Have you tried using the check In button that is right above the home
button, in the middle of the bottom of the screen? Also, if all you
want to do is check in and find out how many points you got, you might
try using the free app called Checkie. It makes checking into your
favorite venue tons

In the app, tap through to the friend's profile page and tap 'friends.' This
will remove the person from your friends list and cause the button to toggle
