RE: Time to grab IOS 14.5

2021-04-29 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
This was my impression at one time too, but I guess that's definitively not the
case. I upgraded my XR which is my main device to 14.5, but have an old
original SE that I now use for various tasks like timers, streaming media and
so on. Fortunately, I have that IP Bluetooth app on that device. SO I'm
probably going to keep it on iOS 14.X or whatever version it is before this
latest iOS 14.5 upgrade.
Regardless, this whole circumstance sucks.

Subject: RE: Time to grab IOS 14.5

The reason why I thought the new app worked with the older Bluetooth models was
because at one point I had downloaded the app to check it out. This was when
the Smart WiFi was first released so I downloaded the app and it let me go as
far as creating an account and I am almost certain that in one of the setup
screens I saw that one could use it with the older Bluetooth Instant Pot as
well. So now I just checked again the description for the app which is called
"Remote Control for Smart WiFi" and I read some of the reviews (not good). One
of the reviews and the reply from Instant Brands clarified this:

Review:
Let me start by saying, don’t bother with the Bluetooth Instant Pot. The BT
function is useless. It requires this app which has never worked for me. I’ve
had the BT IP for years. Sometimes the app connects but there was never a
functioning alarm where it would send you a notification when the IP was done.
And the Bluetooth range is literally 10 whole feet, unless there’s a wall. Why
bother? And now the app is even more useless if you can believe it because it
won’t even load My Devices. So I can’t even connect to the IP. I’ve tried
deleting the app and reinstalling. Why charge extra for a feature you never
intended to let people use, Instant Pot?! They have a WiFi IP now but why would
I ever spend the extra $$ for it when this hasn’t worked since Day One... like
6 or 7 years ago? Come on, figure it out!
Developer Response:
Thank you for your patience while we resolved the Server Error/My Device issue
with Smart WiFi. All WiFi connected appliances should be able to function again
as normal. If your device is not displaying or connected, please close the
Remote Control for Smart WiFi app, restart and begin the pairing process with
your Smart WiFi.
This app is not compatible with the Bluetooth Smart cooker, as support for that
product has ended, and the most recent iOS update is no longer compatible with
the Bluetooth Smart app.
If you need additional assistance, we’ve created a Smart WiFi user guide to
assist you: https://instantpot.com/smart-wifi-60-pairing/#tab-id-2. This will
guide you step-by-step through the pairing process with your iOS device.
Once again, thank you for your patience. Please reach out to our support team
if you have any additional difficulties or questions. We apologize for the
inconvenience that this caused.

I don't think I am going to ever buy one of these gadgets because I don't like
the company's attitude towards accessibilituy. When the Smart WiFi came out I
was really looking forward to getting one and then it was even difficult to
find it here in Canada even though originally this is a Canadian company.
Sometimes Amazon listed it and sometimes not, sometimes only third party
sellers listed it for double or triple the price and while it was often on sale
on Amazon.com, it was always super expensive on Amazon Canada. I contacted the
company complaining about the different pricing and also the fact that many
people reported problems with the accessibility of the app and all I ever
received were platitudes about how Instant Brands strives to make products
which can be used by all people includding those with disabilities and bla bla
bla. I asked specific questions and the lady I was talking with never
specifically answered any of them and finally I gave up.

Best regards,
Sieghard

No, you cannot use the newer app with the old pots in my experience.
If someone knows differently, I'm all ears please.
I will lose the Instant Pot and my weight scale when i get a new phone
so my hope was to keep my 8+ around for just that purpose so I'd like
to not lose the IP bluetooth model just yet. I know there's always a
risk.

It may help if you mentioned exactly which app you use, e.g. name and version
number which you can find either in the app store app or if you open the app
and find where in Settings or Help this information appears, but most apps do
show this information. I have never bought an Instant Pot yet because I don't
like their flaky approach to accessibility, but I thought you can also use the
newer app with the older Bluetooth pots?

This the older Bluetooth model, not the Wi-Fi model.
I’m running iOS 15 and on an iPhone SE second gen.
So, I don’t know what’s going on. Of course, I cant say that you will have the
same success. But I hope you do.
Again. This is the older Bluetooth app.
I uninstalled it several months back. Then several weeks ago, I went back
through my purchase history and reinstalled the app while under iOS 14.
At least here, it is working under iOS 15.

2021-04-26 Thread Mary Otten
Well, you got me. All I know is, it still won’t open on my phone which was just
updated to 14.5 public release. So I guess you can consider yourself lucky. It
does seem strange though that the same app works on your device and not on
mine. Guess I’m just lucky.

Well, my other iPhone, the one that had not been on the beta, just updated. And
my smart cooker app will not open. I get the same message there that I get on
my older phone which had been running the beta, where the problem first popped
up. Do you have the Bluetooth unit? Not the Wi-Fi one, yes? I don’t understand
it. Plus, where did you get it from, since it’s been absent from the App Store
for sometime?

Re: Time to grab IOS 14.5

2021-04-26 Thread Danny Keys
hi,

This is the app I download it I think in 2016 or 17.

I removed it from the phone several months ago.

A month or so ago I reinstalled it on the phone just to see if it would work
whenever the new update came out.

So far, at least the app is accessible.

Sometime in the next few days I’ll give it a try with the Insta pot and see how
it does.

Re: Time to grab IOS 14.5

2021-04-26 Thread Mary Otten
Yes. You still can’t access the instant pot. At least that’s true for my phone
which is running the most recent beta, apparently equivalent to the final
release.
and the app is gone. They’re not going to update it. Apple is very clear. When
you try to open the app, it says that the developer needs to update their app.
But the app is gone from the App Store.

RE: Time to grab IOS 14.5

2021-04-26 Thread Deb Cook Lewis
Is it still true that if we update to 14.5, the Bluetooth Instant Pot will no
longer work as previously reported by beta testers? My phone is old and doesn't
benefit much from updates except of course for security, but I won't update it
if I lose access to my instant pot.
