Re: really struggling with the home button on the 10 r

2018-12-15 Thread regina alvarado

There is really a big learning curve to no home button! Hang in there. Many
times I wanted to trade my X. Practice, practice and more practice. Two things
to remember:

1. Go to very bottom of the screen to find the haptic, and I mean the very
bottom. Now, there are three different pressures for your finger. The lightest
touch is where you get haptics to open. The second touch is 3D touch which is a
little harder. Of course using that touch you need to focus on an icon like
messages before you can use it. So you run your finger lightly along the bottom
until you feel a jump or hear it or both. I had to turn my finger 90 degrees to
the screen to find. When you get the feedback you gently and lightly push up
with your finger until you feel the jump again or hear it or both. That opens
the screen. From the top you can do the same thing and get notifications and
one more jump gives control center. Warning: I may have this backward, but the
motion is same. Now too automatic until I get the wrong one! LOL. It is just
such a light touch. After a while your muscle memory will remember.

2. Now when you have the motion down, remember it shortens your screen when
doing something on the phone. Many times I have closed off apps or gone back to
home by getting down too far on the screen. No problem, but takes practice
also. Other frustration for me was face ID. Again, practice is what is needed.
I had to learn what level to hold my phone for it to recognize. I have never
seen a camera so looking at it is foreign. I always listened to voices when I
was in a pic. Apple has made it easier for us to not need attention to the
screen, but it still is not an easy thing to get used to, at least for me. Hope
this helps in some small way.

Reggie and Lex
God said, "I need somebody strong enough to pull sleds and find bombs, yet
gentle enough to love babies and lead the blind. Somebody who will spend all
day on a couch with a resting head and supportive eyes to lift the spirits of a
broken heart." So God made a dog.

RE: really struggling with the home button on the 10 r

2018-12-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jed,

This may be one of those situations where a written explanation might do little
good but somebody looking at what you do as you are doing it could make all the
difference.
Don't you have an Apple Store nearby where you could make an appointment and
get a genious, preferably one who knows Voiceover, show/teach you how this is
done?
Barring that how about another sighted person who has an iPhone X model as well
and who could observe what you do and then try and show you?
I strongly suggest you find somebody who can coach you with this because while
you could get an iPhone 8 (if you are still in the time when you can return
your XR, this is only a temporary solution since I don't see the home button
coming back.

Regards,
Sieghard

The easiest way to deal with face ID is to place the middle of your phone up to
your nose then pull away.

For those who have difficulties with home botton it could be because the
mouvement has _ need to be begin out side of the screen. So, if you put your
finger close to the charging cable and swip up, you should be able. Maybe
you'll have to practice without your case a little bit.
If you are not able, another way is to add the botton assistive touch. You will
be able to do things easiesly. Go to settings/general/accessibility/assistive
touch activate this botton and you can manage it to choose witch options you'll
need.
This botton can be remove at the same place than the home botton.
Hope it helps

You can also enable the assistive touch virtual button and configure this
gesture with it. This is what I do for notifications, control center, etc.

2018-12-14 Thread l . d . ethier23
Hello faulks,
I hope my expanation will clear because english is not my first langage.

2018-12-14 Thread Robert Wright
In this case sliding is a better term for what you need.I believe that most
people swipe and tend to lift the finger at the end of the swipe.

character is found in how you treat people who cannot do anything for you!

Hello Jed,

Wow! This really sounds frustrating for you.

To be clear, I've never even touched a 10 R but I quite frequently use the
other models of the 10 series via VoiceOver and have been impressed with the
results.

Have you tried rebooting the phone?

When I was getting used to the non-home button scenario, I remember that the
first challenge was remembering to swipe up from the very edge of the display.
This proved to be quite crucial.

So, try to get your finger as close to the bottom edge of the display as
possible and swiping up in one smooth, fluid motion.

I'm afraid that's all the advice I have to offer.

Mark

Jed, touch at the bottom edge of the phone. When you hear a small pop you slide
up to the first vibration.this is the home button. The second vibration is your
app switcher.
