It's by design. You must also enter your passcode if you have not
unlocked your phone in a 48 hour period.

The default passcode is simple, which is four numbers. You can change this
allowing for a longer numeric passcode. When you hit the power button, you'll
get a standard numeric keypad where you can enter your passcode. As far as I
can tell, once you start entering your code, you can take as long as you want.
I don't know how long the keypad will stay on the screen if you don't start
entering anything.

Hi Marie,

My guess is that 10 characters is the maximum allowed. So when you've typed 10,
your fhone knows you're done.

Re: Passcodes and touch ID

2015-04-14 Thread Marie Lyons
My passcode is letters. Any time you turn the phone off and back on or update
the operating system you have to input your passcode.

The default passcode is simple, which is four numbers. You can change this
allowing for a longer numeric passcode. When you hit the power button, you'll
get a standard numeric keypad where you can enter your passcode. As far as I
can tell, once you start entering your code, you can take as long as you
want. I don't know how long the keypad will stay on the screen if you don't
 start entering anything.

I hate to admit it but I have never put a passcode or fingerprint ID on my

 1. Does the passcode have to be numbers or can it be alpha characters?
2 If the fingerprint ID is enabled I believe you still have to input the
passcode when powering up the unit. Is this true?
3 How much time do you have to enter the passcode?
4 how many characters are required for your passcode?
 Thanks,

Re: Passcodes and touch ID

2015-04-14 Thread Marie Lyons
I don't have to hit enter and my passcode is 10 characters that are letters.
When I decided to use my fingerprint I had to assign a passcode in the event
the fingerprint didn't work. As I had no thought it should be numbers I chose
letters. I figured more characters would make it harder to crack.

 Hi Marie,

You have the option Simple Passcode, which you can turn on or off. If it’s
on, your passcode needs to be 4 numbers. If it’s off, you can use letters
and/or numbers. I don’t remember the minimum and maximum number of characters
you can use. If you use a simple passcode, you’ll enter it, and the phone
will unlock. With the more complex ones, you have to press Enter after typing
it in, since the system doesn’t know how many characters you will enter.

You’re right that you still have to enter your passcode after restarting your
phone. You also have to enter it the first time you buy something in the app
 store after restarting it.

There’s no time limit on entering your passcode, except that if you do
nothing for a few seconds, the screen locks, just as it does if you press the
Home button and do nothing. You can configure the phone so that if you enter
the passcode incorrectly 10 times in a row, the phone wipes your data. This
is meant to deter criminals from trying lots of passwords to get in.

 HTH,
 Anna
