 Hi All,
 Okay,

Re: Face I'D

2020-11-12 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hi. I'm going to try and repeat something here which is a little
technical. I don't know any more about this than what I heard, so
those who know more, please pardon any errors I may make in the
retelling.
I watched a YouTube video recently from Rene Ritchie, a technology
reviewer, podcaster and YouTube video producer on the iPhone 12
series. In short, he said that product design cycles are made several
years in advance. In other words, what we saw in this year's phones
was initially conceived about 2 years or more ago. In that case, it
makes sense why this year's iPhones would not have a combination
Face/touch ID feature. In 2018, who could have known of the worldwide
crisis we now find ourselves in, and how valuable and useful such a
phone would be? Rene proposed that the phone with both Face and touch
ID was conceived and started in the design process in 2018, so it
makes sense that it would be ready in 2021. This would also align with
other rumors and patents on the issue. Again, this is all one person's
speculation, but if you consider the point he raises, it makes a lot
of sense. If you want to know more of his views and thoughts, search
for Rene Ritchie on YouTube and I'm sure his channel will come up.
Also, for what it's worth, I've heard Rene speak highly of
accessibility in general and for the blind in particular.

Be well,
Wayne Merritt

Hello, I am about to get my first phone with face id, and am fairly confident

No reason why one form of security wont work,

Just remember though that more people have success with face id than don't on
phones that require face id.

When I get a new iPhone, I'm not going to use face ID at all, just a passcode.
I was talking to someone recently at apple accessibility and they told me, that
I have a choice whether to use face ID at all.
This was something I didn't know about. I have the choice of using face ID,
using a passcode, or turning off all security together where my iPhone wouldn't
lock at all. I would never turn off security all together, so when I get a new
iPhone, I'm not going to enable face ID, but just use a passcode to unlock my
iPhone.

RE: Face I'D

2020-11-11 Thread janet gross
Hello All,
Well, Talking about face id, just my personal opinion, lately face id is not as
secure as I would like. For the simple fact, Face id doesn't work with a face
mask. So when I'm in the store, and using my phone to pull up my grocery list,
I have to enter my six digit security code, and a shopper from the store is
right there listening, as well as other customers. Well, I gave up on using
Apple pay for the very same reason face id doesn't work either. This isn't a
good security system. Oh sure I can use my Bluetooth head phones, but then I
can't hear the scanner telling me the price of my groceries, so I know I'm not
being over charged. There are also other times when I might need to unlock my
phone as well. So the only time face id works for me is when I'm home, and I
don't wear a mask in my house. Apple really should have done something about
the face id and wearing face maskes.
This is not good security! LOL!
I would much prefer touch id as opposed to face id! I think right now, touch
id is much more secure! Maybe we need to go back in time! Smile!
Janet
