Re: Siri claims I have no voicemail messages and refuses to dial!

2019-08-30 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
Again, Siri says she cannot dial that number. It is curious that on my other
iPhone where I created a contact with a number 443, Siri will ring that contact
and that number takes me tgrough to the voicemail for that different carrier.
So, it cannot be because the number is too short. Hey, ho!

Thank you Deidre, no I didn't know most of what you suggest, I'll give it a
try. Since I do like to make sure that I can use the phone manually (and don't
get along particularly well with the phone keypad) checking voicemail is one
way of forcing me to practice, however, having an alternative is always a good
idea. I'll go experiment.
Thanks,

RE: Siri claims I have no voicemail messages and refuses to dial!

2019-08-29 Thread 'deidre muccio' via VIPhone
Hello J.

As you said, if you ask Siri to call voice
mail, she will tell you that there is or has no voice mail. I just tested this.

If you ask Siri to call yourself she will. You would then listen and follow
instructions on how to retrieve your mail with the password you have set up.
This is how you would retrieve voice mail remotely.

If you simply ask Siri to play your most recent voice mail, she
will do that if you have any unopened voice mail messages. If all of them have
already been listened to, she will say something like "there are (or you have)
no new voice mail messages but there (or you) have 2 saved voice mail messages."

I'm sorry if anything I have written below is already well
known to you.

If you have notifications for phone off, you will not see in
the DOC the number or calls or voice mails you may have gotten in any period of
time. You will need to open the phone app to see if anything has come in. Once
in the phone app, depending on what you select, Recents or Voice Mail, all the
information you want is there.

I have other disappointments and frustrations with Siri since
updating, but trust the security patches alone made it worth it. I can't say. I
understand there is or will be one more update for older phones such as the 6,
I'll do that and then be done with it until whenever I need to replace my
current phone.

I've had the same experiences re Siri saying I have no voice mail (Even when I
have just missed a call and heard the notification announcing a message was
left) and she will refuse to phone saying that there are no voice mail
messages. It has been this way since I first got my IPhone 8 in January so I
had thought it was just the way Siri is. (Frankly the feature is such a
disappointment in so many ways one more didn't make a major difference.) But
if these are actions that it can perform that would be great.

Re: Siri claims I have no voicemail messages and refuses to dial!

2019-08-29 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
Im in the uk and it may be different here. I have an iphone XS with a BT SIM
and an iphone 7 with Giffgaff. I can access voicemails on both iphones eitger
from the Voicemail tab in the Phone app or by manually dialing the carrier’s
voicemail number. But siri says she cannot dial the numbrrs and if asked to
call voicemail, she claims i have no voivemail messages. The workaround on my
iogone 7 is to create a new Contact called Giffgaff with the phone number as
443 (Giffgaff’s voicemail) - and now i can ask siri to call Giffgaff and she
puts me tgrough to Giffgaff voicemail. This does not work woth the BT number as
siri tells me she cannot dial that number (1571). This seems to be a siri
problem - after all, my voicemail itself works fine.
