to my icloud account. However,
once I've reached a certain stage in the steps in trying to access the rules,
it becomes very difficult and this is the part where I had to turn off
VoiceOver. It is also the part where I accessed the mail rules by accident.

If there are any sighted folks on list and who know what part of the process I

Similarly, For those who don't know what I'm talking about, just let me know

Hi sieghard:

I fully understand what you are saying and the examiner example you are giving.
In your line of work it really does come in handy. My job is and only could be
done on my work laptop due to extremely sensitive information I handle.

I do not use a laptop at all now a day. If I flick type is integrated as a full
keyboard as they say, I could type as fast or at least as close as I do on a
regular keyboard. I see the benefits of a Bluetooth keyboard but for my daily
needs I am fine without one. Now I will say I do have a iPad and I am seriously
considering to get a Bluetooth keyboard since the area is so large and I have a
lot of trouble typing on it.

You have brought up good points and as I start to use my iPad more, I will
probably break down and get one. I could then write my employee appraisals on
it and then forward it to my work email.

I thank you for your insights.

Sincerely,

Michael

I think you can buy it now, of course nobody knows what will happen, but I
doubt the watch will get a big upgrade if any in the fall and the series 3 is
apparently very good. I bought a series 2 in October of 2016 and while it’s not
bad, I find now after a year and a half it’s a bit slow. I did a reset and set
it up as a new device and that helped a bit, but I must say I’m definitely not
100% satisfied with how snappy it is and from what I understand the series 3 is
much more responsive which of course can be expected to a point.

RE: 5-key shift keyboard

2018-04-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Michael,

I mostly agree, maybe I should have been more clear in saying that I strictly
use a bluetooth keyboard when I’m at home and where it’s sitting right next to
me anyways most of the time. I also don’t like to try and use it while I’m out
and about although occasionally if I go to a trade show and I’m only gone maybe
for 2 days I will bring my bluetooth keyboard instead of my laptop. I have my
iPhone with me anyways and the bluetooth keyboard is still a lot smaller and
lighter than a laptop and this way I can easily reply to an email where the
reply needs to be more than just a couple of sentences or at the trade show I
can type some notes about a product etc. I think at times a bluetooth keyboard
can be extremely useful and help in making the iPhone a substitute for my
laptop which generally speaking I don’t consider it to be. I would never get
the idea that all I need is an iPhone or, for that matter an iPad. Composing
longer texts whether it’s a long email, or document or a spreadsheet is just
not something an iPhone is good with and it is even less though for a blind
user. Maybe some people take exception to this statement, but as accessible as
it is, it just won’t be the same as for a sighted users. I see that again and
again when some of my staff look up something on their iPhone, they are usually
done by the time I am half way there and I’m a pretty confident user.
Another example is if I want to send an email to a customer which contains a
few links to some of the products we sell on our website. WE sell a particular
brand of german boots which are extremely popular with hikers who know their
gear, hunters as well as with police officers. In order to make this easier I
have the URL’s to these boot models on our website saved in a little Notepad
file and if I compose an email I usually say something like this:

Please take a look at the following model which might interest you:
Meindl Glockner
GTX

To write this, open my Notepad file, copy the link and then make the boot model
text into a link on my Windows PC takes me probably 20 seconds. To accomplish
this with an iPhone would be a royal pain in the behind, I could probably make
keyboard shortcuts which insert the URL, but I think it looks more professional
if the actual product name is a link and just the simple process of turning the
rotor to text selection and to select the text is just so much more involved
then to go to the start of said text with the cursor and to press Shift+End to
select that entire line.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hi list.

I was wondering if anyone had tried the five key shift keyboard? I saw it on
blind bargains. I tried it and I could not understand any aspect on how to use
it. Just credit button curious. I like flick type best amongst keyboard. I do
not own a Bluetooth keyboard and personally never will.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Michael

I wanted you to know your message came through, but I am not sure about it. I

Re: App for reading txt and pdf files

2018-04-15 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'm not using the DropBox app, so I'm not sure if this will help or not,
but if you switch granularity in the roter to lines or paragraphs,
couldn't you then move through the document with the flick up and down
gesture?

can't navigate. This is okay for short texts but not for longer texts like
books.

5-key shift keyboard

Hi list.

I was wondering if anyone had tried the five key shift keyboard? I saw it on

not own a Bluetooth keyboard and personally never will.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Re: Weather Gods Watch Face

2018-04-15 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,

Apparently the term comes from old mechanical watches where information other
than the time was referred to as a complication. So a watch that displayed the
date was said to have one complication.

Perhaps their being called complications referred to the complexities of the
device.

It is somewhat accessible, you can browse more easily than you can search. The

We have many complications which can be configured for the various watch
faces.

The complications can be configured by:

1. Loading the Apple Watch App on your phone.
2. Swipe down until you find Weather Gods and then double tap. This takes
you to our watch settings.
3. From here, swipe down until you find the watch face section you use.
4. Double tap on the ‘Display’ button and this takes you to a menu where
you can choose the small complication to appear on the watch face, including
the dedicated voiceover complication.

Re: App for reading txt and pdf files

2018-04-15 Thread Richard Turner
I did not quite understand what you were asking. My favorite app for reading
files that I download from DropBox is Voice Dream Reader.
You can set VoiceDream Reader to stop after every sentence, or pause it and
navigate back or forward by sentence.
Plus you have the option to use higher quality voices, though some of the new
VoiceOver voices are quite good.
You can also then read books from BookShare, Word, Etc.

Re: App for reading txt and pdf files

2018-04-15 Thread Alexandra
I forgot to mention that I also need to edit texts which didn's stored in
dropbox which didn't work when I tried it last time. Another thing is that when
you read a file with the dropbox app the whole file is read in one row and you
can't navigate. This is okay for short texts but not for longer texts like
books.

Re: Checkbox Gesture

2018-04-15 Thread Mike B.
Hi Richard & Simon,

Thank you very much for your help. I was activating WiFi calling on our
phones last night and the checkboxes for the verification dialogue didn't
want to co-operate. I did get the boxes checked, but I wasn't sure exactly
how I did it! LOLThanks again.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Mike,
Think of things like checkboxes, buttons, etc., as things that need to be
activated or selected.
In iOS, that is the one finger double tap.
I've seen places where while you hear a checkbox or button and you double
tap and nothing happens. Sometimes you have to flick up with three fingers
to scroll up and maybe even then flick left with one finger to get back to
the thing you want to activate before you can get it to work.
This used to be the case with the BardMobile app as an example.
It still happens on some web forms.
HTH,
Richard
