It did get my dish washer, I pointed it at myself and it said “human face”.

When I was living with my now ex-wife I used to say I had hands like gold fish,
always in the bowl.

Richard:

Yes, when I first used it, it did very poorly at identifying objects. I just
didn’t know if it had been improved, or not. Obviously, if it hasn’t been
updated in three years, there are surely better apps out there now.

I will have to give Super Sense a try.

Thanks.

RE: Supersense first impressions.

2020-12-23 Thread Richard Turner
I just re-downloaded AIPoly vision.
It thought my sink was a toaster.
My dishwasher it thought was a close dryer.
It kept saying different things for the same object if I held the phone steady
on one thing.
It has not been updated for 3 years and has an in-app purchase of $4.99 for
full access.
Frankly, I wouldn't use it for free.
Object recognition will get better with all these apps I'm sure, but the main
things I would use a scanner for is reading, currency identification, and
product lookup. Especially by barcodes and especially if expiration dates were
included which they do not seem to be in most barcodes, and finding that info
on the label is very difficult.

Everyone should forget about using an iPhone camera for color as it is highly
dependent on lighting and the same color will be reported as widely different
colors depending on the lighting.
You need a dedicated hardware device for colors in my opinion based on many
years of experience.

2020-12-23 Thread Lelia Struve
Hi everyone, I hope you all have a merry Christmas. So I used this app to read
some mail. I also used the Seeing a i app. Now when I say I read mail, I
usually just read the envelopes. The seeing a I app is the one I got better
results from. I am going to try reading barcodes with both apps as well. I will
let you all know what I find out. I did actually open one piece of mail and
again reading the document I got better results with the seeing a i app. I
know that the developers for these apps are on the email list so I want to let
you guys know that I am not at all, saying anything bad about any app. I am
just giving my opinion on my comparisons. I hope you don’t take what I am
saying in a bad way.

Thank you so much for developing these apps.

I did update Seeing AI this morning and it was the update I used.

Strangely enough when I use the stand with Seeing AI it always tells me that
not all edges are visible. I’ve tried adjusting the hight of the stand but

I’ll try and dig out a ruler and have a play.

Incidentally where can you buy the Scanner bin from? I’m in the UK any
information welcome.

Thanks Richard for all your efforts.

2020-12-23 Thread Richard Turner
Yes, Supersense just does its thing when it thinks it is time which is usually
correct, though sometimes jumps the gun, or takes a little longer, see below.

Seeing AI will say hold steady as soon as I put it on the Scanner bin with a
document in the bottom.
Try setting your FOPYDO at 11.5 inches above the document if you happen to have
a tactile ruler handy and see if that works.
That is the height of the scanner bin according to my 54 year old braille
tactile ruler.

Now, I opened Supersense and put it in document mode with the same document in
the Scanner bin. It said move farther away from the document twice before it
went ahead and took the picture.

Both had 100% accuracy with the Scanner bin Packing list which is what I was
using.

Malcolm,

Have you tried the Seeing AI after yesterday's update?

I have just been trying Supersense with my iPhone XR running the latest release
of IOS.

Using the app free hand I was able to obtain excellent results on a single page
document I had printed with my HP laser printer. OCR was accurate and having
followed thee instructions on document placement none of the text on the page
was clipped.

The only apps to come near to Supersense that I tried freehand were Prizmo Go
and Voice Dream Scanner.

Next I used the same document with my iPhone using a Fopydo document stand.
Having setup the stand and placed my iPhone on the document shelf I used a
Bluetooth keyboard to control the iPhone, so as not to disturb it or the
document.

Using Supersense’s Smart Scanning option it detected I was scanning a document
and captured the page. Once again it gave an accurate OCR of the document with
no text clipped.

Voice Dream performed in a similar manner but there were a couple of errors and
some text was clipped.

Prizmo Go too clipped some text.

I tried Seeing AI, KNFB Reader, Envision AI, Prizmo and Prizmo Go.

Out of thee apps Supersense did the best job on the document I used.

This is by no means a scientific result and your findings may differ from mine.
This is just my initial finding.

I shall experiment further with other features of Supersense and compare them
with other apps where appropriate.
