I have had the Tado thermostat for three or four years now. The app works
with Voiceover to set schedules, alter the temperature etc. The Tado can track
your movements and turn on or off automatically should nobody be at home. It
also works with the Amazon Echo well and may well work with Google, but I have
not tried this.

Hello,
I am looking for an app to be able to record/pause and perform quick edits or
replace parts of recording on the iPhone with VoiceOver.
Does anyone have a recommendation?
I already tried using the VoiceMemos app on the phone and although I can record
and make replacement to parts of recording, I can't seem to locate a means of
trimming parts of recordings accessibly. When I place the wave form in what I
feel is the correct place and double tap on trim, the part still seems to play.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

RE: Diabetes Management & Glycemic Index Apps

2021-06-03 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Linda,

Sudden drops are always going to be an issue for you but things you could look
in to would be the

Freestyle Libre Link
Which has a very accessible app for the iPhone,
And the sensor is approx. 1.25 inchs diameter and is attached to the back of
your arm while in use,

Usage time is approx. 14 days,
Possibly shorter if in the USA (not sure why).

They are a product of Abbott diabetes care which is a Uk company I believe.

I use these myself as a type 1 / insulin dependant diabetic.

There is also another product called dexcom

These are again a CGM device which can talk to your mobile phone via a usable
app on the phone.
The Dexcom also has a Bluetooth attachment which means unlike the libre link
you don’t have to scan the sensor to get the BG reading.

The Dexcom can talk directly to your phone / app via Bluetooth every I think
its 5 minutes and therefore gives you a more constant glucose reading.

Also both systems apps allow you to setup alert / alarms that if readings are
to low, they will not just tell you but can be made to send a message to
important other who can then carry out any assistance if required.

As for apps re food / glicemic index etc,

There are probably a lot but you would be best to check out what is available
in your country of residence,
I don’t’ think the app I have for new Zealand would be of any good to you in
your nation of origion

Hope this helps.

Good luck

Also, has anyone found an accessible app for determining the glycemic index of

Hello linda,
The alarms Andy is referring to on the free style libre only work for someone
with enough sight to set them.
The version of the free style that will have alarms that someone like myself
who is totally blind has not been approved by the fda yet.
If you are totally blind and need the high and low alarms i suggest the dexcom
as its fully accessible and it also has the ability for someone else to recieve
notifications that you are high or low.

RE: 2048 game app

2021-06-03 Thread chaffin102468
Hi Traci,

Yes, I really like this game. My family plays it, so I was so happy to find an
accessible one.

The object is to match numbers together until you reach the number 2048 before
you run out of moves.

This is a game that you can play for a while, put down, and come back to it
later.

The board is a grid of columns and rows. I like turning my rotor to virtual
navigation, that way you can move by row or column just by swiping 1 finger the
direction you want to go.

Now, when it comes to moving numbers, you can not move just one number,
instead, you move all numbers the direction you choose. You move by swiping 3
fingers whichever direction you want numbers to move.

For example, when you start a game, you have 2 number twos on the board.

If they are on the same column or row, then just swipe 3 fingers toward one of
the number twos, and they will go together and turn into a number 4.

So when two numbers comes together to make a single number, more numbers will
appear on the grid to fill in some of your empty squares.

Remember, only same numbers go together, like 2 twos, 2 fours, 2 eights, etc.

I hope this has made sense.

Good luck!

Chris

Hi,

I know this is not an I phone question but possibly some of you might be able
to help. How do you ask Alexa please to bring up previous Radio 4 In Touch
programs please. What are the commands . If I ask her for the most recent one
that's ok but it's ones before that I can't get. Thanks.

Diabetes Management & Glycemic Index Apps

2021-06-03 Thread lynda.ingraham
Hi Everyone,

I an a non-insulin dependent diabetic. Recently diagnosed after having
Covid. My knowledge of tools to manage blood sugar is limited to talking
glucometers. My problem is this, my blood sugar drops so rapidly, by the
time I realize there is a problem, it is too late. Are there any apps that
would work along with a patch that could alert me to the fact my sugar is
dropping rapidly? I am afraid to work my dog outside alone for fear of
having a severe hypoglycemia attack.

Also, has anyone found an accessible app for determining the glycemic index
of various foods?

Thank you in advance,

Lynda

Re: 1 3 word app

2021-06-03 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
Spelling would be critical, but since a computer is involved, the result would
be accurate or so wildlyinaccurate as to be clear
enough not to take seriously.
The other aspect is how good gps signal was when the code/location was set.
That would be outside the scope of the sender to deal
with, or have any control over.

But even a location within 100yds would be of some benefit.

I just did a brief test with the app.

It is not very good with VoiceOver. It is workable, but lots of unlabeled
buttons.

It may be enough to get your location if you are at a place with good GPS
accuracy that you could then enter those three words into Apple Maps, or Google
Maps, or BlindSquare, etc., but I would not try to depend on it by itself.

RE: What3Words

2021-06-03 Thread Richard Turner
I just did a brief test with the app.
It is not very good with VoiceOver. It is workable, but lots of unlabeled
buttons.
It may be enough to get your location if you are at a place with good GPS
accuracy that you could then enter those three words into Apple Maps, or Google
Maps, or BlindSquare, etc., but I would not try to depend on it by itself.

Agreed, but ear buds like the original Airpods have very little noise
cancellation and wouldn't block much sound. Ear buds like the Airpod Pros have
transparency mode so would allow ambient noise to come through.

Your choice, but I think that would look odd,

With the frames you are wearing glasses as the speakers are within the arms of
them as are the volume and power / play etc controls, Infact all you would see
is the very small power button on the base of the arm as a control.

And wearing earpods / airpods wouldn't let you hear the surrounding sounds like
the frames or aftershockz will give you.

The Tempo seems to be highly recommended by list members. However I
noticed that the older alto has two features not mentioned in any of the
 newer models:
 Integrated microphone
 Multi-directional motion sensor

Do the newer models have microphones for taking calls or giving commands

What is the advantage of a multidirectional motion sensor, either in

I hope someone has tried the alto and knows what this does.

Orange

Hi. The Frames Tempo doe not have the directional features of the earlier

I am a month behind in reading mail from this list. Hope you will forgive
me for asking questions on Bose Frames.
I didn't know about them and am absolutely fascinated by the idea! I want
headphones I can wear while walking outside that would allow me to listen
to GPS directions from my phone as well as sounds in the environment. The
open ear technology sounds like it will do that.

Since I have no vision, not even light perception, the lenses are not
important except that polarized do seem to be better than non-polarized.
The Tempo seems to be highly recommended by list members. However I
noticed that the older alto has two features not mentioned in any of the
 newer models:
 Integrated microphone
 Multi-directional motion sensor

Do the newer models have microphones for taking calls or giving commands
 to the phone?
What is the advantage of a multidirectional motion sensor, either in
general or for me as a blind user?
I hope someone has tried the alto and knows what this does.

Thank you in advance for your help, as well as for bearing with me on this
 subject.
