Re: voiceover voices

2021-04-02 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I can't stand Daniel enhanced or otherwise, but it is good you can
still get him. I only download enhanced voices to my iPhone because
the sound is so much better. I'm currently using Lee enhanced and he
sounds great on my iPhone. Alex is also quite good.

Re: voiceover voices scratchy

2016-10-06 Thread Feliciano Godoy
The compact option is no longer available with that term. You must choose the
regular Samantha voice as that is what used to be the compact voice. If you
want to make sure that the Samantha voice is selected and not the enhanced
Samantha voice you must go to your iPhone settings, general, accessibility,
voiceover, speech, US English, Samantha and then choose Samantha opposed to
enhanced Samantha.

If I'm not mistaken, you were probably using the compact voice before.
Then when you did the update you got switched to the enhanced voice.
For whatever reason, it seems like the enhanced voices, especially Samantha,
sound to me like three pack a day smokers. Go into VO under accessibility and
switch back to the compact voice and all should be well.

I remember having to poke around before I found it. Unfortunately, I
can't give you any more specific instructions than to just go into
speech under voiceover and do some exploring. She's definitely in
there, hiding out but definitely there. Hopefully someone else will be

RE: Voiceover voices

2016-04-08 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Paul,

I setup a different voice for notifications using the VoiceOver Activities
feature. In order to make certain that I would not forget how to setup such a
service, I wrote a short document, the contents of which, I will paste in,
below.

Hopefully, it will provide enough information to get you started.

Okay, here it is:

How To Set A VoiceOver Activity for Notification Center info

NOTE:
This document assumes that you know how to create and configure VoiceOver
Activities.

Generally speaking, I prefer my default system VO Voice to be Alex. However, I
want any and all of my system notifications to use my beloved Samantha voice.

The short answer:

To set a VoiceOver Activity for the Mac OSX Notification Center, when selecting
a finder app in the Activity configuration process, simply locate the
Notification Center app and select it. The notification app is located in the
Core Services Folder of the Library folder which is located on the hard drive’s
system folder.

The long answer is that when you Click on the Find App option during the
Activity creation process, you will be placed in the Applications folder. The
Notification Center app is located in a different place. You must find the
correct folder and then simply select the Notifications.app file.

A.
First, open the computer’s hard drive.
Second, open the System folder.
Third, open the Library folder.
Fourth, open the CoreServices folder.
Fifth, select the Notification.app file.

or

B.
Use the Command + Shift + G key-combo and type in
/System/Library/CoreServices/
to get to the correct folder, super fast.

Good Luck and Enjoy.

Mark

RE: Voiceover voices

2016-04-06 Thread M. Taylor
Richard, I got your Alfred reference.

I loved him, also.

For those not familiar with Alfred, he was the butler on the 1960s, short-lived
(only 3 seasons I believe), Batman series.

Richard, thank you for making me smile, today, with that marvelous memory.

Choice of what voice to use is completely subjective. I, for example, can't
stand Eloquence, while Sieghard, and many, many others, would like to have it
on the iPhone.
I generally stick to Samantha and the male British Siri voice. (What can I
say, I wish I could afford a British butler, grin,) so Siri will have to do.
Though, he wouldn't let me call him Alfred. (Only those of a certain age and
TV viewing history will get that one.)

However, in Voice Dream Reader 4, I will sometimes use Alex, though I prefer
Amy for the bulk of my reading. I know Amy is not a VoiceOver voice, just
using that as an example of wide differences in listening choices.

I think some voices appeal to some people just like certain music appeals to
some and not others.

There is my two cents worth.

Richard

Hi Marissa,

Just as Dave said, the replies here will be all over the place. Alex definitely
has a following, I personally can't listen to him for an extended period of
time. Interestingly enough when I listen to Podcasts where the author uses Alex
he doesn't sound so bad and my 6S Plus probably has the best sound of all the
iPhones, but I always come back to Samantha Enhanced. Just last night I tried
the enhanced male and female SIRI voices again and I think if I were to use one
I prefer the male one, but like I said, when everything is said and done
Samantha Enhanced still sounds best to me. It's really too ad we can't have
Eloquence on the iPhone, that would be so awesome!

RE: Voiceover voices

2016-04-06 Thread M. Taylor
As is usually the case, I agree with Sieghard.

On my Macs, I use Alex for the primary voice with Samantha enhanced for all
notifications.

In iOS, I am definitely a Samantha enhanced, man, with the pitch option
disabled.

On Zoomtext, by the way, I prefer ViaVoice which is about as close as one can
get to Eloquence without having Eloquence, itself.

Of course, in Jaws, I only use Eloquence.

On my Android devices, although there are some really nice voices, including
Heather, which I used to prefer back in the old days of Windows Mobile, I now
prefer and use the Google text-to-speech engine (female). It is very clean and
crisp-sounding. I believe Eloquence is available in Android but only in the
MobileSpeak interface.

Despite all of the advances in speech synthesis, were I given the choice, I
would definitely use Eloquence for all my voices, especially in iOS.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: Voiceover voices

2016-04-06 Thread Richard Turner

Richard

Re: Voiceover voices

2016-04-06 Thread englishrider91
Compact Samantha (I can't stand her any other way) Alex sometimes, and the
higher-quality versions of the British Siri female and American Siri female
voices. I used to really love compact Karen, but ever since iOS 8, she's
sounded weird to me, which is why I switched to Samantha.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Voiceover voices question

2012-09-20 Thread Brett

 Hi,

Yes, just put Language in your rotor settings, then flick to the
australian voice. This will give you the low quality voice. If you want
the high quality voice, you need to go in to ciri settings and change
the Ciri language to English Australian. this will then give you the HQ
Australian voice.

Cheers,

Brett

Is there a way to make the Australian English voice my default voice?
I like that much more than the American sounding voice that I have
