RE: Siri and music recognition

2024-01-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Tom,

I am running the latest commercial release of iOS on my beloved 14 and Siri
identifies music just as well as it has always done.

In fact, even in a crowded restaurant or out on the sidewalk, Siri has never
failed to respond with the name of the song in question.

A couple of days ago, while in a car at a stop light, I heard music being
played from another vehicle and, even as the light changed and our respective
vehicles began to move farther apart, Siri managed to grab the name of the song
the driver of the other car was playing.

When I ask Siri to identify a song, I never have a headset attached to the
device.

When I asked Siri why it can't do that, it gives me the usual BS answer about
it finding something on the web but won't give me a direct answer, which is

Anybody notice this? If so, what did you do about it? Thanks,

Hi,
I imagine that both platforms have the same commands, but you need to research
that. Look up the commands for both platforms then go from there. Both
platforms are great, it's a matter of what works best for you and what you want
to accomplish.

Hello all,

The subject line says it. I was hoping I would not need to get a voice assist
device but the app is not super accessible. So, if I do, which should I go with
Alexa, or Google Assistant?

Thank you,

I have the opportunity to get something like a Ring Doorbell. I’ve been
thinking about getting one for a while, but I wanted to hear from folks
regarding its accessibility and how you guys use it with either your phones or
Alexa devices or something else. I’m looking at getting it sooner than later,
so if you have thoughts, please let me know soon.

Thanks much.

Good afternoon,

I have the opportunity to get something like a Ring Doorbell. I’ve been
thinking about getting one for a while, but I wanted to hear from folks
regarding its accessibility and how you guys use it with either your phones or
Alexa devices or something else. I’m looking at getting it sooner than later,
so if you have thoughts, please let me know soon.

Thanks much.

Siri and music recognition

2024-01-04 Thread Tom Lange
Hi folks,
Up until IOS 17's recent updates, I've been able to ask Siri what music is
being played on the radio, through my Sonos speakers or whatever. But now it
says it can't recognize music right now, which it used to do pretty reliably.
When I asked Siri why it can't do that, it gives me the usual BS answer about
it finding something on the web but won't give me a direct answer, which is
another pet peeve. Don't tell me that you found something on the web, just give
me the effin' answer, dammit! I get so aggravated with Siri's apparent
stupidity and annoying behavior. So what's the deal with Siri's inability to
recognize music that's being played and picked up with the phone's microphone?
Anybody notice this? If so, what did you do about it? Thanks,
Tom

RE: Incoming call name announcement

2024-01-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Marilyn,

I have two suggestions for you:

1.
Increase the length of time it takes for an incoming call to be sent to
voicemail. In the US, the default time is set to 20 seconds. However, you can
call your wireless provider customer service department and request that the
time be increased up to 40 seconds.

2.
During an incoming call, simply press the Volume Up button, once, located on
the side of your iPhone. Doing this will silence the ring tone and allow you
to touch the display screen in order to get VoiceOver to speak the caller ID of
the incoming call.

Apologies if this is not exactly related to the topic, but my concern since the
latest iOS version has been that I am not able to find the ‘explore’ feature.
For example, if someone sends me a WhatsApp message containing photo, I no
longer can explore and read the text on the photo.

I would appreciate any advice.

The strange thing is that VoiceOver still read the title/description fields for

recent pictures, even though I add titles and descriptions in the exact same
way in the exact same text fields, VoiceOver now only reads «Picture» or «Live

Has anyone experienced this, and do you have a solution?

I would very much have direct access to the title and descriptions, and not
have to oppen the picture to read the description or title.

Re: Ring Doorbell

2024-01-04 Thread Ignacio Suarez
Hi Jim. Recently, I acquire the Blink door bell. It was suggested to me by the Amazon accessibility department. Supposedly it is the equivalent as the ring doorbell, but it is a cheaper version. As for my experience, I can tell you that it is very accessible with an iPhone, and it works with the Alexa speakers. The only issue I had was trying to add a subscription. I had my wife that is cited to do it for me. Other than that, when the bell rings, I get a video through my phone and the speakers ring at the same time. I hope this information is helpful for you. Take care. Sent from my iPhoneOn Jan 4, 2024, at 4:56 PM, portillo@gmail.com wrote:Good afternoon, I have the opportunity to get something like a Ring Doorbell. Hello Anne,

If focus is on the keyboard and one does a two finger forward/back movement,
(which I believe is mapped to VO-escape) then the keyboard is supposed to hide
itself. Moving away and back to a text field should re-expose it.
When this happens VO says keyboard hidden, but it is not a dialog, but just an
announcement.

Sometimes, though, the keyboard disappears for no reason I can find, and the only way I know to recover it is to connect the K480 and toggle it on. It would seem there should be a setting on the phone that would recover it, since the stinkin'

searching of wireless mic to record outdoor videos for my iPhone

2024-01-04 Thread Mohib Anwar Rafay
Hi list members, I am currently using iPhone 15 standard model. I am
willing to buy a wireless dual channel mic with charging case for my
phone to record videos on the go. I love traveling and i usually
record videos of the places i am visiting. But due to windy and
traffick situations, my voice doesn't get recorded in good quality
with the mic of the phone. Therefore I am looking to buy wireless mic
to record video with high quality voice.
The issue i am facing in selecting the mic is that, i want to use
voiceover while using the mic, while in most of the wireless mics, the
type C port of my phone is engaged by mic receiver and i can not hear
the voiceover on the speaker as phone treats the mic receiver as the
headset. Therefore if anyone has any good recommendation of a good
quality wireless mic to resolve my issue, let me know.
I was considering, Rode Wireless Me, DJI wireless mic, Boya link and
few others, but not sure whether these will work along with voiceover?

Re: Apple watch and sleep focus

2024-01-04 Thread 'Angie Nutt' via VIPhone
I’m glad that mystery is solved. Actually, I should have twigged I suppose
because when I first started using sleep focus just before Christmas I noticed
the display darkens; I can see a tiny bit. I noticed the display come to life
when tapping the watch. I perhaps should have twigged that I needed to tap it
once to wake and then twice to get the vibrations.

All the best

Day one's daily streaks don't match reality

2024-01-04 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Ever since the "Diary" app I used for the past several years, is no longer in
the App Store, I decided to switch to "Day One", but the issue I'm having is
this: I tend to write a lot (maybe about 3/4 journal entries a day), thus the
journaling streaks don't seem to match up! For instance, let's say that in
reality I've journaled daily nonstop for 10 days, right? But when I look at the
streak within the app, it says I've journaled about 13 or so days! So I imagine
that in order for the streaks to match, one or 2 journal entries per day is
what should be done? Anyone of you'll use "Day One" that could shed some light?
And yes I've tried apple's just-released "Journal" app, but it still needs some
work to do, to reach the features "Day one" has!

RE: VoiceOver not reading photo text

2024-01-04 Thread Gezim Rexha
Apologies if this is not exactly related to the topic, but my concern since the
latest iOS version has been that I am not able to find the ‘explore’ feature.
For example, if someone sends me a WhatsApp message containing photo, I no
longer can explore and read the text on the photo.

I would appreciate any advice.

Cheers,

Gezim

I am not having that problem. I am on iOS 17.3 beta.

Hi,

Previously, if I wrote something both in the title text field and the photo
text field/description field for a photo in the Photos app on my iPhone or Mac,
VoiceOver would automatically read this text when I navigated between photos
both in the iOS Photo app and the MacOS photo app. It was a nice way to keep an
overview of the content of my photos.

The strange thing is that VoiceOver still read the title/description fields for
the pictures I added descriptions for a year ago or more, but for my most
recent pictures, even though I add titles and descriptions in the exact same
way in the exact same text fields, VoiceOver now only reads «Picture» or «Live
Photo» when I navigate between those new pictures in my photo library.

Has anyone experienced this, and do you have a solution?

I would very much have direct access to the title and descriptions, and not
have to oppen the picture to read the description or title.

Best,
John André
