Re: airdrop and bard mobile question

2023-01-15 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I would strongly urge anyone like myself who really doesn't like to
have to redownload their bard books when getting a new iPhone to write
to nlsdownl...@loc.gov. I heard in a recent NLS presentation that nls
is aware of the issue and how much people want the feature of their
bard books transferring over to a new phone.

Subject: AirDrop

OK, I’m having a rough weekend with this phone business.

At one point my husband and I were both on the same Apple ID. He now has his
own. And his contacts did not move to the new phone. I have all of our contacts
on my phone. I tried to use airdrop to send them to his phone. It will not
work. Here is the process I used:

One on both phones I selected sharing with everyone. Two on my phone I
selected the contact that I wanted to share selected airdrop and then chose
Jerry’s name as a person to share the contact. Number three Jerry‘s phone then
lets me know that my phone is trying to send him a contact and would he like to
accept or decline. I press except I hear voiceover telling me what percentage
of the contact has been transferred to his phone and when the transfer is
completed.

I then checked his contacts, no transfer took place.

If someone could please tell me what I’m doing wrong I would be very
appreciative.

Thank you,

Lynda

Ok, when I did the go menu and chose airdrop, it brought up a dialog with a
sidebar, etc. I don’t see any way of picking everyone on the mac..

My mac never shows up on the phone, either..

Re: airdrop

2019-01-24 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Cait,

Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and have Bluetooth turned
on. Go to General Settings on your phone, choose AirDrop, and make sure it's
set to Everyone or Contacts only. Everyone makes it the easiest, so I would
recommend choosing that. On your Mac, open Finder, Choose the Go menu, and on
that menu, choose AirDrop. Command-Shift-R while in Finder will also open
AirDrop. Make sure it's set to Contacts or Everyone.

HTH,
Anna

RE: what happened to airdrop

2017-11-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Fanus,

Since nobody else replied yet, here the short version:
Airdrop allows you to transfer things like pictures, videos, contacts or other
files from one iOS device to another using bluetooth.
My wife and I both have iPhones so if, for example, I have a picture I want to
send to her, I go into Photos, open the picture, tap on “Share” and then I see
all the share options like Message, email and so on and there will also be an
option for Airdrop. If we both have Airdrop turned on and are close to each
other (this only works when you are maybe 10 or 20 feet apart at most) then her
name would show up next to Airdrop. I tap on that and she instantly gets a
notification which pops up on her iPhone which tells her I am sharing this and
if she wants to Accept or Decline. If she taps Accept then in just a second or
two the picture is transferred and now is part of her Photo library just as if
she had taken it herself.
You can turn Airdrop on or off, if On you can select “Contacts only” or
“Everybody” which means if you selected Contacts Only nobody nearby would be
able to send you anything. Let’s say you were at an airport waiting for your
flight with a dozen or more people sitting nearby, if you had Airdrop turned on
and set to “Everybody” then somebody could randomly send you a photo or
whatever, of course you can decline it, but I usually have mine set to Contacts
Only.

Take care,
Sieghard

Right; they moved the setting out of Control center. Once you turn it on,
though, you use Share and then Airdrop to send something, just as you did
before.

RE: AirDrop

2014-10-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Airdrop allows you to send various files from one Airdrop enabled device to
another. If, for example, you have an iPhone 5S and an iPad Mini Retina or
iPad Air you can go to Control Centre and turn on Airdrop. You can then
share contacts or songs wirelessly. I guess this is more meant if you want
to share a photo or song with somebody else since if you use the same Apple
Id on multiple devices chances are these items are already on both devices.

Airdrop between iPad ini and iPhone 5 unreliable anyone else see this?

2014-06-03 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi all,

Subject says it all.
I have airdrop turned on on both devices set to anyone to make sure there's no
confusion. Both bluetooth and wifi are on on both devices and often the
recipient for air-drop does not show up.
It sometimes work but hit and miss.
Is this normal bug?
Latest ios version on both devices.

Thanks,

Ioana

Why not use Dropbox?

Your other choices would be for him to take them off his iPad by connecting
it to a computer. He can then put them on a USB stick and you can sync them
to your iPad Mini usig iTunes.

As a third alternative you could use an app like WiFiTransfer from Noteable
Group, the same developer who was just mentioned this morning for their
TextSync app. Below is the link in the app store for the free version, the
Pro version is $2.99, but since the descriptions read the same I'm not sure
what you get that you don't get with the free version. I assume it's the
removal of ads since this seems to be the same with TextSync which is also
$2.99. Anyhow, you can get the free version instead of the Pro and if you
want pay the $2.99 as an in-app purchase. I also can't speak for its
accessibility, but then again it is free so no harm in trying it:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wifitransfer-wireless-file/id797441145?mt=8
I'm not sure what

I'm sure there are plenty of apps out there who do the same thing either via
WiFi or Bluetooth, but I still would just get your friend to upload the file
to either a shared Dropbox folder or to the Public folder, then he can send
you a link for it and you can download it on your iPad Mini by marking it as
a Favorite.

I've performed an airdrop transfer with a relative from an iPad 3. This was
about 4 or 5 months ago. I'll try it between my own devices to be sure it
still works today but I did do it in the past.

RE: airdrop equivalent app for iPad 3

2014-06-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

WiFi or Bluetooth, but I still would just get your friend to upload the file
to either a shared Dropbox folder or to the Public folder, then he can send
you a link for it and you can download it on your iPad Mini by marking it as
a Favorite.

Regards,
Sieghard

Really? How odd! But at least it worked. Once it started working, were you able
to re-connect to wifi and have it continue to operate? If not, I'd still
suggest a network settings reset. Again, though, that will erase all saved
networks and bluetooth pairings, so it is a last resort of sorts.

or "Everyone." Any clue as to what's wrong here?

A: The first thing to check is to set both your iPhone and your girlfriend's
iPhone to "Everyone" and see if AirDrop works in this mode; also be sure to
give it a few seconds as other devices don't always appear immediately.

The "Contacts Only" setting in AirDrop applies only on the receiving iPhone.
In fact this is the case with the AirDrop setting in Control Center in
general-you don't need to have AirDrop enabled at all in order to send to
another device; the setting is simply there to determine whether AirDrop is
on for receiving from other devices.

For AirDrop to work properly with the "Contacts Only" setting, both devices
must be signed into iCloud and the receiving device must have your iCloud
email address listed somewhere in their Contacts. In your case, this means
that at least one of the email addresses associated with your iCloud account
must be somewhere in your girlfriend's address book. Ideally, this should be
the primary address-the one that you use for your Apple ID-although other
addresses should work as long as they've been associated with your Apple ID.

You can see which addresses have been associated with your Apple ID by going
to http://appleid.apple.com in a web browser from your computer and logging
in with your Apple ID. Also make sure that any additional addresses are
showing as verified.

Essentially, the way that AirDrop works is that your device (the sending
device) broadcasts out an AirDrop request that contains all of the email
addresses associated with the iCloud account you're using. Receiving devices
that are in "Contacts Only" mode will only respond to requests that match
email addresses that are stored in that device's contacts database. The
receiving device doesn't respond if nothing matches, in which case you'll
never see it in the list of available AirDrop destinations.

>From an AirDrop connectivity point of view it doesn't matter if the
recipient's address is in the sender's contacts. The sender's contacts
database only determines what information shows up in the AirDrop devices
listing; the recipient's contact info will be shown if it's available, if
not the name of the remote device is shown.

Keep in mind also that AirDrop is only available when the receiving device's
screen is on, and will also be automatically disabled when a device is in
"Do Not Disturb" mode; since the AirDrop alert will be suppressed in this
mode, there's little point in trying to send something to the other user.

AirDrop Explained was RE: Apple could not even help with frustrating airdrop issue

2014-03-22 Thread Alan Lemly
The following iLounge article does a pretty good job of explaining AirDrop
and was copied from this page:

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/problems-sending-via-aird
rop-/

Q: I can't send stuff out using AirDrop to my girlfriend's iPhone. It never
seems to find her iPhone, even though we both have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and
AirDrop on. We're both in each other's address book, but it can't find her
iPhone regardless of whether I set AirDrop on my iPhone to "Contacts Only"
or "Everyone." Any clue as to what's wrong here?

- Ben

First, one forum suggests disconnecting from wifi. So, "forget" your home
wifi network, on both phones, and try Airdrop. If it works, you can probably
get back on wifi. I've successfully Airdropped with another phone and we
were both on the same network at the time, but perhaps this will, I don't
know, jumpstart something?

Next, and this may be further than you are willing to push the issue, but
try a network settings reset. This will wipe out all saved wifi passwords
and bluetooth pairings on your device. Do that on both phones and try
Airdrop. As above, if it starts working, put your wifi and other network
settings back and see if it keeps working, which it should.

Re: Apple could not even help with frustrating airdrop issue

2014-03-22 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

I understand that this might not be overly helpful, but in my
experience, weird communication issues between Apple devices are
almost always caused by your WIFI router. If you have a nearby friend,
I would suggest going round to their house to try sending things over
their network.

Cheers,
Ben.

Airdrop works with URLs in Safari, images, and a few other places. The
real power of the feature is in its system-wide access. Any app
developer whose app uses sharing can add this, so that you can Airdrop
content between your copy of the app and someone else's. For example,

Re: Apple could not even help with frustrating airdrop issue

2014-03-22 Thread Christopher J Chaltain

I found this

With AirDrop, you can share photos, videos, websites, locations, and
more with other nearby iOS 7 devices.

I used Google to find the web site http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5887
which has this and more information on Air Drop.

Re: Apple could not even help with frustrating airdrop issue

2014-03-22 Thread Alex Hall
Christine, this is going to sound stupid, but is Do Not Disturb enabled on
either device? Also, have you tried a hard reset? Not holding the power button
and shutting off, but holding home and power together until the phone starts to
boot back up (ten to twelve seconds)?

Airdrop works with URLs in Safari, images, and a few other places. The real
power of the feature is in its system-wide access. Any app developer whose app
uses sharing can add this, so that you can Airdrop content between your copy of
the app and someone else's. For example, a recipes app might enable Airdrop so
you can share a recipe, or a search app might let you share the page you are
viewing. Apple has added Airdrop to some apps, but mostly it is up to
developers to hop on the band wagon.

is airdrop broken on the iPhone 5

2014-03-22 Thread Alex Stone
Now that I have a 5c for work, I've been playing with airdrop. I
can happily airdrop my 5 from my 5c but not the other way round. I do
have airdrop enabled on both devices. Has anyone else seen this?

Cheers

Nothing - it sounds like you've done everything correctly. Have you restarted
both phones? If this is your first time using Airdrop, it might be worth a
reset just to be sure everything is in order internally.
