iPhone 8 plus IOS 12.1 Bug: while going through the call history, or call logs Voiceover will read something like the example below. Amanda, outgoing, user_label_primary, then the rest of the information. Reproducing the bug: simply go in to the phone app and view the call logs or call history. A question about apple music?
I love apple music, but I have a burning question!!! They used to have a fitness top-chart, but they removed it months ago!!! That was my go-to for my workout music. Where can I find new sources of workout music in apple music? I loved that top chart!!! I found Army cadences and a bunch of other rather cool stuff on it! Please tell me they just hid that chart somewhere? It sure helped me discover new music to exercise to! But, since I believe the chart no longer exists...any suggestions please? Big Issue with MyVerizon app
I was using the myVerizon app to pay my bill earlier today, only to discover that VO wasn't reading the "payment method" portion of the payment screen. It says... "payment method," then you select a saved payment method, or add a new one. Voiceover isn't reading the saved payment methods at all, causing me to pay with the wrong method...thank god I cancelled the payment and avoided an overdraft!!! If you tap on a payment method (which only reads as "clicks" on the screen) you hear the word, "selected" but no other information. DirecTV now Iphone app -- how to work with the guide
OK, the only reason I even have this app is the 35.00 promo...which you have for life! If you cancel you can't get the promo back, and that sucks. I'm not much of a TV watcher, but enough about me, lets get to the good stuff. When you first open the app, you are presented with a list of seasons and episode titles and "play" buttons that are dimmed out. Getting the titles of the shows through flicking, even in the guide is for now, a pain in the rear. The networks tab also appears to be entirely inaccessible. Press the guide button...you'll see two sections (exploring by touch.) The left bottom half of the screen shows you a list of networks. On the right bottom half of the screen you see the corresponding show titles and episode titles. The problem is...you only get three networks on the bottom left at a time. you'll see the initial 3 networks and the shows on the right. If your looking at the bottom right, you can't do the 3-fingler swipe up gesture--it won't scroll for you. The trick is to go back to the left side of networks then do your swipe up to se more shows. So its left for networks, right for shows...then back left, and swipe up to reveal more titles. Its confusing and its an absolutely crappy crappy crappy work-around, but for those who got the good promo, this should work for you. question about earbuds
Earlier, I was listening to some awesome EDM (techno) on Sirius xm radio! The Electric Daisy Carnival is live for two more nights from Vegas, but I digress. Is there a way to insert the apple earbuds in my head...so they stay in my head? My new earpods broke, but luckily I found two spair older, first generation sets. Is there a little science to putting them in your ears just the right way? I'll also ask the same question about the new earpods for newbies of iPhones...any tips? VZW website inaccessible?
This is slightly off-topic, but has anyone seen the sign-in screen to vzw lately? It appears to be inaccessible. It shows a username field, but the password field is somehow hidden from view. I used both IE and firefox and saw the exact same thing. Simply try to sign-in to verizon wireless to see what I'm talking about! Can anyone tell me where the password field is? Anywork-arounds for the New York times app?
Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone had any work-arounds to make the iPhone edition of the NY times app accessible? Its a good magazine which I enjoy reading...but with only one downfall. I call this, the chasing technology concept. The iPhone edition doesn't allow for the browsing of articles very well. The information is limited or voiceover just gives you a click, and no information at all once your in a section. Here's why i ask if you guys have figured a work-around I haven't spotted yet...their iPad appp works splendidly. If anyone can help, that'll be just great...thanks to anyone who looks into this! AE app is now accessible somewhat
The main functions of the AE app is fully accessible. Videos can be watched with relative ease...I've had no problems with that experience. But, their dreaded sign-in screen was a total bear, before i found this work-around. Here goes...we're dealing with a hidden screen. When selecting the cable provider on that first sign-in screen, you find a hidden clicky button. Although it is a button, VO doesn't tell you this. The first clicky button is brightHouse cable. If you have comcast or DirecTV, there's a bit more work involved, but its now doable. Scroll up until you here something like rows 3 to 8 of 8. You have to uncover the hidden screen first...but you won't see the other options, not yet. To make these hidden buttons appear, press the home button, then enter the app switcher and re-enter the app, don't close it! You'll then see two more clicky buttons. The first is comcast Xfinity, and the second is DirecTV. I hope this helps someone...I was rather bored so...yeah. Needing some help with Hotel Apps
Hello everyone! I need some help with a search that seems simple, but seems to be impossible at the same time in most hotel apps. It appears, when looking at hotels with available rooms, a search for distance from a certain location is iffy at best, although this should be quite an easy search filter. For instance, hotels close to DFW airport, filtered by distance. Here's what I've observed so far. With Kyack, its darn good for flights, but lousy on hotels if distance is important. You'll get a distance alright...from the city center, not from DFW airport, although that's what you put in for booking. Other apps, are sadly broken in some way. Hotels.com has a pesky broken calendar for example. The good apps are with the hotels directly, but I'm looking for a good app like Kyak which shows anything available based on distance from an airport, Etc. Any help from anyone would be greatfully accepted! Oh, one more pesky app...Trivago. Although easily accessible, it showed hotels that were 5 miles away when I had other apps open including safari which showed closer properties. Icloud question: is this possible and how?
I'm wondering if I can do this. I'm looking to restore my iPad fresh. I'm updating the IOS and all that...but for now, my apps are completely a disorganized mess. Is there a way to grab my contacts Etc. from an iCloud backup, and not the apps? I'm gonna do the tedious chore of downloading my apps a few at a time, and place them in folders. Looking for a solution: blindy.tv and multiple-stream playlists
Sometimes I enjoy the site Blindy.tv...welll, not their channels directly. I download their AudioTV playlist that has about 20 or so channels. FOr example, I'm listening to Myth Busters radio, a station that someone put up, and is on the AudioTV playlist downloaded from blindy.tv. I tried clicking on the playlist through safari. It plays the first stream of the playlist, but no others. I wonder would dropbox would work as a work-around? For anyone who'd like to experiment, the uRL is below. A journey through history
Hello iPhoners! I was pretty bored today, waiting to watch the olympics on tv, and fining nothing but cartoons and cooking hsows, when i decided to clean out my C-drive. I found three very old podcasts about the iPhone! They were done through the Maccessibility/screenless switchers group. The podcasts introduced the brand new, revolutionary, iPhone 3gs! On my PC their dated 06/28/2009. I wonder if the AppleVis community would be interested in these podcasts. Its a great look back at iPhone history, back when everything was new and apps were mostly uncharted territory for us blind folks...right around the time this very listed was created! If anyone wants them, drop me a line, or tel me how to submit them to applevis. Need a good solution..What's on tv?
I love my iPad, and I loved the iPhone when i had one. It does nearly anything possible these days...but there's one big problem i seem to have. When it comes to finding out what's on the tv, it appears difficult to find an ansewr. Today, the big tv events are the olympics. Hey Siri, what olympics are on tv today? 'Sorry, I can't find that. Shouldn't this be a simple question for siri? Now, for the cobbled-together, jery rigged solutions I've found. The USA today has today's olympics tv schedule, but nothing elseno NBA, colleger basketball or Hockey schedules. My local paper does have the daily sports on tv, but not worth the 10.00 i pay for the paper...USA today provides me the quick-and-dirty version of the top news I usually read. And, the TV guide app...well...let's go to the bottom and click on sports for the sports listings...NO sports listings can be found, please check back later...there has got to be a better solution than this. Any suggestions are welcomed. What apps do you use to find out what the heck is on tv? Perhap;ps there's a good app out there! one quite annnoying bug in mail
I have a seriously annoying iPhone bug with IOS 7. GMail used to be cool, you could select the top 50 or top 100 this makes it a tad mor easier to scroll through them. Does anyone have a solution to simply get the 50 messages and not the 82,000 other messages I haven't read yet? NO, that is not a typo! ANy help is appreciated...I need my email back! Hello to everyone! First, I'd like th thank everyone on this awesome list who answer my questions...you guys are great! I found a new game I'm absolutely addicted to, it's called iAssociate 2. Its one of the best word association games out there and its one heck of a challenge! For those of you who play it, what is the best way to keep track of a word chain, or one single thread of words? I find myself getting lost at times when it comes to what is supposed to associate with what, and lose track of what I'm doing. i've found myself using hints for dumb words I should've gotten easily. Recommendation for speakers for the iPad
I'm just wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for good iPad speakers? I don't care if their wired or wireless, I'm just looking for somethin with good volume for when i'm listening to SiriusXM. Although the iPad is portable, it usually lays on my desk as I do other tasks. Any help is appriciated! broken date/calendar in some apps
Hello all. I'm curious to know if anyone has a trick for a broken calendar. In both the delta and hilton apps, I see the month, but no days in that month, just a couple of buttons. Tapping on the buttons brings me a month forward or back, and clicking on the month doesn't make the days appear. Of course you gotta pick check in/out dates, or flight dates, so any solution is welcomed. I know other travel apps exist, Kyak, priceline, travelocity and others, but most of the time you can find a better deal through booking with the hotel/airline directly. Plus, booking through a third party provider most of the time restricts the frequent flyer miles, or hotel nights you can earn. Sometimes you get no miles/nights, because the hotel is looking for direct revenue, not waiting for travelocity or kyak's check. Any solutions are welcomeand enjoy my little travel lesson! Quick kindle question
I tried googling this for a good 30 minutes, and found outdated info (2011.) My question is this...is it possible to sync magazines and newspapers across iPad and the iPhone? Example, if i didn't have my iPad with me, could i download the magazine from the cloud? According to what I found, its forbidden, but that info was 3 years old! New iPad mini, and loving it!
Hey everyone...I just got a new iPad mini! Its fun to type on, IOS 7.0 works a great deal of the time, so do about 90 percent of my apps. I'm still learning to type on it. I have one question about the notification center. How do you disable having the notifications come up in your lock screen? I thought IOS 6 fixed this...I'd be reading a book, or Kindle and the notification totally interrupts my flow! Secondly, how do i get rid of push notifications altogether? I have a couple of bloomberg apps which love to duplicate! Aside from those minor annoyances, which are IOS 7 and not iPad, or perhaps even user idiocy, the iPad was one awesome purchase. A few knit-picky things
Hello, I'm gonna get a new 5s next week, and i have a couple small questions. I answered most of the larger ones myself through reading documentation Etc. First is the VO sounds..how would i disable those for certain things, like reading articles in magazines, or books on the Kindle app, Etc.? My final question is this...I heard that when your reading using the Kindle app, it disregards the default screen brightness/screen curtain options, is this true? If I' reading in bed, and the girlfriends asleep, the screen just might disturb her...not a good thing! Aside from this knit-picky stuff, from what i've read so far, I'll enjoy a ton that IOS 7 has to offer. ITunes radio looks quite promising and fun! setting: ewntering iphone password to download apps?
I just restored my phone, and now I'm required to enter my password every time I download an app? I may be wrong about this, but a friend told me one time about some setting that allows things to be downloaded for a certain time before having to re-enter your password. Is there such a setting? A somewhat serious iPhone bug...any solutions?
I was on the american airlines app, but i've seen this behavior across a few websites and apps. The bug relates to the picker item, to select a credit card type, or a state, Etc. In previous IOS versions, you could go through the items, looking at the options, then only if you double tap on the item, the selection is made. In this most recent version, you don't seem to have an opportunity to look at the options... you flick up or down, and it make that selection, and kicks you out of the picker...has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have a solution? clarification on picker item bug
I figured an example would help make the exact bug more clear. IN the american airlines app, and a few other websites is where this bug occurs. In an app like calendar, the picker behaves just fine...here's the example of the bug. I'm booking a flight...the form field is credit card type. So, I go ahead and activate the picker...swipe up or down to go through the selections...master card, visa, american express, discover. The second I swipe up or down just once, it kicks me out of the picker and selects that first choice automaticly. I don't want that to happen, I want to swipe down till i see visa, then click done. Of course I can reactivate the picker, swipe down again to see the next selection, but that gets annoying quick...has anyone else seen this bug? Folders clarification
Hello, thanks for the tips! Next time, I'll move the entire folder to the right/left of the app, then move the app into the folder, then move the folder back where I want it. Yes, its an extra step, but moving an app to a folder in the first or last position in a row can be darn difficult! Yes, my spacial concepts are pretty good...but not my typing (go figure.) To clarify, iPhone 4S and lower, folders can contain a maximum of 12 apps, while on the iPhone 5, with its slightly longer screen, folders can hold 16 apps. For those who don't own a 5 yet, you get an extra row of apps, not an extra column. Also to note, I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this or not, but while typing, the keyboard keys are just that slightest bit tinier? Or maybe its just me being knit-picky again...I wonder? Moving apps into folders?
First, I must thank the many people who responded to my earlier questions! I download MiniKeePass, and find it useful! I do have one question about placing apps in folders. I do understand the concept of how to move apps, and how to move apps into folders! But, is there some trick to getting an app into a folder? I face the most difficulty when the folder sits on row 2, column 4, and the app simply refuses to land on the folder. Does the folder sit slightly up/down/left/right of the direct row/column? I'm sort of confused as to where folders sit in relation to the screen. The movements are so very slight...please help? A few questions in different areas
Since i don't wanna bombard the group with emails, i'll ask these questions all at once. First what's a good sports app for the iPhone 5? I love sportacular, its great for scores, but not for the upcoming sport schedule...huh? Is there a secondary app you guys use for sports? Second question, I'm experiencing an odd bug where every 24 hours, my Verizon LTE tends to just lock up on me, as if I'm throddled...no, I'm not being throddled, a simple restart solves this iissue, but is anyone else experiencing it? Should i restore the phone to solve this issue for good? And the third and final question...anyone know where to find good streaming tv? Unfortunately I don't have cable, although I do have SXM. I get netflics and all that...so far so good...but I do miss my local news. When I did have cable, I watched either WEST tv, or WKMG, or WFTV for my local news. Do the Orlando florida folks know if theres a good tv station news app, or if the station's stream can be picked up on iPhones? If not, is there any generally good apps out there? Good app for storing vital information?
One more question I forgot to add, 'cause I'm an idiot! (grin.) What is a darn good secure app for storing vital information, IE, credit card numbers and the 800 numbers you call in case there's a problem or they get stolen or some unfortunate calamity? Let's hope none of that happens, but I've been in a hotel, prepared to buy an airline ticket...erm, what's that card number again? darn! I can't remember it! What's a good app for stuff like that? Oh, and I bring up the whole security issue, so no one has your credit card numbers, on top of like, getting your phone hacked or something! best newspaper reading app?
I got a question about newspaper apps! Yes, I'm aware there's like 257 different news reading apps out there, and RSS readers, blog readers and the like. My question deals with apps where I can read my local newspaper and/or national newspapers such as USA today, or the Walstreet Journal. I'm looking for an app in where I can get the most out of the paper, not just some clipped articles from sections someone decides to put on a website or NFB newsline. Yes, I appreciate those services exist for those of us who are blind and want access to a newspaper, but I've found that said access is quite limited. For instance, the Orlando sentinel, I'm lucky if I get access to one tenth of the paper in its entirety. hopefully with the new wave of technology, it being 2013 and all, forward strides have been made to expand news access. Yes, the Orlando Sentinel does have an app, unfortunately when last I tried to use it, it was found to be rather inaccessible for VO. Is earl a good app for good newspaper reading? Hey viphone list! Just wondering what the best app for good airfares would be? I checked applevis..travelocity isn't to bo accessible, FairCompare is oK (the alert function works but its calendar is inaccessible?) zello tips (have i been spoiled by google?)
Last night, I downloaded the zello app! Its quite a nice app. I found a couple iPhone channels and talked for a while...but, there's one thing that is awesomely confusing! OK, I truly hate to gripe...but i believe this is past the point of constructive criticism...or has google just spoiled me? First off, someone mentioned a channel called texas school for the blind students. OK, let's try to find it! A keyword search for texas school blind students pulled up nothing? Although the website seems to be more forgiving as to keywords, its still rather terible. Yeah, I can search for keyword blind and see a ton of results...but with no sort features...sort by highest active users? I also saw channel categories within the app, but no reference to them on the zello channels website...no category browsing? seriously? Please, fellow viPhoners tell me i'm missing something...because right now, i'm seeing this search functioning and just shaking my head at it. A few side notes: I usually don't mind trying several different methods to make something work, or finding work-arounds for inaccessible websites...stuff like that. ITs usually pretty fun to do. I'm not the usual average tech person who gets stuck and calls support when one small thing is wrong..so i've tried many solutions to no avail...do you guys have any suggestions at all for improving the zello search experience? App questions (saddened by some iPhone apps)
I have a few questions, and some people might think i'm nuts, but please try to follow my point! I'm looking for an app that tells me what's near me in a category such as hotels, restaurants, Etc. I'm looking for an impartial app, like around me used to be. Please note: around me is no longer this good! I'll base it on the old around me, hopefully you guys know of a similar app. A year ago, if I wanted to know what hotels were close to me, I used to use the around me app. It was completely impartial to hotels.com, travelocity, Kyak, Etc. It just gave me what was close, nothing else! i got the hotels around me, based solely on distance, and nothing else! The new around me no loger does this and deliberately skips hotels i know darn well are close, because its partnered with hotels.com now. How about restaurants? I know of a good restaurant called Clean street marina.' (not the actual name, since i don't wanna give away right where i live!) Its a good fish/seafood place, some of the fish came right from my local lake! What if I'm in dallas and want to find a locally owned truly texas barbecue place (not a chain?) What about a small locally owned motel/hotel that's distinctly dallas? Is there new apps that are good at that stuff? Please reply. If you guys just can't follow my point I'll put it a different way...the sighted person who looks at the signs of businesses around him/her, seeing what the area is like. Iphone 5 questions
Hello to the awesome iPhone group! i have some iPhone 5 questions I hope some people can answer. Tomorrow the iPhone is coming to my house...is there a way to activate VO out of the box at all? These other questions have to do with Verizon. I've had ATT before, but am hoping verizon performs better/faster. Has anyone seen any glaring differences between att and verizon coverage and performance? I heard sometimes you get the cutting in/out static at times, and sometimes garbled speech on one end of the call or another. Also, is verizon's internet performance better than sprints? I had sprint in Daytona florida and it had some of the worst 3g speeds I've ever seen! Try as slow as 12 KB/s and sometimes as fast as 50 kb/sno, that's not a joke. And, I'm not sure how many people could answer this one...but is Verizon as flexible as att when it comes to traveling in the US? With att the iPhone worked pretty much everywhere I traveled. At times att 3g was slow but not too many instances of that happening. My final question deals with battery life. Is battery life comparable between the 4S and the 5? iPhone 5 question: description?
I just wanna know what the iPhone 5 looks like and all that good stuff. Can someone who has one please describe it? I know the headphone jack is at the bottom, and its thinner, but just how thin? Is the new aluminum design any good? I thought soda cans were made of aluminum, so does it make the iPhone 5 feel plastiky? Off topic! brand new to the mac and vo...tutorials for dummies?
I am interested in getting a mac sometime in the future...but i've never touched a mac before. I've never seen one, and never messsed with vo! So, are there tutorials/podcasts or anything for the newbie? Is vo extremely different from jaws? Is the mac's operating system strikingly different than windows? Hello everyone. About the flight app, I'd recommend iFlyPro. It contains a ton of airport data and flight status can be retrieved. You don't need the internet to access airport data, locations of shops Etc. but you do for flight status.
