Re: Cell data questions

2015-02-10 Thread Feliciano Godoy

I also manage my cellular data on my iPhone. I have Verizon
wireless, when I got the 90% mark of my data allowance, my iPhone said that I
have used 1.7 GB.other people have reported that this data usage does not match
with other carriers. I have read articles in the past stating that verizon
wireless says that we use more data than what we actually use, not sure if
those articles are basing off this issue that some of us are experiencing with
the iPhones. Turning off cellular data will increase battery life as there is
no internet signal incoming or outgoing from the device.Regards, Feliciano

Re: Cell data questions

2015-02-10 Thread Charles Rivard
On question 1, that is what I do, and it seems to clear up the problem of
not matching. We have the same carrier.

On question 2, I have no idea. I leave it on, though, in case I forget to
turn it on before leaving home. However, I do turn Bluetooth and WiFi off
when leaving home for that very reason: battery conservation. HTH.

By default your iPhone will automatically connect to your WI-FI home router.
When you leave your coverage area, your iPhone will automatically connect to
your carrier's network smoothly and you won't even notice it. I've started
downloads at home downloading NLS Talking books where the file size may be 150
megs. The download was never interrupted.

RE: Data questions!

2014-04-25 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Jose and welcome to your new iPhone.

To answer your question:

All things being equal, when you are connected to WiFi and that WiFi
connection has access to the Internet (for it is possible to be connected to
a WiFi network yet the network is not connected to the Internet), and
assuming the app allows WiFi connectivity (which most do), you will be
accessing data via the WiFi instead of your cellular data connection.

However, if you want to insure that data-heavy apps, such as iTunes Radio,
be restricted from using cellular data, thus limiting them to WiFi only, do
the following in iOS 7.1.1:

1.
From the Launch pad, select Settings.
2.
Select Cellular.
3.
Explore the screen. Just below the Use Cellular Data For heading, you
will see a list of apps that can use your device's cell signal.
4.
Find the app that you wish to restrict to WiFi only and make sure it's
status is set to Off. In the case of iTunes Radio, the item you need to
locate is Music.

Once you set the Music status to Off, if ever you attempt to listen to
iTunes Radio when you are not successfully connected to an Internet
accessible WiFi network, you will receive a message informing you that you
need to turn on cellular data access in order to stream music over your cell
signal.

Enjoy,

Mark

Re: Data questions!

2014-04-25 Thread Christopher Chaltain
As long as your connected to wifi, you'll be using wifi and not cellular
data. Note you may still be using your cellular radio, for things like
phone calls, text messages and so on, but you won't be using cellular
data. If you drop your wifi connection then you'll start using cellular
data. I think others have posted instructions on how you can ensure
specific apps use wifi only.

You should use wifi for most things, at least that don't have to do with the
cell carrier like streaming. I think a small amount of data might get used for
voicemail and things like that.
