One thing I really like about these custom pronunciations is they are backed up along with other VoiceOver settings to iCloud. This makes going from one device to another that much easier. Not a show stopper, but it certainly helped to have them entered. Also, when I had an Apple TV, I noticed

Kathy, I would urge you and everyone to get in the habit of adding custom pronunciations in iOS for those many times when synthesizers totally botch a word or name's pronunciation. You can find this in Settings, General, Accessibility, Speech, and Pronunciations. You can double tap the add
