having some trouble with the voice dream reader app, am not liking it much

2019-08-18 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I'm very frustrated with voice dream reader at the moment.
I added dropbox in the content portion of voice dream and when I go to
the add button it will not see the zip file I created with 3 DVS
movies in it. I got voice dream reader because I wanted to listen to
audio books on my phone and no other reason. If I can't get this to
work, I'm deleting the app and I guess I'll be out $15. When I went
to my dropbox app, it saw the zip file I had created just fine. What
is going on?

Re: A Question about The Accessibility of the iOS CBS All Access Video Streaming Service

2019-08-18 Thread Kevin Thompson
Well, actually I am the creator, and moderator of a Facebook group called audio
description discussion. This is a group that I created along with a friend of
mine, Who is an actual narrator, about six months ago. We have over 100 members
now, and all we discuss is anything, and everything as it relates to audio
description. I don’t know if you are on Facebook, but if you are, you are more
than welcome to join the group. If you send me your information, I can add you
to the group. Or you can search for audio description discussion on Facebook.
The audio description project which is another Facebook group, usually has an
updated list of what shows are available with description. We haven’t really
made any kind of official announcements on the group about CBS ALL ACCESS
having shows with audio description, because CBS ALL ACCESS hasn’t made an
official announcement that they have audio description for certain shows. And
until they do, I thought it best to not post it to my group just yet. I wish
you much luck, and success with signing up for CBS all access through the
Apple TV app. And please let me know if you have any interest in the Facebook
discussion group. Thank you very much for your response.

RE: A Question about The Accessibility of the iOS CBS All Access Video Streaming Service

2019-08-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kevin,

Thank you so much for this information.

I do really want to subscribe to CBS All Access but I am leaning towards doing
so via the Apple TV app. I hate the idea of giving my payment info to yet
another third-party company whereas Apple already has my info.

Now that you have listed the current titles that actually offer descriptive
video, the first thing I will do after subscribing via the TV app is to see if
the audio description will work through the Apple stream.

By the way, is there some place on the web that lists the offerings with
current audio description? I look at the CBS All Access library list but did
not see any info as to which shows offered the secondary audio track.

Wish me luck and, again, thank you for the great information.

Mark

RE: Help for a Friend

2019-08-18 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Well, if I got any, as a result of a state referral, they'd be only a referral
source; I'd have to pay. But Hollie has found some, so that could be a start.

Best regards,

pretty far away from their home base. I know in Iowa we are suffering from
reduced funding and staff, so that people in the rural areas don't get services
as they used to. That's why I am asking about paid services.

they could refer one of their contracted instructors. Of course, she'd have to
pay for the lessons.

I am considering calling the North Carolina Division, once I think I have
learned all I can on my own and still need some coaching. In my case, I could
pretty much list what I want in order to save time and money gertting right to

I would think that the state agencies could put people in touch with contracted

Afternoon, all you tech whizzes.

I have a friend who is a little bit timid about technology; she’s better at it
than she thinks she is, but she’s timid, needs one-on-one coaching. She is
contemplating an iPhone. In fact, she’s got an iPada Air but has never learned
how to use it.

So here is my question: is there someone out there who offers one-on-one
training in using an iPhone? I know, I know: there are lots of resources:
Hadley, AppleVis, books from NBP. But my friend is going to need her hand held,
at least in the beginning. She lives too far away for me to do this.

So who’s a trainer out there, and how much money are we talking about?

Thanks.

Susie

Subject: calls going to speaker when screen locks

I’m running the latest IOS on an iPhone 6s. When I am on a call with the phone
to my ear and my screen locks at some point, my call suddenly goes to speaker.
Pressing the home button to open the phone again will send it back to my ear.
If I leave my thumb on the home button, it seems to keep the phone from
locking, therefore leaving the call in my ear. Do others have this issue?
Turning off the screen lock feature is not an option, due to security settings
for my work. I don’t recall this behavior in the past, but I don’t make
enough calls on my phone to say when the behavior started.

Re: Item chooser and search

2019-08-18 Thread Richard Turner
item chooser only orders the apps on the screen where you envoke it.
Spotlight search, on the other hand, searches all apps on your phone whether
they are in folders or not.

RE: Help for a Friend

2019-08-18 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Do you think she could call the Division for the Blind in Colorado to see if
they could refer one of their contracted instructors. Of course, she'd have to
pay for the lessons.

I am considering calling the North Carolina Division, once I think I have
learned all I can on my own and still need some coaching. In my case, I could
pretty much list what I want in order to save time and money gertting right to
the point. In the case of a new user, it is probably hard to know what
priorities would be.

I would think that the state agencies could put people in touch with contracted
instructors.

Carolyn

Thanks.

Susie

Hi,
A temporary remedy for this until the glitch is fixed is to go to VoiceOver
settings and access audio. There, you can prevent your phone from going into
speakerphone when phone is pulled away from your ear.

I’m running the latest IOS on an iPhone 6s. When I am on a call with
the phone to my ear and my screen locks at some point, my call suddenly goes to
speaker. Pressing the home button to open the phone again will send it back to
my ear. If I leave my thumb on the home button, it seems to keep the phone
from locking, therefore leaving the call in my ear. Do others have this issue?
Turning off the screen lock feature is not an option, due to security settings
for my work. I don’t recall this behavior in the past, but I don’t make
enough calls on my phone to say when the behavior started.

Subject: Re: Question: How to Answer the Door Using the Ring app for the Ring
Video Doorbell 2

Carolyn:

David was thinking that it would be a wonderful thing if there was a Siri
shortcut that would allow you to go directly to the talk button in the ring
app, instead of opening the app and trying to locate the answer call button
that lets you talk to the person at the door.

By the time you open the app, find the button and talk, the people are probably
already gone.

If you had a Siri shortcut, you could just say 'Siri, talk to the front door,
or whatever, like you can with the echo spot.

That would save a lot of time.

She does have a computer. Not sure about Skype, but that is easy enough to set
up, yes? I don’t think she’s done anything with the iPad, not Siri, not
nothing. When I met her, she was pretty much bamboozled by the whole thing. I
guess I’m hoping to find some names to give her, people she can contact.

Totally agree. Would be so much faster and easier than useing the
phone to talk to who ever is at the door. The buttons aren't labeled
on android at all to be able to answer the door.

Re: calls going to speaker when screen locks

2019-08-18 Thread Feliciano Godoy
Hi,
A temporary remedy for this until the glitch is fixed is to go to VoiceOver
settings and access audio. There, you can prevent your phone from going into
speakerphone when phone is pulled away from your ear.

I’m running the latest IOS on an iPhone 6s.

Yes, all of the money readers I have work as of now. I tried the IPL I think
it’s called and it does work, but in previous downloads, it kept crashing I
will try it if I get a new or crisper bill and see if that works.

I’ve got my ring video pro hooked up to a mesh Wi-Fi network. I’ve never been
able to consistently access the notifications to get the audio/video in real
time.
I usually have to wait a few seconds for the clip to play. Opening the live
stream is fine, the doorbell and a motion sensor notifications have always
been more miss than hit.

Same here and it seems not have been fixed so far in iOS 13 public beta 6. Make
sure you report it to Apple Accessibility as a bug because it is very annoying.

Peggy,
Are you talking about EyeNote, did you give it permission to use the camera?
Is this the one you got:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/eyenote/id405336354

It works great for me and for what it is worth, it tells you if it is the front
or back of the bill.
It does only recognize US currency, so if Money Reader comes back, it will work
with at least 20 currencies for those in other countries, or who travel.

What is the Nest Hello?
I have a wireless doorbell but it no longer works, because the ringer which is
the button you put on the outside has frozen. My actual doorbell is on the
inside door so I have to keep my storm door unlocked so people can use it.
That was why I but the wireless doorbell so I could keep my storm door locked,
ask who it is before I opened it.
I hesitate to get another wireless doorbell because of what happened to the
first one, so I wondered what this device is and how it's used.
Thanks,

RE: Question: How to Answer the Door Using the Ring app for the Ring Video Doorbell 2

2019-08-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is completely ridiculous that Amazon, which owns Ring, has not yet managed
to integrate it with any Echo speaker for 2-way audio communication. It is
super easy and quick to ask one Echo to drop in to another Echo, within less
than 5 seconds a 2-way audio channel is open and I don’t understand why this
can’t be done with a Ring doorbell.

Video Doorbell 2

David:

If you have the echo spot or show you can set up the two way communication with
your ring doorbell. It is faster than using the phone app, as the lag time to
open the app, find the right button and then talk takes so long most people
will give up and go away before you get things open and useable. The echo
device works right away as soon as you say your wake word, then say the phrase
‘talk to the front door, or whatever.

The doorbell will not have two way communication with the echo dot though. The
dot will alert you when someone is at the door, but you can not have two way
communication, unless you have an echo with a screen. The little spot is not
too expensive and is very small, so it fits easily on my desk.

The echo will also alert you when someone is at the door.

You would still have to use the phone app when you are away from home though.

RE: What 3words, The app that can save your life

2019-08-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And what good would a sat phone do you if you are somewhere without cell
coverage? I doubt your precious What3Words app would work without a cellular
signal/data connection which it would need to get the 3 words in the first
place.

To be totally safe, using this app. You would need to own a sat phone too.

This an also send lat and lon information which as you point out is important
in some cases.
I to live in an area with minimal cell coverage and I think that’s one of its
most significant drawbacks.

You may not always be at an address, e.g. what if you are in the middle of a
large urban park which is hundreds or thousands of acres in size or maybe not
even in an urban park, but out and about on a wilderness hike etc. Of course
this system totally relies on you having cell phone coverage which where I live
is not at all a given, in this case something like a Garmin Inreach is still
the only and best option to get out an emergency signal if something serious
happens and you need search and rescue to come get you. Inreach is satellite
based and works anywhere and it sends your long/lat coordinates which still
works just as good.
They say What3Words has split the world into I think it was 3 by 3 meter
squares which is approx.. 10 by 10 feet, so even an average 6,000 square foot
residential property will have 60 What3Word addresses and a 1,000 square foot
house or apartment will have 10, your bedroom could have 2 depending on its
size..

Sieghard

It is indeed a very interesting concept. However, I am not 100% certain that I
follow its logic. Or perhaps what I mean to say is “follow the point “. Why
complicate things by having to remember words or use words to find an address
when using an address is the best way for someone to find you in most cases?
The address system currently being used has been tried and true for what seems
like forever. Am I also missing something?

I must be missing something here. What is the problem with giving first

giving them the 3 words & have the dispatcher not know what I am talking about.
Also, isn't it true that 9 1 1 dispatch can get your location if you are using
a cell phone with location on?

What contact method are you going to use to discuss accessibility issues with
the ring support team.

I see their toll free number, but I was hoping for an email contact. This way,
the email could be directed to the person most likely to be able to help with

RE: calls going to speaker when screen locks

That has happened to me too as of late.

Robin
