Actually, you are correct in that the punctuatio level makes all the
difference. However, the correct setting to pronounce Wi-Fi as “WiFi” is to
have it set to “Some”.

I just tested it and if you set it to “All” it will say “Wi hyphen Fi” and
if you set it to “None” it does in fact pronounce it the way Alan said as
“Weefee”.

I find the “All” punctuation setting useless because then it will also
speak the colon when it announces the time, e.g. 1 colon 37 and setting it
to None is equally useless at least for me because then it will make a lot
of these pronounciation errors. Therefore “Some” is the most useful.

Hi List,

I know in the scheme of things, this is a very minor issue. However, I
do like things to be pronounced correctly and I noticed this morning that
when I'm swiping across the status bar on my iPhone 7, Samantha enhanced is
now pronouncing my Wi-Fi bars as WeeFy. I'm getting this pronunciation even
after adding the correct pronunciation to my custom pronunciation
dictionary. Are others experiencing this and does anyone know why it would
have changed recently?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Are Others Getting a Different Pronunciation of Wi-Fi?

2017-11-12 Thread Alan Lemly
Many thanks for the replies and pointing out that the punctuation setting
affects the pronunciation. I guess my punctuation got inadvertently set to all
although I'm still puzzled why this would affect the pronunciation of a
hyphenated word. Live and learn and I'm glad to get it set and pronouncing
correctly again.
