Hi Folks

Thanks to a friend of mine I can confirm and reproduce a new unknow bug and
please DO ALL REPORT TO accessibil...@apple.com it is not a dramatic one but it
is a bug.

Go into the appstore, go to your account and see what apps are ready to be
updated, for me now I update them manually so I have 7 apps to go and my first
shown update is linkedin.
And now the bug appears: after half a minute linkedin has been fully updated
and see there, I stil have 7 apps to update so the digit 6 should appear but
stays on 7 and this is eventually a bug so report this to accessibility.

RE: Voice Clock won't start at my appointed start time.

2021-10-13 Thread robini71
Hi,

I tried both your suggestions and still no joy here on my iPhone 13 Pro Max
running iOS 15.0.2. I can’t imagine what variable causes it not to work here
when it works for others. It is a mystery. Thanks for replying though I
appreciate that.

Take good care and enjoy the sounding of the chimes for us all.

Hi Robin,

It does do the quarter hours. The only way I accidentally got it to work is
that on the setting screen I turned the announce of the quarter hours on and
off a couple of times. When you hear it chime, you know it is on. That is if it
is on, it will chime right away.

By the way, I also turned on the clock display. The chiming started working
after that, but I an not sure if it was turning the display of the clock on or
the repeated turning the chime on and off.

Good Luck!

Take care and stay safe!

Hey Richard and others,

How on earth do you get big Ben to work? I bought it, installed it set its
notifications as it asked and nothing doing here. I miss having my quarter
hours chimed if it does that. As I said here it's doing a bunch of nothing
making me kind of sorry I bought it.

Take good care.

Hi.

I’m trying to get Voice Clock to work with no stop time. What I mean is I have
it start at midnight, and it stops at 11:59 p.m., essentially going 24 hours a
day. When it’s working, it works great. Problem is it stops at the indicated
time, but it doesn’t start back up. The only way I can get it working is to
open the app, and it works again until the next night.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: voa] confirmed bug in the update section of the appstore

2021-10-13 Thread Mike B.
For myself with an SE 2020 iPhone running iOS 15.0.2 after I double tap the
update all button I need to swipe to the first apps download status, then
swipe back to the update all button, and then Voiceover reports the
countdown status of the updates.

Stay safe & take care. Mike.

Actually the app store count does exist for me if I have say 3 or 4 updates
and manually tap each update button for each app. In this case it would say
at the top before I do this "Update All, 4 updates available" and if I then
do 2 of them and they are done it still says the same. Yes, if you tap
Update All it counts them down correctly, but not the other way. I would
probably have never noticed this and it's not really a bug which effects my
productivity or causes me any problems.

Sieghard, I think that everyone needs to go & buy an iPhone 11. LOL!! The
bugs listed so far: The app switcher bug, the wallet app bug, Siri not
responding on the lock screen (Not refering to asking for messages, emails,
phone calls to be read. I don't use Siri for these things.)& now the app
store update app bug. I'm not experiencing any of these bugs. The only bug
I'm experiencing is the Screen Grabber bug in the mail app, which prevents
draft emails that have a recipient address from being able to be deleted,
unless the draft email is sent to oneself.

RE: Question about Apple watch, series 7

2021-10-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Terry, your band will fit, but one thing I don't understand is why you would
spend any money on upgrading from a series 5 to a series 6, if you have money
to burn and want the series 7 then OK, but even that in my opinion is not much
of an upgrade worth spending anything on. I expect the series 8 next year will
have much bigger improvements and I certainly won't upgrade my series 5 watch
for at least another year or two. Yes, it's everybody's choice, but here we
have all these expensive gadgets, iPhone, Apple Watch, maybe even an iPad
and/or a set of expensive Airpods and every couple of years we upgrade it all
or maybe you upgrade one or two things one year and the other thing or two the
next so each year you drop hundreds if not a Thousand or more on this tech
addiction.
Just out of curiosity, what do you think a series 6 or 7 watch can do over your
5?

Subject: Question about Apple watch, series 7

Hello everyone,

So I am wanting to upgrade my watch. I currently have a series 5. I am
interested in the series 6.

However, when I was looking on the Apple store, the series 7 seems
cheaper. I don't know why this is the case. But if this is accurate,
thththen I will likely upgrade to the series 7.

So here is my question.

Are the series 7 watches only 41 MM, or 45 MM cases?

I have a 40 MM case now, and I would like to stick with this, if at all
possible. Only, because I have the Melanese loop band.

Any thoughts, or suggestions are much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: voa] confirmed bug in the update section of the appstore

2021-10-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Actually the app store count does exist for me if I have say 3 or 4 updates
and manually tap each update button for each app. In this case it would say at
the top before I do this "Update All, 4 updates available" and if I then do 2
of them and they are done it still says the same. Yes, if you tap Update All it
counts them down correctly, but not the other way. I would probably have never
noticed this and it's not really a bug which effects my productivity or causes
me any problems.

Sieghard, I think that everyone needs to go & buy an iPhone 11. LOL!! The bugs
listed so far: The app switcher bug, the wallet app bug, Siri not responding on
the lock screen (Not refering to asking for messages, emails, phone calls to
be read. I don't use Siri for these things.)& now the app store update app bug.
I'm not experiencing any of these bugs. The only bug I'm experiencing is the
Screen Grabber bug in the mail app, which prevents draft emails that have a
recipient address from being able to be deleted, unless the draft email is sent
to oneself.

2021-10-13 Thread Ken Brown
The thing is though in the past you did not have to refresh when you were
updating one app at a time it would just automatically countdown so they had to
change something.

RE: Question about Apple watch, series 7

2021-10-13 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Both sizes in the series 7

The 41 mm replaces the 40mm and the 45mm replaces the 44mm

Due to the way they have the screen curveing over the edges of the watch I
believe

But really if you have the series 5,
Why do you at this point wish to change to the series 7?

There isn't really a lot of difference in them other than the 7 has the blood
oxygen meter,
Otherwise pretty much the screen is the only other difference,
The series 5 is only 2 years old,

And there is no series 6 available from what I can see on apples site any
longer,

My personal thought would be to hold off for another 12 months unless you have
a real urgent need to have the updated watch.

I've ordered one myself simply due to the dying battery in my series 4,

But even then it was still a choice between the SE and the series 7.

Good luck.

To turn off emoail notification:

1. Open Settings.
2. Go to Mail.

3.Turn off Notifications.

Question about Apple watch, series 7

2021-10-13 Thread Terri Stimmel

Thank you,

Terri

2021-10-13 Thread Donna Casteen
Sieghard, I think that everyone needs to go & buy an iPhone 11. LOL!! The bugs
listed so far: The app switcher bug, the wallet app bug, Siri not responding on
the lock screen (Not refering to asking for messages, emails, phone calls to
be read. I don't use Siri for these things.)& now the app store update app bug.
I'm not experiencing any of these bugs. The only bug I'm experiencing is the
Screen Grabber bug in the mail app, which prevents draft emails that have a
recipient address from being able to be deleted, unless the draft email is sent
to oneself.

I'm not seeing this bug. I too, update apps manually. Using your example, once
I go down the list of apps & tap to update, while the app download shows 0% the
number of apps needing updating does not change from 7 to 6 until an app has
fully been updated & moved into the Recently Updated appp list.

manually.

Another bug I can't reproduce. Maybe you can explain this more?
For example, just now I checked and I have 8 app updates. On my home screen it
says "App Store, 8 updates available"
When I open the App Store and go to my account just before the first update I
get "Update All, 8"
If I tap this "Update All, 8 button and keep focus on it, I hear Voiceover
repeat it every time an app finishes installing and it goes down to 7, 6, 5 etc.
The same is true on my home screen, if I go back to my home screen after
tapping Update All and put focus on the App Store app, I'll hear Voiceover
speak App Store, 7 updates available, App Store, 6 updates available etc.
Is that what you mean or am I misunderstanding what you are describing?

Subject: voa] confirmed bug in the update section of the appstore

Re: Query relating to Bluetooth speakers

2021-10-13 Thread Duane Steele
A postscript to your texts about Bluetooth speakers and VO for those wanting to
know is that most Bose bluetooth speakers do not change at all when going to
more info and clicking on speaker, but continue to play VO through the speaker.
Anyone contemplating purchasing a Bose unit should be aware of this in case
there's some concern about playing VO through speaker or iPhone. Those wanting
this feature to be consistent with voiceOver going through the phone and
everything else through the speaker may wish to check out other brands.

RE: voa] confirmed bug in the update section of the appstore

2021-10-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

2021-10-13 Thread Richard Turner
I’m late in this topic as I stopped reading all the messages with the subject
15.0.2 is out; as that subject line doesn’t involve specific bugs.
So, I have no idea what bug was reported that you say can be reproduced by
everyone.

Please, start a brand new message with the subject line related to the bug.

You normally don't see bugs being introduced in versions like this.

These versions fix things and close security gaps.

You normally don't see bugs being introduced in versions like this.

These versions fix things and close security gaps.

Re: wallet app crashes

2021-10-13 Thread Chris Chaffin

Someone posted yesterday that Apple Accessibility told them as a work around,
you can go into settings, double tap on Wallet, and you will find your cards
listed. You can then double tap on whatever card you want to see the same
information that you could see in the wallet app.

Hope this helps.

RE: wallet app crashes

2021-10-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Explore by touch is not an option, it simply means you don't swipe but move
your finger around on the screen until you find what you are looking for and
then you double tap.
For example, on the home screen if the first row of apps is App Store,
Settings, Camera and Photos you can find Camera by touching near the top and
let's say you land on App Store, you then swipe right twice to get to Camera
or instead of swiping you can drag your finger across because one assumes you
know that the Camera app is in the same row but to the right and then once you
find it you double tap.

RE: wallet app crashes

2021-10-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As you pointed out, this has been discussed and was mentioned on Applevis as a
known bug since the day before iOS 15 was released back in September. Probably
not much you can do about it if you experience this (not all people do) and
wait for a fix from apple.
Apparently some users say that if you don't swipe but explore by touch you can
use the Wallet app.

RE: Query relating to Bluetooth speakers

2021-10-13 Thread Richard Turner
This can vary quite a bit between Bluetooth speaker brands, so not knowing your
brand, which is fine as I certainly do not know about all brands, but with some
brands, in Bluetooth settings, when you flick up to more info on the speaker in
question, and double tap, there is an option to change the type to speaker,
which in theory puts VoiceOver on your phone speaker and all other things like
music and videos through the Bluetooth speaker.

If VO is stopping speaking, you might also try toggling VoiceOVer on and off if
that is easier than turning the speaker on and off.

Again, the above is in theory, not all speakers behave as they ought.

Subject: Query relating to Bluetooth speakers

Hi all,
I recently purchased a Bluetooth speaker. Have the following queries while
pairing it with my XR:
1. How do I ensure that voice over speaks through the phone and the apps play
through the speaker?
2. When I am playing any video/ audio in any app say Youtube and in between the
app if I go back to the Home screen, voice over stops speking. Only option left
is to start stop the speaker.
Thanks

Apple Says iOS is Safer Than Android Because Sideloading Apps Isn't Allowed

Apple Says iOS is Safer Than Android Because Sideloading Apps Isn't Allowed

Wednesday October 13, 2021 5:00 am PDT by
 Joe Rossignol

In response to the European Commission's proposed Digital Markets Act, which
could force sideloading of apps on the iPhone in Europe, Apple has
 shared an in-depth document
highlighting the security and privacy risks of sideloading. Sideloading
refers to installing apps outside of the App Store, such as from a website
or a third-party app store.

Apple's document, titled Building a Trusted Ecosystem for Millions of Apps,
states that "mobile malware and the resulting security and privacy threats
are increasingly common and predominantly present on platforms that allow
sideloading." For example, Apple cited Nokia's 2019 and 2020 Threat
Intelligence Reports that found Android devices to have an "estimated 15 to
47 times more infections from malicious software" than iPhones.

Android smartphones are the most common mobile malware targets and have
recently had between 15 and 47 times more infections from malicious software
than iPhone. A study found that 98 percent of mobile malware targets Android
devices. This is closely linked to sideloading: In 2018, for example,
Android devices that installed apps outside Google Play, the official
Android app store, were eight times more likely to be affected by
potentially harmful applications than those that did not.

On the other hand, Apple claimed that malware on iOS is rare and said that
many of the attacks on the platform are "narrowly targeted attacks, often
carried out by nation-states." Apple added that "experts generally agree
that iOS is safer compared to Android, in part because Apple does not
support sideloading."

Apple said if it were forced to allow sideloading, users would be subjected
to more malicious apps and have less control over apps after they download
them onto their devices. Apple added that some proposed sideloading
legislation would also mandate removing protections against third-party
access to proprietary hardware elements and non-public operating system
functions, resulting in security and privacy risks for users.

Apple added that even users who don't wish to sideload and prefer to
download apps only from the App Store would be harmed if sideloading were
required, as some users may have no choice other than sideloading an app
they need for work, school, or other essential reasons. In addition, Apple
said criminals may trick users into sideloading apps by mimicking the
appearance of the App Store or by advertising free or exclusive features.

Apple touched on many of these arguments
in a similar document shared back in June. Apple CEO Tim Cook
previously claimed that sideloading apps "
would destroy the security of the iPhone" and "a lot of the privacy
initiatives that we've built into the App Store."

 Apple's document goes on to
provide examples of common malware affecting mobile platforms like Android
and makes more arguments against sideloading.

Apple has faced increasing scrutiny over its App Store, which remains the
only place to install apps on the iPhone and iPad, excluding devices that
have been jailbroken. Fortnite creator Epic Games sued Apple last year for
anticompetitive conduct, but it was unsuccessful in getting the court to
force Apple to allow third-party app stores on iOS.

Re: wallet app crashes

2021-10-13 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello,

Yes, this is a known issue with the Wallet app and Voiceover. The current
workaround is to use explore by touch and to drag your finger to the card you
want to open instead of flicking to it. After you locate it with explore by
touch double tap on the card you want to view and once the card details are
open you can resume flicking with the normal Voiceover gestures.

I hope this helps,

Ed Worrell

How do you mean

I know on the iPhone you have to go in to voice over settings and designate the
caps lock as the VO key in order for this to work.

Well, I'm not sure with a iPhone keyboard, but on the Macintosh, you can just
hold down the caps lock key and press the key you want to use, just like
holding the "control-option" key combination for the Voiceover keys.

If I'm wrong, I apologize for passing incorrect info.

Hi all,

With VoiceOver, on a regular keyboard you can also use CAPSlock as the VO key,
don't know if the keyboard you're talking about has caps lock, but it might be
worth a try.

I can’t seem to remember what the keyboard commands is to use VO commands.
Right now when my phone is connected, I can swipe to things on my phone but I
cannot activate anything with double tap gestures using the keyboard. I can
type into search fields and if I use the up and down arrows I can activate the
context menus but can’t activate anything. I’ve actually even tried using
space bar and the enter key as I would on a laptop keyboard but if memory
serves there are actual keyboard commands to evoke VO functions when using a
blue tooth keyboard.
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Query relating to Bluetooth speakers

2021-10-13 Thread Christopher Chaltain
To determine whether VoiceOver comes through the Bluetooth speaker or your
iPhone just make sure audio destination is in the VoiceOver roter and then you
can twist to audio destination in your roter and flick up and down to determine
where VoiceOver output will be going.

1. How do I ensure that voice over speaks through the phone and the apps play

2. When I am playing any video/ audio in any app say Youtube and in between the

Re: IOS 15.0.2 is out

2021-10-13 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I'm not exactly thrilled at how my iPhone has worked since I updated
to 15 either. However, a lot of my recent issues I was having with my
iPhone, were due to me not knowing what I was doing and messing up
some settings on my iPhone itself, not due to any update. I know the
newer updates will address some of the issues with Siri that a lot of
us are having. It is only common sense. Also, one of my major
problems with my iPhone is just due to not a lot of space on my phone
itself. Noone is at fault at all for that but me.

Query relating to Bluetooth speakers

2021-10-13 Thread turab chimthanawala
Hi all,
I recently purchased a Bluetooth speaker. Have the following queries
while pairing it with my XR:
1. How do I ensure that voice over speaks through the phone and the
apps play through the speaker?
2. When I am playing any video/ audio in any app say Youtube and in
between the app if I go back to the Home screen, voice over stops
speking. Only option left is to start stop the speaker.
Thanks
