RE: iPhone freezing when adding a custom pronunciation

2019-10-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can do a proper hard reset the way I described and all is well.
I forgot that you said you pushed the side button a lot and yes, if you have
Auto Call on in Emergency S O S pressing it 5 times will initiate a 9 1 1 call.

Hi,

subject line says it all.

My wife managed to dislodge her SIMM tray whilst removing her Iphone 7 from its
smart battery case and as a result all the entries in her phone app under
"recent" have disappeared even though the SIMM is now back in place.

Is it possible to recover them or is it one of Apples "security"
features that purges the phone when the SIMM is removed?

Any suggestions welcome.

RE: My frozen Iphone 8

2019-10-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, I meant to say one more thing. If your iPhone freezes like this again
and by freezing I mean when Voiceover goes away, you can do a hard reset as
follows:
1. Press volume up and let go
2. Press volume down and let go
3. Press and hold the side button and count to about 10 or 12, if you have a
feel for counting seconds this is all it takes, then let go of the side button
and wait about 15 seconds and your iPhone should reboot with Voiceover coming
on and asking for your passcode.

Subject: My frozen Iphone 8

Hello again, iPhone friends,

This past Wednesday night, and again last night, my iPhone 8 literally froze,
and I could do absolutely nothing. I couldn't shut it down, or turn off
voiceOver, or restart it... nothing! In fact, on both occsions, pressing and
holding the on button made my phone make some terrible siren-like sound and
connect me with 911. I have learned that when this happens, the phone goes
into emergency mode, and though a sighted person may see something onscreen to
disable it, we who are blind can do nothing because voiceOver is also disabled.
Apparently, this feature can also be disabled by the person who answers your
call which is what happened last night. This has been a problem encountered by
many sighted iPhone users since recent updates introduced in settings the SOS
button.

After last night's encounter, I went into the SOS button in settings and
discovered that holding down the home button or the on button to contact 911
was activated. I turned off all of the buttons that were activated in this
setting, and hopefully solved the freezing issue for now. You will, no doubt
recall that it was I who began the thread earlier this week about my phone
updating without my permission. I had never had my iPhone 8 freeze until this
past Wednesday. I'm sharing this post to prevent it happening to you. APPLE
should fine a way to make emergency mode work with voiceOver. I'll share this
information with them, as I have shared it with you.

RE: My frozen Iphone 8

2019-10-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Duane,

Only holding the power button will not call 9 1 1.
I also have an iPhone 8 and here is exactly what it says in Settings >
Emergency S O S:
Press and hold the side button and either volume button to make an emergency
call.
If you swipe right it says:
Call with side button, On
Of course you can toggle this to Off, but your phone will only call 9 1 1 if
the side button is pressed at the same time as either volume up or volume down.
It also has this descriptive line:
Call emergency S O S when you rapidly press the side button 5 times. Pressing
and holding the side button along with the volume buttons will continue to work
when this is on.
Underneath this is the following switch:
Auto Call, On
Once again this is an on/off toggle.
I assume if you turn off both call with side button and auto call that you then
can’t call 9 1 1 by pressing the side button 5 times quickly or by pressing the
side button and one of the volume buttons.
I furthermore assume you were holding down one of the volume buttons while you
were also holding down the side button which is why 9 1 1 was called.
I just tried just holding down the side button and after 2 or 3 seconds the
Power Off option appears, but when I held it down longer (I held it maybe 10 or
12 seconds in total) nothing at all happened.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hello,
I didn't mean for my phone to update to the new IOS, but it did, so I'm getting
used to it. However, I need some help with something.
I had a different notification sound for my default email account than for my

notification sound. Can this be changed? I went to every place I thought
possible to change default sounds but couldn't find where to do it.
Can someone help with this?

I’m wanting to transfer several albums and Playlists which aren’t on Spotify
onto my iPhone SE, with iTunes version 12.10.1.4. However NVDA doesn’t seem to
read the songs in the list, so I can reorder them as needed, before
sincronizing the iPhone to Itunes! I’m in no position or way to obtain Jaws for
now, thus what would the best course of action be besides forgetting about
Itunes? I’m in no way able to buy the Walter program discussed on here either.
Thanks for info.

I was having the very same issue with my XR and here is what the Apple Store
person told me to do to solve the problem. Be sure to upgrade to 13.1.3, then I
went into settings and reset settings. Since I did that last Thursday 17 of
November, the freeze only happened once more that day and not since.

Mine drives me crazy with VoiceOver going off after some calls. I can't figure

that out, I wonder if that could be helpful, because it does not do it all of

Peace & Blessings,
Duane L. Steele

You have to reset all settings. It is a pain to then reenter passwords, read
cards to Apple pay, and so on. DO NOT RESET the phone itself to "factory
settings" that is different. Despite the inconvenience of reentering info, that
is a much better option then having my phone freeze when I am out and about and
cannot call anyone.

Go into Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Speech, Pronunciations, Add. You
can then enter your original word or phrase and how it should be pronounced.
However, today it kept freezing.

Hello,
I didn't mean for my phone to update to the new IOS, but it did, so
I'm getting used to it. However, I need some help with something.
I had a different notification sound for my default email account than
for my other. With the update, that changed, and now the emails have
the same notification sound. Can this be changed? I went to every
place I thought possible to change default sounds but couldn't find
where to do it.
Can someone help with this?

Re: Questions regarding connecting a headset

2019-10-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Aren't the volume settings for the internal speaker and a bluetooth
speaker separate? If so, turning your volume all the way up when using a
bluetooth speaker shouldn't cause any additional power drain or
distortion. It's just a digital signal between your phone and your
bluetooth speaker.

Are you able to manually open the message and double tap in the message field
where you would normally reply?

Then, you could use the dictate function with a two finger double tap to start
and end dictation.

If you are on iOS 13 you may want to explore the Voice Control functions and
see if that could help.

These are guesses as I don’t dictate text messages.

Hi,

I am wondering how to reply to a group message without forming a permanent
group. So, when I get a message from multiple people, and I want to reply to
everyone without dictating all their names to SIRI, how can I do that with
speech, my speech, or a button on the screen?

Is there a reply to all button or can I say reply to all or some other phrase
that will work?

Hope this makes sense!

Vicki

RE: Questions regarding connecting a headset

2019-10-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
What is received by the headset is not at a fixed volume, if you have the
volume on your iPhone turned very low then turning the volume on the headset to
maximum still may cause the volume to be low.
It is best that when the headset is connected that you turn the volume on the
phone quite high and then turn it back down using the volume buttons on the
headset.

As for other volume you should check in Settings > Sounds if "Change with
buttons" is turned off.

Hello everyone,

I just recently purchased a bluetooth headset. It is an over the ear set, made
by a company called, Letscom. I really like them, and am glad I purchased them.
However, I have noticed that when I use them, the voiceover sounds quiet. I
turned up the volume, using the buttons.

Is this the way I should go about it?
Or should I use the volume buttons on the headset itself?

Also I have noticed that once I go back to using the phone without the headset,
that my sound volume is lower. For instance, my messaging sounds are lower. And
when I look at the sound settings, I have to turn the volume back up.

What might be causing this?
And is it normal?

Thank you,

Terri

If a Dropbox link is activated and that link ends with "dl=1", where
does the file go?

Questions regarding connecting a headset

2019-10-26 Thread Terri Stimmel

Thank you,

Terri
