Braille for seniors?!

2019-06-28 Thread karuna Chopra
Is it possible for someone over the age of 65 to learn braille?
Exploring the accessibility features of my new iPhone, I chanced upon the
Braille entry option on the rotor. I tried using it and was amazed at how
quickly I could start typing in Braille! It was also fun and fast!
Therefore my question-can someone over the age of 65 learn to read Braille?
I know that with practice I could learn to type in Braille.
But reading braille?? Learning to interpret those raised dots into alphabets at
a reasonably fast speed! Is it possible for me?
If yes, how should I go about doing it?
Should I be buying a refreshable Braille display?
Help, guidance or any indication about this would be wonderful!
K

P.S. I am actually many years over 65! But ladies are not supposed to give
their age :-)

how to move an email attachment to the ringtone folder

2019-06-28 Thread Arlene
I sent an email with a ringtone in an attachment on Wayne's phone. The only
choices for moving the attached file is to move it to another mailbox. Is there
anyway, to search for the file in the phone, and have more choices in moving
it to the ringtone folder or if there's away to search from the ringtone
folder? It might be something so simple we're missing. Thank you.

I guess for anybody who still has an iPhone SE or 6S/6S Plus this may make
some sort of sense since these phones still have a 3.5mm headset port. For the
iPhone 7 you would have to unplug this thing each time you want to use a wired
headset and for the iPhone 8 and up it makes little sense since you can charge
them wirelessly anyways on a charging pad or stand and while I haven’t looked
up pricing for these magnetic cables I assume a basic wireless charging pad
from Amazon is about the same or at least not a lot more.

It's like being able to charge your phone magnetically. There's a very small
part of the cable that plugs into the phone and it barely sticks out of the
phone. The other part of the cable plugs into your power source, and the other
end of the cable plugs onto the other part you plugged into the phone. This
saves the wear on the phone jack. For more information and to purchase these
cables a good source is Accessible Electronics.

2019-06-28 Thread Dave Jones
It has nothing to do with the headphone jack. It's only for the lightning
port. It's equally relevant to all phones if one desires to utilize one of
these cables. I for one think they are kind of neat.

Subject: making some iPhone progress thanks to help from a friend

Hi to all. I am feeling much better about using my new iPhone. I spoke with a
good friend of mine last night. He helped me get touch ID set up on my phone
so I can unlock my phone with just my finger print. He also helped me be able
to lock my phone with the lock button on my phone so that I can decide whether
my phone is unlocked or not. I'll still have to get my apple ID and password
put into my phone. My friend also will help me get my home WIFI network
figured out so hopefully very soon, I'll be able to download some apps or get a
new voice-over voice for my phone.

Re: Question about magnetic cables

2019-06-28 Thread Arlene
It's like being able to charge your phone magnetically. There's a very small
part of the cable that plugs into the phone and it barely sticks out of the
phone. The other part of the cable plugs into your power source, and the other
end of the cable plugs onto the other part you plugged into the phone. This
saves the wear on the phone jack. For more information and to purchase these
cables a good source is Accessible Electronics.

I don’t see this as a problem on ios devices. This is a problem with the

The purpose of the magnetic cables is that the connector stays in the charging
port and the cable disconnects from it. It is supposed to save the port on the
phone from damage from plugging the cables in and removing them so often. With
the newer wireless charging this is not a factor any longer.

The advantage is that you can leave the small lightning connector in the
port of the phone so when you are ready to charge it you simply stick the
end of the magnetic cable to it. Another advantage is if the cable is
yanked it easily separates so the phone doesn't go flying off of the
surface and slam onto the floor.

Which magnetic cables would that be?

The only Apple device I’ve heard of using Magnetic charging cables is the Mac

Magnets should be kept away from phones. Though, I doubt the magnets are that

Subject: making some iPhone progress thanks to help from a friend

Hi to all. I am feeling much better about using my new iPhone. I
spoke with a good friend of mine last night. He helped me get touch
ID set up on my phone so I can unlock my phone with just my finger
print. He also helped me be able to lock my phone with the lock
button on my phone so that I can decide whether my phone is unlocked
or not. I'll still have to get my apple ID and password put into my
phone. My friend also will help me get my home WIFI network figured
out so hopefully very soon, I'll be able to download some apps or get
a new voice-over voice for my phone.

Sorry, but you are incorrect. You can buy magnetic cables with the lightning
connector. I have two of them.

I believe, Denise, you bought the micro USB magnetic cables we
discussed on another list. The Iphone takes a lightning cable so no,
it absolutely won't work. And it wouldn't be a good idea because that
cable already fits tightly. Where some peple like them is with the
micro USB ports that sometimes are pretty fragile.
