RE: Native Mail app and folder presentation

2022-08-24 Thread Alan Lemly
No, I don’t believe this is a bug but what I’d call a deficiency in the
functionality of the programmed app.

Hi List,

I use the native Mail app on my iPhone 13 Mini running iOS 15.6.1. When I open
the Mailboxes Back button in the upper left corner of the Inbox screen, I’m
presented with the Inbox at the top, followed by VIP, followed by the folders
available in my Gmail account. I want the ability to set the Sent Items folder
to show at the top just below the Inbox but cannot figure out a way to do this.
I’ve just about concluded that I can’t do it but thought I’d run the question
by those on this list before giving up. Any help with this issue would be
greatly appreciated.

RE: Native mail app

2020-09-26 Thread Richard Turner
I would expand the htread first rather than using the messages item on the
rotor.
So, before opening the thread, flick up a couple of times to expand thread and
double tap.
Then, each message is separated.

Is it possible to direct email from particular senders into it’s

Would be appreciative of any guidance on this, if it is an option.

Re: Native Mail App Question

2020-03-31 Thread Eric Caron
Yes,

I think there is a way to get to rules in mail. I don’t remember how I
did it but I think it is through iCloud on the web. If one can do that using
safari through a iOS device then you might be able to set up the mail boxes and
rules that way. Certainly not an easy process.

I really appreciate the problem solving and info on this list.

2020-03-31 Thread Shirley Baker
If you are wanting to create a folder using your iPhone and move email into it,
this is how you do it. Go to mailboxes and select edit. At the last item is new
mailbox option. Here you name the folder and activate the location to put the
folder where you want it. Finish by selecting done at top. If this isn't what
you were trying to do, then disregard my message.

Hi Danny,

On a device it is not possible to have mails go into specific folders.
If you have a computer then yes, there are ways to apply the rules so that
incoming emails goes into their respective folders.

Hope this helps

RE: Native Mail App Question

Right, but it would be nice to be able to set up those kinds of rules on the
iPhone.
More and more people are just using devices and not a computer.

If you want to have messages from a group such as this go to a specific mailbox
that can be done with mail rules in the mail app on a Mac computer. Thats how I
sort out several mailing lists.

I have done this also in google in the past so I expect most mail
applications, at least on the computer can do that.

My iPhone in box seems to be following the rules I set up on my computer. I
must admit however that I read most list emails on my computer by going to the

Still the messages are getting filtered correctly when I check my mail on my

Hi all,
Once again I’m writing about the native Mail app for IOS. As many of you know,
I’ve fussed aplenty about focus issues with VoiceOver and other issues that
contribute to my love/hate relationship with Mail. I won’t belabor those things
lest I be tempted to launch into yet another rant, and y’all don’t need that.
Okay, having said that, I’m really curious about the user experience with and
without Zoom. I’m assuming that many of us know sighted folks who also use
Mail. Maybe some of you out there use Zoom with it instead of VoiceOver. Do
Zoom users experience annoying focus issues with Mail? When using Zoom and
opening a previously-unopened message thread, is it common to be placed into
anything other than the first message? What kinds of issues are sighted users
experiencing with Mail? These are just a couple of questions that I’ve
wondered about as I’ve battled the Mail app with VoiceOver over the past few
days and I’m curious what people have to say.
Thanks,
Tom

I am not using Braille and see the misspelled words issue you all are
referencing. I am noticing the issues with focus in 13.2 as well, say, when
deleting a message or thread, and had reported this when I went to 13.1 and got
the can’t be reproduced response and was recommended to screen share. This
behavior had seemed to quiet down by 13.1.3 but is cropping up more again.

Re: Native Mail app focus issues under iOS 13.2

2019-11-01 Thread Robin Frost
Hi Sir,
Yes it’s a thing and I called Apple today and was first told they knew not of
it. When I gave my Apple ID of course he brought up the ticket associated with
me at least. Sadly as these things go while screen sharing it wouldn’t manifest
at will so I could show the man but I did explain that while it’s still prone
to happen it is a smidge so in iOS 13.2 for me. Nevertheless it is an
inconvenience.
Do join in reporting to to Apple Accessibility if you’d be so kind.
Take good care.

Subject: Native Mail app focus issues under iOS 13.2

Hi List,

I think this subject might have been previously discussed so I apologize as I
only upgraded to iOS 13.x on Tuesday of this week.

I use the native Mail app for reading my Gmail account emails and I have it set
to display messages in threaded mode. I'm noticing that when focus is on a
message group with multiple messages, that when I single finger swipe down and
select expand to open the list of messages in the group that focus jumps
several screens up or down rather than leaving me at the top of the opened list
as it did in iOS 12.4.1. I get similar screen jumps and loss of focus when I
single finger swipe to contract the opened thread.

I'm also noticing that when I open a single email that isn't part of a group,
that focus isn't on it any longer when I go back to my message list using
either the back button or the scrub gesture.

This loss of focus makes reading emails on my iPhone 8 a royal pain and I'm
wondering if others are experiencing it. If there is a workaround, I'd love to
hear it or if this is a known issue, I'd love to know that too. I plan on
writing Apple Accessibility to report this but I wanted to check with this list
first before doing that.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am having the same difficulty when trying to focus and email it keeps trying
to bring me back to the inbox.
I am also having a problem where notifications keep repeating themselves even
though I haven’t said to only repeat once. I have reported these issues to
Apple Accessability also.

RE: Native Mail app focus issues under iOS 13.2

2019-11-01 Thread lange85
Hi,

The “misspelled Words” item in the rotor is definitely a bug. Here’s what
someone at Applevis has to say about it.

There are numerous places system-wide where the Misspelled Words item will be
in the VoiceOver rotor's Action menu where this functionality is not available
(examples include when viewing a web page in Safari and when reading an email
in Mail). In some of these it is the default position of the VoiceOver rotor,
which is a frustrating hit on the user experience - for example when opening a
webpage in Safari and expecting to be able to immediately flick down to
navigate by heading.

Someone else on this list reported that it also occurs in the NFB Newsline app
when trying to navigate through newspapers by heading. I can definitely verify
this, as I experienced it this morning.

Hi All,

Alan, I haven't notice your thread issue because I usually open a thread with a
one finger double tap and read through the messages that way. ⠠⠓⠪⠐⠑⠂ I know
what you mean when exiting from a message or for me it occurs on a thread of
messages. When I return to the ⠍⠑⠎⠎⠁⠛⠑ list there is random behavior. Sometimes
it does focus on the message or thread I have just closed, but at other times
the focus is at the top or somewhere else on the message list. (Sometimes I
whimsically wonder if it has something ⠞⠕ do with the way I am holding the
⠏⠓⠐⠕⠲ :)) It is annoying, and I need to report it also. I was hoping that 13.2
would fix it, but it hasn't.

The other weird thing that happens for me is that when I am reading through a
thread message by message, when I turn the rotor ⠞⠕ to go to the "messages"
setting I always have to pass through "misspelled words." I have looked all
over to try to get rid of the "misspelled words" in the rotor with no luck.
Neither "Messages" nor "misspelled words" appear in the rotor list, so I can't
change their order. I searched in settings for "misspelled words" and couldn't
find any reference to it. Am I missing something or is this is just a bug?

Thanks for any help!

Take care and have fun!

Hi Alan,

I’ve experienced similar issues with the native Mail app since IOS 13 came out.
I reported it to Apple Accessibility and they responded, saying that the
problem couldn’t be reproduced. I suspect that the guy who handled the
situation didn’t know what I was talking about and was basically clueless. I’ll
report it again, as reading mail can be a royal pain because of the focus
issues.

I also plan to report Braille display issues as well. I had thought that
Braille behavior had improved with 13.2, but there are still a number of issues
while using my Braille display, including VO crashing.

Re: Native Mail App or GMail App?

2019-10-28 Thread Alan Lemly

Dani,

I can't compare the native mail app to Gmail because I've been using the native
mail app for the six plus years I've used an iPhone. I've learned it and it
meets my needs. And you are the only person who can decide which one works
better for you.

RE: Native Mail App

2017-09-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I completely agree with Richard, the native Mail app is done very nicely, it is
very easy to use multiple accounts and especially since iOS 10 Apple has made
it very easy also to deal with threaded messages, attach files and all that. I
also have tried Outlook although I have not gone back to it since they fixed
the very serious limitation which did not allow you to add or edit contacts,
Outlook is also a very nice app, but the Mail app is there and it's in my view
still better.

Regards,
Sieghard

I like the way the native mail app handles all my Email accounts.
The only other app I tried was Outlook, and frankly, I personally prefer the
native mail app. It doesn't matter why.

More importantly, is there something about the native mail app you dislike?
