hello Mark,

What is your hessatation to upgrade to iOS 14? I’ve been using it when the
first public beta was released. No major problems with it’s current version,
iOS 14.7.1. Of course, now, I’m beta testing the developer betas of iOS 15, and
reporting bugs I find. If you want to use Audible, it seems you will have to
update.

RE: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

2021-08-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You have to write the individual app developers as they are the ones who have
to make sure their apps are compatible with the version of iOS they say works.
If Audible says it runs on iOS 11 and above and it does not work correctly on
iOS 13 then Audible has to fix it and not Apple.

You are running 14.7.1. There is no problem with that version, it is those
earlier than 14. I had just reset network settings over the weekend, I just did
it again, just to be sure, with the same results. Remember, it is not just
Audible, it is four apps over the last two days. I don't remember what two of
them were, I deleted them. The fourth one, Shazam, will still work with the
version that was on my phone, but it will not update. I probably will write
Apple Support later today.

RE: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

2021-08-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hi Everyone,

I am delighted to report the following:

About an hour or so, ago, I noticed that the Audible listing in the app store
had been updated to state that the latest version requires iOS 14 or higher. I
also noticed that the size of the download file has increased by a third.

I took this as a good sign.

So, I then selected the re-download option as I had done countless times during
the past 24-hours (smile) and, after being told that iOS 14 was required to run
the latest version, to my delight, I was prompted to download an older version
of the app. I said "OK" to the prompt and version 5.40 of Audible was
successfully installed on my beloved iPhone 8 Plus running iOS 13.7.

A little while ago, I received another email from Audible stating that they had
contacted Apple and that the problem had been resolved and that I should go
ahead and attempt to re-download the app.

According to Audible, the problem had something to do with Apple but, whatever
the case, it has been resolved.

On an iTunes for Windows 7 note: I successfully installed iTunes 12.10.11.2 on
my PC. After having done so, I made my first iTunes backup of my phone in over
a year as it had been that long since the backup feature had failed in iTunes
12.6. Of course, I have iCloud backups of all of my devices but I much prefer
a encrypted computer backup to iCloud, if given a choice.

Finally, a happy ending (big smile).

Mark

Hello All,

Okay, I received a reply from Audible this morning that is of absolutely no
help. According to them, the latest version of the app will only work with iOS
14 or later.

Yes, as we have discovered, the app does show up in the app store of iOS13.
And, when you read the description of the app, it clearly states that the app
is compatible with iOS 11 or higher.

I will now paste in part of the message I received from Audible.

[BEGIN MESSAGE]:
Hello Mark,

The current version of the Audible app for iOS is 3.54 and requires iOS version
14 or higher, or watchOS 7 or later. Users on older OS versions will not see
this update available in the App Store.

Thank you for contacting Audible!

The current version of the Audible for iOS (v3.54) requires an OS version of 14
or higher, or a watchOS of 7 or later. As I understand from the information
provided your iOS device is currently running iOS 13.7.

While an older version of the Audible for iOS app will remain available to you
in the App Store, to see any further updated versions, you will need to update
your device to iOS 14. Please also keep in mind that while we will continue to
support you with troubleshooting steps, new features and fixes may not be
available to you and any troubleshooting of older app versions may be limited.

Thank you again for your continued patience. Stay safe.
[END MESSAGE]:

So, after receiving this message I immediately contacted iTunes support and
spoke, at length with a senior advisor. She assures me that they only have 1
(one) version of the app on the store and that the app is the latest version,
only.

I asked her what would happen if a person running iOS 13.7 attempted to
download the Audible app, for the very first time.  That seemed to stump her;
she said that she did not know; that a device, downloading the app fir the very
first time, may, in fact, have access to the earlier version of the app.
Regardless, it does not apply to me because they cannot remove the app from my
list of purchases.

So, a few minutes ago, just as an afterthought, I searched the web for a 32-bit
version of the latest versions of iTunes for Windows. You may recall that a
while back, when I searched, I could not find any Apple supported version of
iTunes for Windows 7 or 8, 32-bit.

Well, believe it or not, as of December 7, 2020, they have made a 32-bit of
iTunes 12.10.11.2 available for download. I was stunned.

Later this weekend, I will attempt to install this version of iTunes onto my PC
and, if successful, then I will update my beloved 8 Plus to iOS 14.

Wish me luck.

Mark

As you may have read, I have had four apps over the last two days that
wouldn't update on my IPhone 6, so I do not believe it is specific to the
audible app. One of them, Shazam, is an apple product, so for sure, it ought to

phone to iOS 14.x, then I would no longer be able to use my current version of
iTunes for Windows in order to sync data. I have just been delaying the
inevitable, said inevitability being that I must buy a new Windows computer so
I can install the latest version of iTunes. Another option is that I can
switch my iTunes Library to my Mac, an option in a pinch but one I would prefer
to avoid. There is really not a good reason to avoid using my Mac for my
primary phone but, deep down, I'm a Windows guy, I guess (smile).

6.
I am going to buy whatever version of iPhone is next released, regardless of
Touch ID. So, at that time, I will take the plunge and add a new Windows
computer to the team so I can have every available option for the new phone.

7.
I have posted feedback about this problem in the App Store.

8.
I have contacted Audible support and they have created a trouble ticket and
assure me that the problem should be resolved in a few days.

9.
I also contacted Audible via Twitter. They actually told me that I could
download the previous version of the app from the App Store but, of course,
they were mistaken; that kind of rollback is only available on Android.

Okay, I think that about does it.

Again, thank you all for contributing to this thread.

Mark

Subject: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

Hello Everyone,

Okay, everything was fine with the Audible app on my iPhone 8 running 13.x
until I attempted to install the update, released 2 days ago.

Each time I tried to update, it failed. So, I deleted my currently installed
version with the intention of installing a fresh copy of the app.

You guessed it, now the app will not install.

If the app was not compatible with my current version of iOS, then it should
not show in my updates list.

This is just a heads-up for everyone.

Re: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

2021-08-18 Thread Arnold Schmidt
You are running 14.7.1. There is no problem with that version, it is those
earlier than 14. I had just reset network settings over the weekend, I just did
it again, just to be sure, with the same results. Remember, it is not just
Audible, it is four apps over the last two days. I don't remember what two of
them were, I deleted them. The fourth one, Shazam, will still work with the
version that was on my phone, but it will not update. I probably will write
Apple Support later today.

Re: Problem with the Audible App for iOS 13.x:

2021-08-18 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Donna, what IOS are you running? The problem Mark and I have reported is for
IOS older than 14. Once when I tried updating it on my IPhone 6, it told me
that I needed IOS 14. Now, it just stays at zero percent. Why was I offered
it? It is fine on this phone, running 14.7.1.

I don't use my IPhone 6, running 12.5.4 a lot now, but I have been keeping it
updated. But over the last two days, there have been four apps, Audible,
Shazam, I do not remember the other two, that had updates that would not
install. At the time, I just surmised that 12.5.4 was just too old to run them,
but I wondered why I was offered the updates at all. When I would go back to
these apps, it would say recently updated, but they wouldn't run. When my
IPhone 5 was at the point in its lipe my 6 is now, I simply was not offered the
update. I hope they fix this soon. At least you could have used the old Audible
app until it wouldn't work any more.

I am trying to purchase a book on audible, but it keeps telling me that this
app does not support purchasing, and to add it to my Wishlist. I also get the
same message from the Amazon app. Do I need to download a different app? Or do
I need to purchase it from my computer?

RE: Problem with the Audible app

2019-01-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
While Amazon owns Audible, the Amazon app or, for that matter, the Amazon
website is completely independent from the Audible app and website. As others
have pointed out, you can only purchase books for credits or cash on the
Audible website and you can do that on the iPhone using Safari and going to
www.Audible.com or by going to the website using a PC and your browser of
choice.

It's my understanding that you can't purchase books through the Audi app. I
hope I'm wrong. Susie

Re: Problem with the Audible app

2019-01-15 Thread Matthew Bullis
This is correct. You can log into the site in question on Safari and purchase
the material, then come back to your app and download. This works well for the
examples cited above with Amazon and Audible.

Re: Problem with the Audible app

My understanding is that by purchasing the book from an app on your
phone would send too large a percentage of the price over to Apple, so
Amazon doesn't allow this. Others who've done this more recently on
their iPhones will probably weigh in shortly though.
