Subject: announce time every 15 minutes??

Hi, I had an app called Timely for a few years. The App is no longer
available. Does anyone have an App that will announce the time every 15
minutes with various voices available? I liked Timely as one of the child
voices sounded just like my granddaughter. Any suggestions? Thank you. Andy

Hi to all, long time nohear!

I wonder does anyone from here uses RIVO, especially new RIVO 2 version
and what are the experiences. This gadget costs quite a few hundreeds
and I'd like to hear some opinions from people who tried it.

Also, if someone knows where to get new or second hand RIVO 1 I'd be
grateful for information sharing.

Thanks and take care!

Subject: News Plus Service and News App as it has been

I just called the Apple Disability Support number, 877.204.3930, as Richard
Turner suggested because reading news articles has been a difficulty for quite
some time now, as everyone has indicated since the IOS 12. I placed my comments
with the support person who answered and expressed a couple of other concerns I
am feeling about iPhone moving forward for us. You all may already have this
information, but I was told that going to >apple.com/feedback and submitting
comments or ideas we might have is helpful to the team looking into these
issues. He seemed to feel that many improvements and ideas had come from that
source, and it probably saves the tech support team from having to listen to
little old ladies and their gripes and concerns about the equipment and
software.

Just thought I would share that in case anyone does not have that information.
I told him that I was truly not sure what I was going to do moving forward. I
have the SE. He could not tell me for sure whether that would still be
supported in IOS 13 or not, telling me they never know these things either
until they happen. I also told him I would like to see an SE 2 with some
aspects of updated technology as I was really not interested much in carrying
something larger or more bulky. Who knows what they do with all of that, but I
did express my feelings. The representative was personable, professional and
receptive to hearing. It’s also a quiet environment to call which is a good
thing as well. I have terrible difficulties calling technical support which is
noisy in the background, trying to listen to the tech and my device, making the
entire experience beyond stressful.

Anyway, just sharing and hope it helps.

Thanks.

So the NFL app for Apple TV no longer works with VoiceOver. Hopefully this will

You might want to check out the recently released article by Jamie Paul’s in

not smart phones and are relatively inexpensive that talk. This may be helpful.

interesting bug with VoiceOver in Voice Dream Reader

2017-01-02 Thread Juliette Swiler
This is for those who are regular Voice Dream Reader users. I don’t know
whether this is a bug or not, but I am noticing when I am reading my daily
newspaper, and don’t want to read from cover to cover, and choose another
article to skip to, when I double tap, the TTS voice begins to read the article
I have selected. But when I press pause to have VoiceOver read the text
instead, or use the braille display, VoiceOver reads the article that I just
came from. The only work around I see is to hit the home button, and relaunch
voice dream reader from the app switcher. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

don't understand Feeln subscription process

2016-11-06 Thread Juliette Swiler
Hello all,

I am confused about the subscription process for Feeln. It now appears I have
two subscriptions for Feeln. I subscribed through iTunes, but it would not let
me change my email address to match my iTunes subscription. How do I resolve
this? Don’t need two subscriptions. I subscribed through iTunes originally on
my Apple TV. But every time I tried to log in, it said user name and password
didn’t match. Might have to contact customer service.

using headphones with iPhone 6s since iOS 10 upgrade

2016-09-19 Thread Juliette Swiler
Hello,

I wondered if since upgrading to iOS 10 if anyone has noticed a problem when
wearing headphones. The audio comes out clear as could be from music or
whatever I am listening to, but VoiceOver seems to only come out of one ear. I
am using an iPhone 6s with the latest iOS 10. I wonder if anyone has a fix for
this?

Thanks.

using iBooks with braille display in iOS 10

2016-09-14 Thread Juliette Swiler
I was wondering if anyone had used iBooks with a braille display. I have US
English selected, and I am having problems with the spacing being funny between
words looking different. Also, when I turn pages, the display doesn’t land on
the first line of the next page. It lands a couple of lines over. And when I
select an article from the table of contents, or chapter, it seems to get stuck
on the area where the text of the page is, and I can’t pan the display backward
or forward. This is the only reading app I am seeing these problems. Instead of
English US braille, it looks like I am getting unified English. Strange. And I
was one of those unlucky ones who had my iPhone broken when attempting to
update it yesterday. Thank God for iTunes and the restore feature. Also, did
they really have to make a third page to add a search field? Can’t we just open
up spotlight search if we want?

Re: Sirius-XM radio app

2016-03-08 Thread Juliette Swiler
Speaking of Sirius XM, I know at one time I found an audio captcha on their
site to help to log in. But the last couple of times I tried logging on, there
was no audio captcha to be found. I wish they would have left things well
enough alone. Now I can’t log in to make changes to my account unless I have
sighted help or call them. At least the online player for listening to on
demand content is now accessible with VoiceOver on the Mac. That is one of my
favorite aspects of the service. So if I miss a show, I can catch it later.

Re: New Apple remote

2015-11-04 Thread Juliette Swiler
I would suggest listening to David Woodbridge’s demonstration podcast. He
describes the physical layout of the remote in detail. The long button is a
volume control, and with the lightning port facing towards you, you have the
touchpad at the top, then a row of three buttons, the top being menu, the
middle is the Siri button, and then the bottom is play/pause. The button right
above the volume control is the home button which takes you directly back to
the home screen.

Sirius XM app

2015-05-22 Thread Juliette Swiler
So I finally thought I was really getting used to the new SiriusXM app with
VoiceOver. However, within the past few days, when I tap channels, and try to
flick left and right through the categories, VoiceOver loses focus. Also, if I
click the button next to a channel, to ad it to favorites, the app crashes. Any
thoughts or workarounds? Thanks.

NFL Mobile

2015-05-19 Thread Juliette Swiler
OK NFL fans, I am so excited about this. The latest NFL mobile update came out,
and every one of us who are blind or visually impaired should be jumping up and
down. For once, the app is more than just doable when it comes to VoiceOver
accessibility. I don’t know whether they have a new developer, but we should
all write to them and say, don’t change anything with the new format. They need
to know that this is important to those of us who do not have sight, and I am
sure this is the last thing on their priority list, but they need to be made
aware that this is a major step forward. Now if we could just get the USA Today
app working again with Voiceover. But those developers don’t seem very
responsive. I am even more looking forward to football this upcoming season
than I usually am because of this development now. Enjoy.

Re: Problem Running Braille Display with iOS 8.2

2015-04-07 Thread Juliette Swiler
I have had a Humanware display for quite some time, and just recently it has
been having a lot of trouble maintaining a good bluetooth connection. Also,
when I try to read certain publications through NFB Newsline app in particular,
sometimes the panning to the next line takes so long, that it isn’t worth
continuing to read. I have been reporting this to NFB and they say it is on
Apple’s end. However, with each update to iOS, the problem continues. Again, as
usual, the blame game between companies.

going to test with my wife’f focus 40. If all is well then I’ll reach out to
the Brailliant Project manager. If that doesn’t work I’ll reach out to the

Otherwise, the Blindness community may have false advertising claims against

An interesting response. My understanding is Apple posts its braille display
driver requirements. It also includes standard braille display drivers in the
 VO code.

Considering how HumanWare has had problems in the past with buggy code and
incompatible driver stack issues, I again will place the responsibility in
 their court on this one.

 Hi Scott,

If you turn on automatic braille translation, braille input will be just
like before. Otherwise, press Space or Space with dots 4-5 to make the
