Apple TV

2014-11-14 Thread Debbie Worstman
We are thinking about getting an Apple TV, and getting rid of our Dish. The
only reason to have Dish for us is Nascar. I would like to know if there is
a way to record a race, and then watch it not in real time. Now we record
the race, and fast forward through all the commercials.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Please help No voice over after updating to 8

2014-09-21 Thread Debbie Worstman
Hi I need help. I updated to IOS 8 from iTunes on the computer. All went
smoothly it took just under an hour.

Now to the trouble, I have no voice Over. My husband says it is on, I have
no voice over gestures, I have set the shortcut in accessibility.

Tried pressing home, and power button to reboot the phone. Tried shutting
down the phone and leaving it alone for a half hour.

I do not know what else to try, and I am panicked about now

Please any help would be appreciated!

this in iTunes. I would try a Google search on this topic.

Not as such, that I know of anyway. Why not just use the iPad's built-in
Zoom function? You can scroll the screen, and adjust the magnification
level. Or, enlarge the text font in Pages, or whatever app you are working
in. If there are special considerations I'm not aware of, let me know, but
these seem the easiest options.

RE: An Interesting iPad App

2014-03-19 Thread Debbie Worstman
I have no vision, but once the information was put out there I sent it on to
four of my friends that I thought would benefit from this APP.

I for one encourage you or anyone else to post to the list unless the people
who run this list tell you not to post something, please keep on posting.

Do not concern yourself with those who feel the need to take it on their own to
police what comes on this list.

I don’t post much, but I have learned so very much by what I read here, and
thank all that contribute to this list.

Oh dear!!! I had no idea my post would cause so much distress among the ranks.
I am relatively new and do not post much here so I was not aware of the
unwritten or unspoken code that abounds. My sincere apologies, Marianne. My
intent was simply to share a link to an app I thought might be helpful. I
myself have very poor eyesight (almost blind) but I have an incredibly strong
magnifier (60 pwer) that I use almost constantly. So, apps that can enlarge
text, increase contrast, etc., are of interest to me and I hoped to others here
as well.

I did not mean to offend or upset anyone.

Wil and Christopher, thank you for your posts. Your words made me feel better.
(Smile.)

I will likely not post again. Too much drama here.

changing settings in Gmail from Archives to trash

2014-02-24 Thread Debbie Worstman
Hi, I wanted to help someone change their Gmail settings to trash instead of
archiving them.

I went to her Gmail settings, and then to advanced. I thought there should
be a option to turn off archive settings, and that then it would
automatically show up as trash when you swipe up to delete a message without
going into the message.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Debbie

Thank you for your reply.
Now I have a Read 2 Go question. When you are in a book how do you navigate

I can get to where it says previous page, and next page. I can't figure
out how to get to the next page.
Thank you
If someone can direct me to good documentation for reading with a Braille

Hi Debbie,

You can use Voice Dream with a braille display, but the experience is much
better in Read2Go. Every few lines, you have to switch screens, and when you
do, first the percentage of progress through teh book is displayed. You have
to wait for it to disappear from the braille display. Then you may see a
line or two that you already saw on the previous screen, or a line or two
may be skipped. So it's fine for checking the spelling of a word or
something similar, but it would be annoying for reading for any length of
time.

Best,
Anna

Yes, thank you for referring me to these podcasts. I have used them for

She said that she would be willing to buy a manual or pamphlet on using JAWS
with iTunes.

FS Cast has a very good two-part tutorial done a couple of years ago. Yes,
JAWS has changed and iTunes has, too, but I think it is still worth
listening to just to pick up on the concepts of iTunes. These were the
December 2011 and January 2012 episodes.

using the calendar with mBraille

2013-10-28 Thread Debbie Worstman
Hi I am using the help documentation to create a calendar event with
mBraille below are the steps that I have taken. I would like to know what I
am doing wrong.

I am getting an error message that I do not have a start date.

1 Period cal:

2 open quotation mark title of event, ending quotation mark:

3 Opening quotation mark year, month, day, time, closing quotation mark:

4 No quotes here just a space alert, then numbers for minutes such as 30
with space then write min for the word minute.

I also notice that there are dashes between Year, month, and day.

Any help would be appreciated, Thank you in advance

Debbie

Ok, I will try to explain it better. :) If I hold a finger on a letter in
the keyboard too long, like say the letter, I get that sound and VO says
selected and I don't understand what this is for or what is happening.
However, if I select the letter E, VO announces alternative Characters
available, slide your finger to discover alternative characters, lift to
select a character and if I slide my finger around VO tells me what these
characters are and I have no idea what they are. I am guessing this is some
characters for languages other than English. For every letter on the
keyboard the alternative characters are different unless it's like the
letter R where there does not seem to be an alternative character. This
whole thing baffles me though. :)

Thanks,
Christina

I'd kill for some VO accessible card games. LOL

I've even considered trying to learn to program for IOS, in order to create
my own games, but I honestly don't think I have the skill level for that. I
wondered if it was possible to, for example, have different VO voices read
what was played. So, my default voice reads my cards, plus
buttons/bids/scores and such, while another voice reads what my partner
plays, and 2 other VO voices read what each opponent plays. So, I'm using
the female American English voice as my default, and she reads my cards and
such, while the male American English voice reads what my partner plays.
Then, I could have say the male and female Australian English voices read
for my 2 opponents. Course, you'd have to have the games I mentioned above
that were VO accessible to begin with. LOL

Just my 2 cents, for what they're worth. :-)

doubt many of the targeted audience is going to have the patience
to read such an email let alone follow the tips tucked in it. I
also wonder how much time was spent writing and reading such a

a question you can't or don't want to answer. I find the one liners
 like What does

to be just as annoying as the next guy, but given that Raul, as the

RE: ITunes Questions

2013-03-08 Thread Debbie Worstman
I have a question related to iTunes, and music.

My friend has an iMac computer, she has boot-camped it with Windows 7. She
can access her music on the Mac side, but cannot access the music from the
library in iTunes. She can find the music in the purchased area, and she can
even bring up a song from there and play it, but she cannot make play lists
to transfer to her iPhone.

She is using JAWS 13, and System Access for her screen readers.

How can she be able to access her music from the Windowss side of her
computer?

Thank you in advance for any help you can give with this problem.

Hi Tom,

Control+S is the command to Show Sidebar, you can also go to the View menu
with Alt+V and arrow down to where it says Show Sidebar, then press enter.
If you go to the View menu and it says Hide Sidebar then you already have
the sidebar visible and if you do a Control+S it will hide it, the shortcut
key is a toggle.

It is easiest to use F6 to find the sidebar, once youa re on it, Jaws will

I actually prefer now not to show the sidebar. If I want to change from the
music library to the books library or the apps library I either use the
shortcuts, Control+1 for music, Control+2 for movies, Control+3 for TV
Shows, Control+6 for Books and Control+7 for Apps.

Control+4 and Control+5 don't do anything in my setup and if you, for
example, uncheck Movies in the Preferences, Control+2 will not do anything.

Another way to navigate to those areas is to use Control+Shift+F to jump
into the Search Library edit field, then tab twice and you are on Music if
your music library is what has focus. Press enter or space and a treeview
opens where you can now arrow down to movies, Books, Apps etc.

I never thought of iTunes as all that bad and I like iTunes 11 even better
since it seems to be somewhat faster and more efficient. However, I believe
Jaws 14 definitely will give you the best performance and, if you haven't
done so already, I highly recommend you listen to the December and January
FS Casts Jonathan did. His 2-part series on iTunes 11 with Jaws 14
definitely helps in understanding iTunes and how to make the best of it. You
can find the podcasts on the Freedom Scientific website under FS Casts.

As for your girl-friends iPhone not showing up, I can't explain it, if I
enable the sidebar and connect my iPhone it shows up under Devices as it
always has. If I hide the sidebar which, as I said before, I prefer, I find
the iPhone button as follows:

I press Control+Shift+F to go to the Search Library edit field.

I press F6 once to jump to the first drop-down list of the column browser
which is Genre. Of course that assumes you have the column browser enabled.

I then Shift+Tab twice and I'm on the iPhone button, enter or space will
activate it.

I then have all the usual buttons like Summary, Info, Apps, Tones etc. which
I can check to manage the various sync aspects of iTunes with my iPhone.

The column browser, by the way, can only be enabled if you check the Songs
button, it is greyed out if artists, albums or genres are selected.

Hope this helps,

Sieghard

Hallo Krister,

I don't generally join in these debates about specially generated apps
etc, but in the case of Fleksy, I have been tempted. The simple fact is that
the way Fleksy works, it is equally valuable to sighted typists. For
example, my partner can type about ten times faster using Fleksy as opposed
to the built in keyboard. Plus, many people find their fingers too large to
safely hit the right key. Fleksy makes this unimportant. So, I suppose I am
saying that, for once, the cart has come before the horse and that something
developed with the VIP community in mind, might actually find a much greater
mainstream market.

I think we may well see Fleksy being bought by Apple for inclusion into
its IOS.

Happy tapping, Sandy.

know i'm politically incorrect but i say it anyway, why do i want a special
solution because i'm blind? And before anyone says it, it's not the apps
themselves i'm afraid of, they're there in the app store for grabbing, if
you want 'em get 'em, what i'm afraid of is the demand it brings. When we
get enough special solutions to do all kinds of things for us, we won't ever
want to investigate what's already in the store, because it doesn't do what
the blind require, and all of a sudden we're back in the hands of Freedom

programmed solutions for a humongous price, and that's what i wanted to
avoid when i first got the IPhone.

Debbie, thanks for having the guts to admit this; I feel the same as you.
I have come to the conclusion that I simply have not practiced typing enough
on the iPhone. With BT keyboards and Siri it's easy to avoid typing on the
phone. Ive gotten somewhat better but I', still not a proficient typist on
the phone. I think that as I force myself to practice more on the phone my
skills on Fleksy will improve.

Amy,

In my opinion, what you are providing to the list is a service and not
promoting a product. This is very different from announcing for sale a
phone or keyboard which I have seen here. I doubt very much that moderators
would prevent you from offering a service to the list members. I have to
admit that I did last week purchase your screen saver but not because it was
advertised by you but because list members were discussing its potential and
I didn't know about it. So, what I received here was not a sale offer but a
service which is why the list is here and why I wade through hundreds of one
word messages which shouldn't exist just to find that little gold nugget.

When you have a family of 4 , you always get some griping so, when you have
a family of 1,300, you are bound to get a lot more.

It's an announcement. Simple as that. It is not a products for sale or
classified ad.
If list moderators prefer that I do not do this, please afford me
professional courtesy and contact me off list.
If that does happen, then by all means, I will not post such announcements
in the future.
I have purposefully made it a point *not* to clutter the list with traffic
that involves marketing/sales of any kind.
I am posting from my personal account, yes, at times making announcements
for my company, but I am not here to market products; which is why I also
participate on the list in ways that have absolutely nothing to do with the
products that we sell.
If someone happens to ask a question on list about our products, I am not
going to not answer them or provide them support if needed; though I will
ask that in future, in light of this statement, that unless you feel that
your question would be of benefit to list members on the whole, that you
email me off list, or via our web page by using the contact us, form.
Griping and complaining adds clutter to a list that already has heavy
traffic, and I do not want my company or similar postings to create more
such traffic.

I don't think this is a buy/sell list, and I think mentioning coupons like
this that everyone on the list can take advantage of isn't any different
than people pointing out when accessible apps become free in the App Store
or go on sale. In my mind, this is a lot different than someone mentioning
they have an iPhone 4 or a Verbatum keyboard for sale, which I wouldn't want
to see on the list, but that's obviously up to the moderators.

RE: navigon need help/very frustrated

2012-05-02 Thread Debbie Worstman
I am with Tom on this.
Make sure that you choose the menu button to go back to the main menu before
you try and create a new rout.
This button is on the top left of the screen typically where the back button
is.
I also noticed that when you start your rout that you have to tap the start
navigation on two screens before Navagon starts tracking your rout.

Is your address set as the home location?
What locations are you trying to input? Address or points of interest?
We have navigon and it's a wonderful app. Give us some more info please.

so we just spent a good while playing with navigon which we just baught.
End result, when it first comes up it automatically starts giving directions
for a route we dont want it to. it refuses to take us home when we hit the
take me home button. and oddly enough it sits there and claims that it
doesn't recognize destinations we give it.

We've tried giving it multiple routes to go to, but there again, it wont
give us directions to anything accept the first place we tested going to.

We could really use any tips on using navigon that anyone can
providewhere's the compus this thing is supposed to have? I'm not seeing
anything like that.

So far we're very displeased with it. Ideally if we can't get it working, we
want our money back. does anyone know anything about returning apps that are
useless?
