just got an amazon firestick, and don't know how to enable audio descriptions using youtube tv.

Hey all,

sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I just got an amazon firestick, 
and I put the youtube tv app on it.
I also have the app on my phone, and I know that to enable audio 
descriptions on my phone, I have to go in to youtube tv, and find the 
secondary audio option.

On the firestick, I can't find that option.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or can give me some 
ideas?

noticed when I was recording something, phone call ringer didn't come through speaker.

Hi all,

Tonight, I was recording something, and I received a phone call, but I 
didn't hear the ring tone come through the speaker.
I tried just press record, and I also tried audio memos, but got the 
same result.
I would like to record things, and if I get a call, have the ring tone 
come through.  I noticed that in a previous update, just press record 
talked about phone calls not intrupting recordings.
Any help would be apppreciated.  If anyone still knows of a recording 
app that works, let me know.

any tips on renaming an amazon musix playlist.

I have created a few playlists in the amazon music app, and I want to 
rename a few of them.

Every time I double tap on edit, voice over won't let me rename anything.
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or if you can 
please give me any tips on renaming playlists in amazon music?

airdrop and bard mobile question

My girlfriend is getting a new phone soon, and she  was wondering, can 
she air drop her bard mobile app to her new phone?
The reason I am asking this, is because when we  transfered our apps 
from our old phone to our  new phone in the past, all our books are not 
saved, so we have to redownload them.

Having dictation problems with IOS 16.1.

I have noticed that sometimes when I dictate something, I am having 
trouble.  I was wondering if anyone can give me tips on how to make my 
dictation a lot better?
Also, do I need to have any of the smart dictation settings set in the 
keyboard settings?

displays new things for you to listen to.
I was wondering after you have listened to something like a podcast, is 
there a way to have it not show up again?  I see there is a mark as 
played, and I'm wondering if that will skip that episode when you are

What I figured out was, if you go in to a category, and double tap on a 
station, and it starts playing, you will see an option that says preset 
off, if you double tap on the toggle, and make it say on, then I'm 
thinking it will make some sort of favorite, but I can't access them.

for several stations, but I can't figure out how to access them

That is the problem that I am having.  I did also turn on the presets 
for several stations, but I can't figure out how to access them either.  
Looks like we will all have to do a bit of exploring.

facebook, and siri.

Hey all,

I am using IOS 10.3.  Today, I attempted to post to facebook using siri.  It 
has always worked till now.
I went in to the facebook settings on my phone, and deleted the account, and 
then went to siri, and turned it off, and uninstalled the facebook app.
Then, I reinstalled the facebook app, and enabled my account on the phone, and 
told siri to work with facebook from siri settings.
Every time I ask siri to post to facebook, I get the message please enter your 
facebook password, even though I am logged in.
Any suggestions?

wish apple didn't eliminate posting to facebook with siri in IOS 11

One of the main reasons I’m not upgrading to IOS 11, is the fact that you can 
no longer say to siri post to twitter, or facebook.
I did that a lot, and that was easier for me to do, and I don’t know how the 
rest of you feel about that, but just thought I would share that.  I hope they 
will bring that back soon.

unable to add subscriptions with lire.

I am using lire version 3.0.12.
I went to add a subscription, and couldn’t find any categories to choose from.  
Every time I press add subscription, I am put in a search box right away.

storage question

I have an IPhone 5 s, and I was going through my storage, and it told me that I 
have 2.5 gigs of mail used, but I have deleted the account for mail off of my 
phone.
I was wondering, how can I get this to make that number smaller?
Also, I deleted some videos, but the storage doesn’t reflect that.

bug in rev recorder, looking for another recording app.

Hey all,
A few days ago, I posted a question about what recording app people use that 
will record in m4A, or allow you to use the m4A format.
You guys gave me great suggestions, but I found a bug in rev recorder.  Today, 
I tried to record something, and with the screen locked, I found out that rev 
locks, and stops recording after 6 minutes.
I was wondering if anyone can please give me again what recording apps you use, 
and if you know of any that will let you lock the screen, and have the 
recording still be going?

IPhone not saying number of messages.

Hey all,

I have the latest update to IOS, and usually, I can have voice over say 
messages, 4 unread messages.
Now, it just says messages, and I have to go in to the messages app to see how 
many I have.
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue?  It really isn’t a 
big deal to me, but I was wondering if there is a setting that I can change, or 
if I’m not the only one that is experiencing this.  I have an IPhone 5S.

siri not working.

I know the IPhone has serie, but I was wondering of any other apps that people 
use for voice assistance?
I know that you can use google, and it will read things to you, but I’m 
wondering if that is just for the droyed.
The other day, we were wanting to cook lopster, and someone who was over with 
us asked google how to cook the lopster, and the phone read it to her.
I think she has a droyed.

best app to use for keeping track of sports scores.

I am looking for an accessible app to use for keeping track of sports scores in 
different leagues, or teams?
Also, if the app has news, that would be great.  I have the at bat app for 
baseball, and I love that one.

notifications not reading in IOS 9.

Hey all,

Just updated to IOS 9.  I discovered this when I tried to send myself a text 
message.
I heard my text tone go off, but voice over didn’t read the notification.  I 
had to swipe to read the notification.
I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?
That’s all the bugs I can find so far.

trouble with ICloud and apple ID settings.

When I go to iforgot.apple.com, and enter my info, I get a message that says 
that they can’t recognize my identity.

Bard app request timing out.

Today, I went to try and get some books from my wish list.
The items are there on the site, but not on the app itself.

I met the chap who recorded the voice that became Nuance’s Daniel at a 
conference recently – he’s called Jon Briggs and he said that, if we were 
thinking that his voice sounded familiar, then it’s because he is the 
voice of Siri and half the station announcements in the UK too. Actually 
in my station of Warwick he’s literally half the announcements as he 
announces all the Northern-bound trains while a nice lady does the 
South-bound ones.

weird issue when I double tap on IPhone to stop, or play something.

Hey all,

I have noticed something that has been happening recently.
I have the latest update to iOS 7, and when ever I pause something, and then 
I play something else, and do the 2 finger double tap to stop something new, 
what I paused earlier resumes.
For example, I went to sirius xm, and started listening to a station.  Then, 
I did a 2 finger double tap to pause the audio for a moment.
then, I switched to another app, and played something else, and then when I 
tried to stop that app, my spot in the sirius xm app resumed.

Anyone else experiencing this problem, or know of how I can get rid of this?

I am using the rev recording app.
It is an excellent recording app, and you can choose the type of recording you 
want.
It can be high-quality, or low-quality, and you can also upload your recordings 
to dropbox, and other apps.
It is also very accessible with voiceover.

The app is very accessible to people who are totally blind.
You might have to label some buttons, but once you do it is easy to use.
There is a podcast on Apple vase, that will teach you how to label the buttons, 
and how to use the app.

Hello, I highly suggest that you do a three finger double tap to silence 
voice over if you are using the sleep timer with any app. If you do not 
silence voice over, when the timer shuts down, voice over will announce 
screen locked .

siri questions for iOS 7

Hello there,

I have installed iOS 7, and I was wondering, in siri, how do you ask for a 
business by city, or catagory?
Also, I am having trouble using dictation.  Every time I send a message, 
siri says capital G, and doesn't read back the message.

Is anyone else experiencing these problems?

Best way to get Emoticons is to add the Emoji keyboard to your list of
available keyboards. Do this as follows:

Go to Settings, General, Keyboards, then find emoji under e in the
alphabetical listing of keyboards and select it.

Now, when ever the virtual keyboard comes on the screen, you have a button
between Dictate and More numbers which allows you to switch between the
regular English US keyboard and the Emoji keyboard. On the Emoji keyboard
you have several tabs along the bottom which give you a ton of Emoticons.

If you dictate a text message with SIRI and just want to insert or add a
quick simple emoticon like a smiley face, you can just tell SIRI smiley
face after you finish dictating your text message and it will put it in.

Hi, it sounds like you are deleting the contact details rather than the 
actual contact entry. So, you must delete the actual contact entry and 
that will take all the details with it. Find the contact you want, double 
tap edit, now swipe down to the very last field. A single tap with 4 
fingers on the lower part of the screen will take you there, now swipe 
left a couple of times and then swipe right to the end and the delete 
button should be there. Double tap that and the entire entry will be gone 
and you will be placed on your list of contacts with that one gone.

Hi all, I agree with Ann's assessment about BlindSquare. It is a great app to 
use. I use the amount streets only setting, when you are in a vehicle. I also 
try using the points of interest setting, and it works good. But sometimes, it 
can talk a little too much. LOL.

voicebook VO unable to connect with facebook.

Every time I try and log in to facebook using voicebook VO, I get an error 
message that says something about a token and inquire about user.

It works pretty well but there are accessibility issues. The TV Guide does 
not work at all but you can schedule shows to be recorded and see what the 
most popular shows are. It is far from perfect but much better than 
nothing at all. I use it all the time.

I go in, and hit record, and then when I'm done, I swipe to the stop button, 
and then, I hear play dimmed button.

Any suggestions?

To change the button action so you can record by double tapping the Record
button instead of sliding it to the right (which you'd have to do with
VoiceOver turned off)  in FiRe 2, go to Settings (4th of 5 tabs on the
bottom), double tap, then flick right to Transport and double tap, Then,
on the Transport screen, under the Record Button
heading, flick right to Button Controls.  A further flick right will tell
you the switch button status, which is initially set to off.
Double tap to set this to switch button, on, and you will notices that
some of the other options under the Record Button heading, like Slide To
Stop, will disappear.  I also set the switch button for Hold to Record to
switch button, off, so you don't have to keep holding down the Record
Button for the length of your recording session.

The ability to change the way of starting recording in Settings by tapping
instead of sliding the Record button is a recent modification (version
2.6, January 2013). This is basically the reason that Annie and I stopped
playing with this app when this new setup for FiRe 2 appeared in late 2011.

Fanus, I think Carla was mainly thanking me for some old tips on using the
Mail Archive page to search for posted content on this list, more than for
describing how to change the Record  button action in FiRe 2.  Let me tell
you how you can find out the answers to your questions for yourself, by
using the link to the Mail Archive page that appears at the end of every
post:

First, just typing search terms into the text box on that page and pressing
enter will give you several good results, shown as a list of links to posts
by subject line, with a brief section of matching text context, along with a
date and the name of the poster. This is like being able to do a Google
search on this mailing list's contents, But you can also filter the results
according to the poster, date range, and subject, and you can use wild cards
like the asterisk character in your search terms, if you're not sure of the
spelling.  So, for example, since Neal Ewers started the discussions on FiRe
2, a good way to search for content on FiRe 2 would be to type into the
search text box:
from:Neal FiRe
and then press enter.  The from: filter term ends in a colon, and whether
I leave a space after the colon before typing a name is optional.  The
arguments are not case sensitive. However, the name I type in must match a
word that shows up in the From: field of his posts. It can be either a
first or last name, or it can even be more than one word if I enclose his
full name in quotation marks, but that's generally not necessary.This search
will give me every post that Neal wrote which contains the word, FiRe
somewhere in the post, and I'll be told (at present) that there are 13
matches.

The results are listed in order of relevance to your search term, so posts
where FiRe appears several times will be listed first.  But if I want to
catch up with how Neal first introduced the topic, and any questions he may
have posed to the list, I can add the filter terms sort:oldest to have the
oldest posts appear first, or I can use sort:newest to have the most
recent matches listed first.  Again, there is a colon after the word sort,
and I could place these arguments before or after the search terms or from
filter in my search text box. Most often I'll use the command to move back a
page to return to my original search text box arguments and either add
arguments to or modify the search terms I used, depending on how many
results I got, and how these turned out.  So my search terms could be:
from:Neal FiRe sort:oldest
And when I press the return key, I find that his first post on this subject
is Questions about Fire 2 Field Recorder, and that short synopsis shows
he's asking how to change action of the Record
button. Now if I activate the link to that post in the list of results, I
can read his full post.

The app is FiRe 2 - Field Recorder ($5.99) by Audiofile Engineering:

The name comes from the two initial letters of the words, Field
Recorder, since the original  FiRe app (spelled capital F, small
letter i, capital R, small letter e) was the first professional
grade recorder for the iPhone for recording gigs in the field.

The editing functions and additional customization for sampling rates
were added in version two of the app, which I haven't tried to use yet
with VoiceOver. They also allowed you to record mono tracks, and
provided various equalizer settings to boost male or female voice
recordings, or optimize for specifc settings, like lecture recordings
or concerts. The sort of features that were accessible in version 1 of
FiRe that you didn't find in other such apps were precise marker
placement and navigation by these markers within tracks.

One warning for something not to try with VoiceOver: do not attempt to
get and use the Røde microphone apps, because these will kill
VoiceOver.  In the original release of FiRe, there was a separate,
free version of the FiRe app that was released for the Blue Microphone
product called Blue FiRe.  Blue FiRe and the first version of FiRe are
long since gone from the app store, but the Blue FiRe app was a useful
free version of FiRe to learn on.  It didn't have all the
accessibility features of FiRe for marker placement, but it had an
introductory recording explaining how the app was used, and included a
lot of the basic recording features of FiRe.  If you had an iPhone 3GS
or early generation iPod Touch, you could use it to record.

While I was reading about Audiofile Engineering's recent iPhone
microphone support, I came across references to the Røde iXY
microphone for the iPhone 4S and older iPad models.  This is billed as
a 24-bit/96kHz-capable recording device that demoed at the Consumer
Electronic Show and started shipping last month.  It also was supposed
to have a special version of the FiRe 2 app to use for recording (same
price of $5.99 for the app), and a free recording app named RØDE Rec
LE, both by RØDE Microphones.  I'll just say that if you load the
RØDE Rec LE app and launch it, your VoiceOver volume will get set to
0 with no way of getting the volume back unless you can kill the app,
or reset your iPhone. You can kill the app in the app switcher if you
perform all the VoiceOver gestures without sound feedback, and VO will
come back. Or if you have the regular FiRe 2 app in your app switcher
and can switch to that, you can also get sound back. Just don't even
bother to try the RØDE Microphones apps if you use VoiceOver without
vision.  They won't be of any use.

Question about voice dream and bookshare.

I was wondering, for those of you that use the app voice dream, and you 
download books from bookshare, and have to read the books, I have 2 
questions.
1.  How do you get the synopsis of a book from the app before downloading 
the book?

2.  Once you have downloaded the book, how do you begin reading the book?

scanner radio, and the developer is Christopher Coudriet.

It works well with voice over.

not if you are use to a top of the line scanner, like an Icom IC-R9500 it

the only sometimes disappointing thing, is that some of the feeds are 
rather

Some time ago I installed something called 5-0 Radio and at the time it
worked pretty well, no accessibility glitches to speak of. I have the free
version. There is a paid version which probably costs a couple of bucks,
maybe more, but I don't know what you get for  your purchase.

recording in stereo.

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good pair of stereo mikes that I can 
use for recording on the iPhone?
Also, when you have those types of mikes, are there some that can just be 
put in to your ears, or do you have to have different setups for each one.

SpeedDots, which really helps in step 3.

  There are five buttons at the bottom of the screen in the iPhone dock 
positions.  I didn't label the fourth and fith buttons, but the first three 
buttons on the bottom of the screen going from left to right are: Categories, 
Channels, Favorites for either channels or shows; and I believe the fourth one 
is On Demand.
   
  The first button I labeled Catigories.  If you select this button, you have 
to flick through the catigories and double tap the one you want.

  The second button I labeled All Channels.  If you select this button, you can 
flick through the headings and then flick right or left through the channels
  under whatever heading you want.  

  The Third button I labeled favorites.  After choosing the channel you want 
you can use the action button and add the channel or show to the favorites. 
  Then use the favorites button to go through the favorit channels or shows.  
I've added some channels and tried it and had success.

   
  Here goes what you need to do with the iPhone.  This works hit-and-miss, in 
that, it might take you a few tries to get it.  First, the method, then a couple
  caveats.
   
  1.  Open Sirius Xm Radio.
  2.  Turn Voiceover off by tripple-clicking home, assuming you have that set 
up that way in the settings, accessibility menu for the phone.  (I don't think 
this is necessary any longer, but I still do it out of habit.)

  3.  Double tap the spot where Mail would be in the dock area  or the second 
button from the left if using the Speed Dots screen overlay of the phone.
  4.  Now, you can navigate the different channel categories by heading.  There 
will be pop, rock, Hiphop/RB, Dance/Electronic, Country, Christian, 
Jazz/Blues/Standards,
  Classical, Family/Health, Sports, Sports play-by-play, MLB Play-by-Play, 
Comedy, Howard Stern, Entertainment, News/Public Radio, Politics, Religion, 
More,
  Latin, Latin Sports play-by-play.  In each heading, you can flick right to 
find the channels in that category.

  If there are MLB games or Nfl games, you can get either the home or away 
broadcasts.  As you flick, you will see the team and the score. 
   
  NOTES and CAVEATS:
   
  1.  The channel numbers are not listed.  You will see the song/artist 
currently playing by each channel.  Normally, the on-air channels are listed 
first,
  with the internet-only ones at the end.  Example: in the pop category, there 
is channel 2, channel 3, the decades channels, then there is The Love channel
  just before you get to the Neil Diamond internet-only channel, followed by 
the limited engagement channels.  In the rock heading, they start with Elvis's
  channel 19 and proceed numerically up except that the New Pink Floyd channel 
(43) appears after the Bob Dylan Theme-time Radio internet-only channel.
   
  Note 2:  I haven't been able to figure out, but I think the home broadcast 
appears first for the different MLB games. 
   
  Caveat 1:  A couple times, when I wasn't playing an Xm show live, I couldn't 
get the stupid thing to activate the channel categories.  After I clicked
  the Live button, it worked.  But, that could be purely circumstantial.
   
  Caveat 2:  It is hard to locate the exact spot to double-tap with Voiceover 
off.  If for that reason alone, the SpeedDots screen protector is well worth
  the $7 bucks.  I can activate the category view using the methodology above 
usually on the first try now.
   
  Caveat 3:  Double-tapping the song artist/title in any of the categories when 
you have the channel category view switches to that station.  The display
  continues to show all the other channels, so it is a nice way to be able to 
scan for songs or just to keep up with the artist/title info on your favorite
  channel.
   
  Hope this gives you a headstart.  And, by far, the iPhone is a lot easier and 
more pleasant to use than the Internet Player.

  Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.
