Re: Which echo Dot is the best

the difference I have found so far is that the 3rd gen has deeper bass than
the 4th. the 4th gen's speaker does not surround the speaker. It is shaped
like a softball and its speaker points at a 45 degree angle upwrds.

The Echo Dot does not cost $100 anyways, maybe the regular Echo does.
I just bought an Echo Dot 4th Gen during Black Friday for $49.99, this is
the one which has a clock and I bought it for my wife. She really likes it
because the LED adjusts based on brightness in the room so at night it's not
very bright, but bright enough for her to see the time with one glance when
she wakes up.

The regular 4th Gen Echo Dot is $69.99 here in Canada, but even now it shows
a limited time offer and a sale price of $39.99 which is probably $29.99 in
the US. If that were the price and the difference is only $5 to the third
Gen I would always buy the latest.

Sieghard

Yes indeed! The person on the other end sure saved my bacon today. lol
Still having a small problem though, and that is that I can't even manually
switch the airpods between phone and mac. If they are connected to the phone,
on the mac side they just won't connect. And same happens on the mac side, they
for whatever reason don't connect to the phone. I'm using an iPhone SE 2020
and a 2015 macbook prO. It's one thing not to have automatic switching not
work, but I need to at least be able to switch manually.

Hi all, I'm really hoping someone can help me out here. I just got a set
of Airpods Pro, and was trying to get them to switch automatically
between my iPhone and macbook pro. They connect to each device, but the
automatic switching doesn't seem to be working. So, I went in to system
preferences on the mac, to check if there was a setting I needed to
change, but in messing around in there, I somehow switched to another
sound device, as I have a program that registers another device, but for
use in that app, but now I can't get it back. I tried cycling VO to see
if it would fix itself, but no sound, and I can't even tell if I got VO
back on. If you have ever had something like this happen to you, how did
you fix? Also, how did you get the airpods to switch between devices as
 advertised?

AirPods Max Announced, Apple Fitness+ Release Date, Matte Black MacBook?

2020-12-10 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Lists,

This should kill a few mixed thoughts currently,

Brought to you by: [cid:image005.jpg@01D6CFE5.CAB183E0]

Apple Announces AirPods Max Over-Ear Headphones With Noise Cancellation, Priced
at
$549
Last week, MacRumors obtained an AppleCare
memo
that hinted at a potential hardware announcement on December 8, and Apple
delivered by introducing new wireless over-ear headphones called AirPods
Max.

Key features of the AirPods Max include high-fidelity audio powered by an
Apple-designed H1 chip in each ear cup, spatial audio, active noise
cancellation, and adaptive EQ. Design wise, the headphones have
magnetically-attachable memory foam ear
cushions,
stainless steel telescoping arms, and a headband with a "breathable knit mesh"
that distributes weight to reduce on-head pressure, according to Apple.

Similar to the Apple Watch, AirPods Max feature a Digital Crown on one ear cup
for precise volume control and the ability to play or pause audio, skip tracks,
answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri voice control. There's also a
noise control button for switching between active noise cancellation and
transparency mode, which lets some outside sound in so you can interact
naturally with your surroundings.

AirPods Max feature up to 20 hours of battery life with active noise
cancellation and spatial audio enabled, and they come with a carrying case
called the "Smart Case" that puts the headphones in an ultra-low power state
that helps to preserve battery charge when not in use.

Priced at $549, the AirPods Max are significantly more expensive than some
other popular over-ear headphones, including Sony's WH-1000XM4, which are
currently priced as low as $278. AirPods Max can be ordered now, with
availability starting December 15, but the headphones are already backordered
until March on
Apple.com.
There are five color options, including silver, space gray, green, sky blue,
and pink.

RE: Apple introduces AirPods Max, the magic of AirPods in a stunning over-ear design

2020-12-10 Thread Simon A Fogarty
 John,

Mac rumours have just released a review and said there are a number of you
tube unboxings already out about these headphones.
They compared the airpod max with the sony equivalent and bose noise
cancelling 700 version headphones and admit they are similar but the noise
cancelling in the apple might be better ,
But the price of the sony and the bose are half that of the apple headphones.
And they are a costly / expensive product but as you say they are only
expensive if you can't afford it.

I don’t understand people saying that they are too expensive. Maybe too
expensive for them. Too expensive for me at this time. But they are
competitive. They are competitive with like products. Shop around for hi-fi
high-quality, not bows.

I have had expensive headphones in the past I do have very expensive
floorstanding speakers. Well again expensive for me but there are other much
more expensive hi-fi speakers.

Apple is saying these are high-end high-quality high Fidelity headphones. If
they are and that is a fantastic price for also getting all the features of
AirPods.

I just bought an Echo Dot 4th Gen during Black Friday for $49.99, this is the

The regular 4th Gen Echo Dot is $69.99 here in Canada, but even now it shows a

would always buy the latest.

If
they are and that is a fantastic price for also getting all the features of
AirPods.

This is on topic because I am talking about the Vesync app for the iPhone in
conjunction with this air fryer. Well I just don't get this. I went

to the Vesync app and it said that it was successful. Now I can't find it

Subject: [Electronics-Talk] Cosori Air Fryer question

Good afternoon,

I listened to the seminar on Air Fryers that the NFB of MO conducted. I'm
curious about the Cosori Air Fryer.

I'm looking at the ones on Amazon, but I have no idea any more which ones
people are getting.

Also, how do I get the one that Amazon will hook up to my account for Alexa
to begin working automatically? Any help would be appreciated.

What I'm hoping is that I can get a good deal on either Black Friday or
Cyber Monday.

What do you guys have? I saw one for something like $85, but it said nothing
about Alexa or a phone app. And, I don't see any check boxes for
incorporating my Amazon Alexa account into the Air Fryer the way was talked
about in the seminar.

Jim

I don’t understand people saying that they are too expensive. Maybe too
expensive for them. Too expensive for me at this time. But they are
competitive. They are competitive with like products. Shop around for hi-fi
high-quality, not bows.

I have had expensive headphones in the past I do have very expensive
floorstanding speakers. Well again expensive for me but there are other much
more expensive hi-fi speakers.

Apple is saying these are high-end high-quality high Fidelity headphones. If
they are and that is a fantastic price for also getting all the features of
AirPods.

Or these could just be people who like the sound quality and features they get
from these headphones and they think they're worth the price. I'm sure I'm
buying a lot of things where people think I'm being foolish over what I find
important and what I'm willing to pay for. For me, purchases are a personal
decision. I know what I'm willing to spend my money on, and I don't pass

No, sadly not. That probably would have done the trick though.

Hi all, I'm really hoping someone can help me out here. I just got a set of
Airpods Pro, and was trying to get them to switch automatically between my
iPhone and macbook pro. They connect to each device, but the automatic
switching doesn't seem to be working. So, I went in to system preferences on
the mac, to check if there was a setting I needed to change, but in messing
around in there, I somehow switched to another sound device, as I have a
program that registers another device, but for use in that app, but now I can't
get it back. I tried cycling VO to see if it would fix itself, but no sound,
and I can't even tell if I got VO back on. If you have ever had something like
this happen to you, how did you fix? Also, how did you get the airpods to
switch between devices as advertised?

Re: Apple introduces AirPods Max, the magic of AirPods in a stunning over-ear design

2020-12-10 Thread lenron brown
A fool parted from it's cash. After while apple will be able to charge
crazy prices for anything and people will still buy. Wait they already
do that. People are crying about being broke during this pandemic, and
Apple is still selling new macbooks and now these max Airpods like
hotcakes. Rich people or everyone is just maxing out the credit cards
just so they can have the latest and greatest. Man if I had cash I
would go buy up some apple stock while it's still under 150 dollars.

iOS and font sizes are a mystery to me. I’ve never gotten any information
about the actual font size unless I didn’t want it, like in Notes, it
chatters on about the font and font size when I just want to edit, etc.

I’d try increasing the page size and have your wife see if it is changing
the font enough to be of use.

Best of luck,

Richard,

Is there some keystroke that will give me the font size, so if I increase
the percentage of the page scale I'll be able to tell if it's changing font
or not? I tried double tapping on the format button the other day, noticed
it was at 100%, so I didn't try increasing it.

I’m not sure what this does, but double tap on the format button in the top
left and the first thing I just found was a “page scale” which is one of
your favorite picker item/adjust value places, grin. Flick up and it goes
from 100% to 115, 125, 150, …

You can also flick right to request desktop site. I don’t know if that has
more options on it. It may depend on the web site.

I hope that helps.

Subject: Font Size With Safari

Hi All,

Running iOS14.2 on an SE 2020 phone. I was trying to complete a medical
form using Safari the other day and ran into an incident where I needed my
wife to look at the phone. Well, the font was so small that she had to use
a magnifying glass to read it. The font size was set correctly in the
places I know where to look but, where do I change font settings for Safari,
if different? All help is appreciated. Thanks mooy moocho.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Re: What banks mobile application is most accessible

2020-12-10 Thread John JD Denning
I agree at the Bank of America, and also the capital one are good choices. Out
of the two I prefer the Bank of America app. It’s only gotten better over the
years.

I’ve recently been using the Wells Fargo app and I’m not thrilled about it. It
works it seems clumsy to me.

Restoring Sound on the mac

2020-12-10 Thread Justin Harris

Re: Questions regarding Apple TV

2020-12-10 Thread regina alvarado
Terry, Yes, you have to have the apps for the programs you want to watch. Apple
TV Plus I have watched right from the app, but everything else I watch from
apple TV app but have the app for the network or whatever I am watching. The
other thing about streaming is that every app except those you purchase on a
subscription have to reside on your cable or app such as sling, spectrum app,
youtube TV, etc. Now if I am incorrect on any of this please correct me
everyone. Streaming is relatively new to me. When I ask for a show in the Apple
Tv app it takes me to the show.

As I mentioned in an earlier message, I recently purchased a new phone. So now
I am able to sign up for Apple TV, free for a year. I decided to take advantage
of this.

Here is what I would like to know. I was looking through some of the shows that
were offered. It stated there were shows from HBO Max, CBS all access, and
other networks.

However, if all these shows are offered, does this mean that you would then
have to pay for each service that offered the show?

That's what I am thinking would have to happen.

If you were to do this, would you then watch the shows through the Apple TV
App? Or would you have to download each App that you had subscribed to?

I am just a bit confused by this. So I am needing some clarification.

Thank you,

Having said this, it really depends on what phone you have now, I really

Yes, the 12 Mini is relatively small and it packs the latest chip, 5G and so

I love the idea of a smaller phone. I’m interested to know about battery life

Questions regarding Apple TV

2020-12-10 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have some questions regarding Apple TV. I can't remember if stuff like
that can be asked here. So if not, I do apologize. If someone lets me
know, I would appreciate it.

As I mentioned in an earlier message, I recently purchased a new phone.
So now I am able to sign up for Apple TV, free for a year. I decided to
take advantage of this.

Here is what I would like to know. I was looking through some of the
shows that were offered. It stated there were shows from HBO Max, CBS
all access, and other networks.

However, if all these shows are offered, does this mean that you would
then have to pay for each service that offered the show?

That's what I am thinking would have to happen.

If you were to do this, would you then watch the shows through the Apple
TV App? Or would you have to download each App that you had subscribed to?

I am just a bit confused by this. So I am needing some clarification.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Font Size With Safari

2020-12-10 Thread Richard Turner
iOS and font sizes are a mystery to me. I’ve never gotten any information
about the actual font size unless I didn’t want it, like in Notes, it chatters
on about the font and font size when I just want to edit, etc.

I’d try increasing the page size and have your wife see if it is changing the
font enough to be of use.

Best of luck,

Richard

Richard,

Is there some keystroke that will give me the font size, so if I increase the
percentage of the page scale I'll be able to tell if it's changing font or not?
I tried double tapping on the format button the other day, noticed it was at
100%, so I didn't try increasing it.

I’m not sure what this does, but double tap on the format button in the top
left and the first thing I just found was a “page scale” which is one of your
favorite picker item/adjust value places, grin. Flick up and it goes from 100%
to 115, 125, 150, …

You can also flick right to request desktop site. I don’t know if that has
more options on it. It may depend on the web site.

I hope that helps.

Re: Font Size With Safari

2020-12-10 Thread Mike B
Richard,

Is there some keystroke that will give me the font size, so if I increase
the percentage of the page scale I'll be able to tell if it's changing font
or not? I tried double tapping on the format button the other day, noticed
it was at 100%, so I didn't try increasing it.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hi,
I added the words, iPhone clock to the subject line to help make it clear what
you need help with.

You could try the Raise To Wake feature under settings, display and brightness.

RE: has anyone ever used any of the speed dots screen protectors for their iPhone?

2020-12-10 Thread R Van Lant
I had them on my first two iPhones and planned to get one for my newest phone,
but haven't done it yet. I really appreciated them to make finding certain
common buttons, such as Back, Send, and such quicker. I find now that my
figers have the muscle memory on my new phone, since it's the same size as the
old one I had with Speed dots, so I haven't gotten a new overlay yet, but it's
a nice screen protector that adds functionality. They have two models that
differ in how many bumps are on the keyboard area. I think I preferred the one
that had fewer dots, only marking the F and J keys and a few others. The other
model has a bump for almost all the letters, except for the F and J and, while
this was good when I was first learning, it wasn't necessary for me or kind of
tickled my finger to have so many bumps, especially in other apps that are not
using the keyboard. If you feel like it will help, it's a small investment and
gives you a screen protector to boot.

Hi to all. I was checking out the latest issue of the top tech tidbits email
and I heard a mention of speed dots screen protectors for the iPhone. They
don't yet have one's for the newest iPhones the
12 series, but they do have one's for the iPhone 8, which is what I have. I
don't know if I would really need one or not, but they do sound interesting.
What do you all think? Does anyone who has used one, like it? Thanks for any
advice.

Re: Iphone mini

2020-12-10 Thread Dan Yates
I recently purchased the iPhone 12 mini and have been using it for about five
days loving it, so nice to have something smaller and I’ve had no concerns
about the battery life whatsoever I went from an ex or 10 to this and one
concern I had was that I wondered if the sound would be as good and I can state
that there was no decrease in sound quality with the smaller phone
Very happy with my new phone!

RE: Silencing VO during calls

That sounds good. I do not want to turn off VO, because if I get an incoming
call, I want to know where it is coming from.

These are two different commands, and depending on what you want, you may wish
to use one command or the other. The three finger double tap turns off
VoiceOver speech. VoiceOver won't speak anything at all again until you toggle
speech back on with another three finger double tap. The two finger single tap
just stops VoiceOver from what it's speaking at the moment. It'll start
speaking again as soon as any event on your phone sends more text to the text
to speech engine.

Definitely beneficial for me. I don't always stay in one place when performing
a gesture, and I find that the screen dots do help me focus my fine-motor
ability, as well as get me used to locations of certain things as I'm learning
the interface.

I got one for my first touch screen smart phone, the iPhone 4S. Although I
don't think it was absolutely necessary, I did find it useful. I never got one
for my Samsung S7, and I haven't been tempted to get one for my iPhone 11, but
like I said, they don't get in the way and they can be beneficial.

has anyone ever used any of the speed dots screen protectors for their iPhone?

2020-12-10 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I was checking out the latest issue of the top tech
tidbits email and I heard a mention of speed dots screen protectors
for the iPhone. They don't yet have one's for the newest iPhones the
12 series, but they do have one's for the iPhone 8, which is what I
have. I don't know if I would really need one or not, but they do
sound interesting. What do you all think? Does anyone who has used
one, like it? Thanks for any advice.
