So if someone calls and you have silence calls turned on, where do you find the
phone number Of who called? Will it be in the recent calls list or missed calls
or what will show up if anything?

We not only get some of those scam likely calls on our iphones, but we also get
these calls on our button phones, not our landline. Since we never answer those
calls we don't get as many as we use too. Is there any way to change it or stop
the calls?

I like the way this is implemented on Android somewhat better though and
for that reason I haven’t implemented it on my Iphone although I’d like to.

On Android, it doesn’t block all unknown callers but blocks those that
might have spam characteristics. I had a lot of calls in my recents on that
phone, a few of which were spam. It identified them all correctly.

But I do get some legitimate calls from people I haven’t bothered to add to
my contacts because they don’t call much, usually related to some event I’m
part of or whatever, and they’re definitely not spam. So I feel like this is
too global. Another example of calls I get are from state agencies which mask
their numbers using other numbers. No idea why, it’s totally supid, and I can
recognize them even if they’ve never used that number before, but it makes it
impossible to enter them in your contacts because they never call from the real
number.

On my Android phone, it was able to determine that these weren’t spam, but
if they were, I could make a rule for that and they’d probably all be.

So I hope that Apple will get more sophisticated about this over time
because I like the concept.

I know some have complained loudly and persistently about iOS13, but if it
added nothing but the silence unknown callers, it is completely worth it to me.

I was checking my recent calls list for a completely unrelated issue and
there was a number I did not recognize from another State. It happened at a
time I was using Voice Dream Reader and I had no idea a call had happened.

They didn’t leave a voice mail, so as I do with such things, I blocked the
number.

But, I did not get interrupted, which is fabulous in my book.

I have received an increasing number of robo calls in the last 6 months, so
this is worth any other issues to me.

Just my 2¢ worth.

Richard

Re: Silence Unknown Callers is great!

2019-09-29 Thread Richard Turner
Here is an example of how it was useful last night.
I woke up at 5AM, which is pretty standard for me.
I checked my phone for email, but noticed there was a notification from the
phone app.
I checked, and there was no VoiceMail, but there was a recent call from an
unknown caller at 11:38 PM last night.
It is a function that you can turn on or off fairly easily.
So, when you are not expecting a delivery, you could turn it on.
That is of course up to you.

Richard

Always look out for #1, and be careful not to step in #2.

especially in the early morning hours on both my phone and watch and hope it

How do you turn it on if that is an option? I would think if you are expecting
a ride and concerned that they might call you, you could disable it for that
time.

Hi
It’s supposed to use some form of intelligence to detect calls. If interested,
but hesitant for such calls. Why not give it a shot and if it doesn’t work for
you, you can disable it? If you’re really considering it...

If you put your para transit phone number into your contacts, that call will go

probably will screen it out as a Robo.

I like the way this is implemented on Android somewhat better though and for
that reason I haven’t implemented it on my Iphone although I’d like to.
On Android, it doesn’t block all unknown callers but blocks those that might
have spam characteristics. I had a lot of calls in my recents on that phone, a
few of which were spam. It identified them all correctly.
But I do get some legitimate calls from people I haven’t bothered to add to my
contacts because they don’t call much, usually related to some event I’m part
of or whatever, and they’re definitely not spam. So I feel like this is too
global. Another example of calls I get are from state agencies which mask their
numbers using other numbers. No idea why, it’s totally supid, and I can
recognize them even if they’ve never used that number before, but it makes it
impossible to enter them in your contacts because they never call from the real
number.
On my Android phone, it was able to determine that these weren’t spam, but if
they were, I could make a rule for that and they’d probably all be.
So I hope that Apple will get more sophisticated about this over time because I
like the concept.

The number should still show up in your call history, or couldn’t you get it
from your para transit? Do they call from a bunch of different numbers? That

It goes to Voice Mail. You call them back.

If you enable this, doesn’t it also mean that anyone ringing through an office
switchboard will also be rejected? When clinics or government agencies ring me,
they also appear as unknown caller.

Have you given that kind of detail to apple Accessibility?

I have wanted various kinds of rule settings for a long time. I’d especially
like to create a rule for Emails like you can in Outlook.

I know now I can mute threads kind of, but that isn’t quite the same.

If Apple could do something like what you are describing, that would be
better for sure.

But again, they can leave messages and you can tell from the phone app that
you have received a new call. Unless someone turns off badges for the phone
app.

Our paratransit did this in our old location, but when I added them to my
contacts that problem went away.

My paratransit provider makes a robocall to let you know that the driver has
arrived. This is often flagged as unknown caller. If that call doesn't
come through, I miss my ride.

Probably so, since it cannot know that this one unknown caller is important
and you can't know which numbers to add to your contacts in advance.

That is why it is an option.

In your case, and others, probably not a good thing.

In my case, it is fantastic.

Since they can leave a message I figure I will find out when I touch the
phone icon and it says there are 1, 2, or whatever new items.

I trust everyone is able to make their own choices and will make the one
best for them.

If you enable this, doesn’t it also mean that anyone ringing through an
office switchboard will also be rejected? When clinics or government
agencies ring me, they also appear as unknown caller.

Hi,

I think this is a pretty dangerous idea honestly. What if you have
people relying on you (older parents, children etc) and they lose
their phone or need to make a reverse call because of some sort of
emergency?

I know now I can mute threads kind of, but that isn’t quite the same.

If Apple could do something like what you are describing, that would be better

RE: Silence Unknown Callers is great!

2019-09-28 Thread Deb Cook Lewis

I know some have complained loudly and persistently about iOS13, but if it
added nothing but the silence unknown callers, it is completely worth it to me.

I was checking my recent calls list for a completely unrelated issue and there
was a number I did not recognize from another State. It happened at a time I
was using Voice Dream Reader and I had no idea a call had happened.

They didn’t leave a voice mail, so as I do with such things, I blocked the
number.

But, I did not get interrupted, which is fabulous in my book.

I have received an increasing number of robo calls in the last 6 months, so
this is worth any other issues to me.

Just my 2¢ worth.

2019-09-28 Thread Richard Turner
Probably so, since it cannot know that this one unknown caller is important and
you can't know which numbers to add to your contacts in advance.

That is why it is an option.

In your case, and others, probably not a good thing.

In my case, it is fantastic.

Since they can leave a message I figure I will find out when I touch the phone
icon and it says there are 1, 2, or whatever new items.

I trust everyone is able to make their own choices and will make the one best
for them.

If you enable this, doesn’t it also mean that anyone ringing through an office
switchboard will also be rejected? When clinics or government agencies ring me,
they also appear as unknown caller.

then, they will leave a voicemail.
Half the people don’t answer their phone anyway if they don’t know the number

Re: Silence Unknown Callers is great!

2019-09-28 Thread James English
Hi,

I think this is a pretty dangerous idea honestly. What if you have
people relying on you (older parents, children etc) and they lose
their phone or need to make a reverse call because of some sort of
emergency?

If you enable this, doesn’t it also mean that anyone ringing through an office
switchboard will also be rejected? When clinics or government agencies ring me,
they also appear as unknown caller.

Subject: Silence Unknown Callers is great!

Richard
