RE: Changing voicemail greeting so that callers don't hear VoiceOver saying "stop" when I finish recording

2022-01-03 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi cathy,

I'd tell your sister to keep her nose out of it,

It's your phone and your greeting,

If someone hears voiceover at the end of the greeting,
Who really cares.

Just go with it
Cheers,

My sighted sister is actually trying to pick a fight with me over this. How can
I record a voicemail greeting on my iPhone 8 and not have VoiceOver say "stop"
when I finish recording? For the sake of my sanity, please help. Thank you.

Hello iPhone Listers,

Forgive me if I'm running over old territory. I have some files on an SD card
recorded on my Victor Stream that I'd like to get stored in my Dropbox folder.
But my old Windows computer has, shall we say given up the ghost. I have
Dropbox as a readily accessible APP on my iPhone. Is there a device you might
recommend to attach to my iPhone from which I could send files to my dropbox.
Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Siri is no longer speaking in response to questions on my iPhone

2022-01-03 Thread Mary Otten
I have Siri set to always speak responses, even when silent mode is on. And all
of a sudden, for the last couple of days or so, when I ask a question, I get no
vocal response from Siri. I’m used to this if voiceover is disabled, but with
voice over on, I expect to always get a spoken response. Is anyone else having
a problem here?

revised instructions for customizing what is spoken on the status bar

2022-01-03 Thread Dennis Long
After feedback I have revised the instructions see below.

NOTE when creating the dictionary entries TURN ALL APPS from on to off.
SET it TO HOME SCREEN FOR ALL OF THEM

Now follow the below instructions.

1 go to settings double tap.

2 accessibility double tap.

3 go to voice over on double tap.

4 speech double tap.

5 pronunciations double tap.

6 tap add

Then follow the instructions below

On the Status bar it says cellular 4 of 4 bars signal strength I wanted to
change this so I did this:

1 Put in the phrase box

of 4 bars, signal strength

2 Substitution

Bars

3 turn off "apply to all apps it is set to on by default.

4 select home screen after turning "apply to all apps to off.

5 press back button.

I didn't want

Status bar item spoken so I did this

1 In the phrase box I put

Status bar item

2 substitution just put in a space.

3 turn off "apply to all apps it is set to on by default.

4 select home screen after turning "apply to all apps to off.

5 press back button.

I didn't want not charging spoken I did the following.

1 in the phrase box I put

Not charging

2 substitute put a space.

3 turn off "apply to all apps it is set to on by default.

4 select home screen after turning "apply to all apps to off.

5 press back button.

I didn't want battery power spoken I did the following.

1 in the phrase box I put the following

Battery power

2 Substitution battery

3 turn all apps from on to off.

4 select home screen.

5 press back button.

Now when swiping my status bar reads like this.

Visible

Re: Changing voicemail greeting so that callers don't hear VoiceOver saying "stop" when I finish recording

2022-01-03 Thread Holly

Carolyn:

I don't have a headset, but tried it using my blue tooth enabled hearing
aids and still got the 'stop' at the beginning.

The only way I was able to get around it was to use remote access from my
landline phone to my voicemail and change the greeting that way.

RE: Changing voicemail greeting so that callers don't hear VoiceOver saying "stop" when I finish recording

2022-01-03 Thread Carolyn
I just went into mine with a headset, and I can see, that probably the only way
to avoid that would be with a headset. I put in a new greeting, and VoiceOver
has to say Stop, so that you can double tap at the end of the greeting.

I do not know what version of iOS you are using, but it seems to me that recent
versions, 14 and 15 are better about not capturing the VoiceOver voice at the
end of recordings. This is just anecdotal though.

I was able to get it to work. I did it a little different then you did Dennis.
I had to put the phrases in to smaller chunks, but I did eventually get it to
work. The really cool thing is, is that you can just delete all entries if you
wish and have things back to normal if you wish. Thanks again.

First of all whether your sister is visually impaired or cited should not even
be a factor. The easiest way to block voiceover out of your voicemail greeting
is to use your earphones onyour iPhone and go through the steps.

Mine has been set since 2018, and I checked to make sure that it does not say

I do not know what version of iOS you are using, but it seems to me that recent
versions, 14 and 15 are better about not capturing the VoiceOver voice at the
end of recordings. This is just anecdotal though.

Good idea; I'll try that. I tried just turning speech off, but I didn't sound

Re: Changing voicemail greeting so that callers don't hear VoiceOver saying "stop" when I finish recording

2022-01-03 Thread Kathy Blackburn
Good idea; I'll try that. I tried just turning speech off, but I didn't sound
particularly friendly when I made the recording, so I need to do it over.

Way Around app issue

2022-01-03 Thread R Van Lant
Hi,
I'm having an issue with the Way Around app and wondering if I'm alone. I'll
write to the company, but wanted to check. I'm on the IOS 15.2 on an iPhone SE
2020 and the app is fully updated. My issue is that nothing happens when I hit
the Read button to read a tag or, after editing the fields to create a new
tag, it won't "Write the tag. It says Way Cloud Connected at the top and I've
even logged out and back in, but it hasn't worked for the past couple days.
Can't recall when I used it before this past week, so I cannot say when the
issue started. Anyone else having issues?

Robin

Re: Changing voicemail greeting so that callers don't hear VoiceOver saying "stop" when I finish recording

2022-01-03 Thread Jennie Facer
The best thing to do is to use earbuds or wired earphones to create your
greeting so that VoiceOver does not say stop after the recording. That is what
I had to do. AirPods will work or wired air buds that come with some phones.

Changing voicemail greeting so that callers don't hear VoiceOver saying "stop" when I finish recording

2022-01-03 Thread Kathy Blackburn
My sighted sister is actually trying to pick a fight with me over this. How can
I record a voicemail greeting on my iPhone 8 and not have VoiceOver say "stop"
when I finish recording? For the sake of my sanity, please help. Thank you.

Brailliant BI-14 question about command key

2022-01-03 Thread Bill Outman
Hi, list.

I am getting more in depth with my braille display use in both iOS and Jaws
using my Brailliant BI-14.

Many displays have a command key but I know the BI-14 doesn't seem to have
one. Does the five way button serve this purpose or do I need to employ
some other key combination to duplicate what a dedicated command key would
do?

Re: the power of Voiceover dictionary

2022-01-03 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I was able to get it to work. I did it a little different then you
did Dennis. I had to put the phrases in to smaller chunks, but I did
eventually get it to work. The really cool thing is, is that you can
just delete all entries if you wish and have things back to normal if
you wish. Thanks again.
