through the sounds to get the sound you prfer. I can't hear Ding all that well

After I upgraded to 16.02 I don’t get my message tone but get the ding tone
that comes with text messages. Also I don’t get voice over reading the
messages but Siri. How can I fix this? The ding tone isn’t loud enough for me
so I don’t hear all of my messages come in especially if my phone is in my
purse.

Thanks for any help.

Hi,
OK, I think you have been bitten by the new layered notification settings which
are not my favorite things.

Open settings, notifications, messages, sound, and select your tone again. Or
try a different tone, then come back and set it to your tone again.
That, in theory, should fix it.
BTW, if you go to the customize notification button at the very bottom, you can
set how many times it repeats the notification before you read your message.
So, if you like to be nagged about reading a message, you can set it to several
repeats, .

RE: Text message question

2022-04-20 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Carriers still break up messages if they're using SMS. Carriers and messaging
apps have gotten better at concatenating long messages, which is why you're not
seeing it anymore.

Here's a good article explaining the situation. It's a bit dated though.
https://joyofandroid.com/android-break-text-messages/

Here's another more current article that says it's still happening, but it
isn't as thorough as the first article.

I don't see carriers breaking up messages these days. I think that applied back
in the CDMA days. It could still be happening, but I don't see it when I text
people or receive texts from Android users. I haven't seen broken up messages
in years.

Re: Text message question

2022-04-20 Thread Gordon
I don't see carriers breaking up messages these days. I think that
applied back in the CDMA days. It could still be happening, but I don't
see it when I text people or receive texts from Android users. I haven't
seen broken up messages in years.

would bet that this should just mostly work, but there may be some clunky
providers or messaging apps that have trouble with this.

I have send as SMS turned on because some of my contacts use Android.
Because of the 140 character limits of text messages, I am wondering whether
all parts of a truncated message will be sent to the recipient or only the
first segment. I should probably mention that I am using IOS 15.4.

Thanks.

Carolyn, I’m not trying to tell you what to do, but it’s so much easier to text
from the messages app than the contacts app. Unfortunately I can’t explain your
problem though.

Yesterday, I texted someone with an Android phone. She got the message.

Problem: Today, I attempted to text to someone with an iPhone. When I text, I
always go into Contacts, rather than starting from Messages. Well, I had the
hardest time getting my message to the iPhone person. But then, it didn’t go to
iPhone. I got a text back from Android saying that somehow a message for
someone else, who had a birthday today, went to her. Finally, I tried again to
text to iPhone, finally, had to just get Siri to do it. She got it, because she
texted back.

RE: Text message question

2021-05-12 Thread Richard Turner
Interesting.
I think the questioner was wondering if they sent a message say to an Android
where they actually limit text message characters if it would be split into
parts or just not complete.

Your SE should have received the whole thing unless the method of sending
restricts to the 140’ish character count.

I’ve sent and received very long messages with someone with another iPhone with
no problems.
The entire message goes through.

Re: Text message question

2021-05-12 Thread Mike B
I just sent my self 2 text messages to my SE 2020 iPhone using the,
@vtext.com, domain from my computer. 1 text message was a little over 800
characters and the 2nd text message was roughly 600 characters.

Neither text message was received in full. Both text messages were around a
144 character count

I copied / pasted the partial message into Word to get the character count.
I'm curious if anyone gets the same results if they send texts using SMS.
Normally I send text messages using MMS when possible.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

RE: Text Message Question

2017-10-31 Thread Kathy Kalaluhi
Hi

Just want to let everyone know that turning on the option in settings to send
message as SMS when Imessage is not available worked. There seems to be a
little delay in receiving the text but I am sure my son will see this as a good
thing when the text is coming from me. Thanks to all who provided me with
solutions. You are all wonderful. So glad I recently joined this group.

Hi Kathy,

One thing you can try is to go to settings, messages, then look for something
that says use SMS when iMessage isn’t available to make sure that it is checked
on.

Hello

I have a question regarding text messages that is somewhat complicated to
describe. I hope I can explain this clearly.

I have an IPhone 7 still using 10.3 or whatever the last update was for IOS 10.
After reading all of these emails from this group, I am holding off until IOS
11 is perfect. Anyway, my son was also using an IPhone and I had him in my
contact list with his mobile number listed as an IPhone. Today, he decided to
go back to using a Samsung Gallexy. He sent me a text message as a test and
asked me to respond. I did and he did not receive the text. I know that in my
settings, I have IMessage turned on. In order for him to receive my text
message, I have to turn it off before sending him a text. However, it is a
pain to have to keep remembering to turn it on and off when sending texts. My
brother does not have a cell phone at all and uses an IPad so I need it to have
it turned on when sending him a text.

I tried to delete his contact card from my contact list and re-enter his
information. It is still showing up as an IPhone. I turned my phone off
completely and added the contact information again and it is still remembering
his phone number as an IPhone.

Meanwhile, he is trying to de-register his phone number from being an IPhone
number through Sprint.

So I guess the question is whether there is a way to make the iPhone forget
that his number used to be an IPhone? It is strange but he was using a Samsung
prior to the IPhone. When he went to using the IPhone, my phone automatically
detected that it was an IPhone and now it seems to not want to forget it.

One other thing I tried was holding down the “send” button to see if I could
send it as a text instead of as an IMessage and it did not show it in the
options that popped up. Only sending with effects appeared in the bubble.

My husband has the same phone as I do which is IPhone 7 and when he tried
turning off IMessage in his settings, none of my texts would go through to his
phone either.

Any thoughts on this would be so much appreciated.

Re: Text Message Question

2017-10-31 Thread Victor Gouveia
I think this may have something to do with the fact that his number is
integrated into so many apps that the iPhone is taking all those apps and
compiling the data incorrectly.

For example, it might be using his phone number under the Face Time app, so it
thinks it’s an iPhone, or Facebook or Twitter apps might have something to do
with it.

I would check the Face Time app first, just to make sure that isn’t the issue.

By the way, have you tried calling Apple support or doing a Google search for
this issue?

  Hi Mike

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

When I deleted the entire contact and re-entered the information back into

turned off my phone off completely and turned it back on before sending a
message to him. It is still showing up as an IPhone in the message app. What
I mean by this is that when you go to messages and select compose,, the box for
the text message appears as IMessage rather than text message. I have only two
other contacts who do not use IPhones and when you go to compose a text to
them, they say text message rather than IMessage.

What I do not get about Apple is how it has a memory like an elephant. When
I hit compose to send a text to my son, and I begin typing his name into the To
field, I get an option to send a text to him along with a sister and a couple
of cousins from a group text we had going about a month ago. Even though I
deleted the group text, it is still appearing when I type his name or my sister
or my couple of cousins into the to field in a text message. I have to be
awfully careful not to pick that as the name I want the message sent. It could
be downright humiliating depending upon who I am complaining about lol. Just

Ok, thanks so much for your suggestion. Hope someone else reads my email and

his android? I think I remember someone on here a while back saying something
about numbers assosiated with iphones had to be wiped or something it'll still
show up as a iphone in reguards to immsage and maybe other apple things like
facetime. but, I forget how people said to fix this. I'm sorry I couldn't be
more helpful but to offer up another reason your sons number is being weird.

  Hi Mike

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

When I deleted the entire contact and re-entered the information back into
contacts, I did select mobile for my son’s phone number. I even closed or
turned off my phone off completely and turned it back on before sending a
message to him.

Just
kidding.

Ok, thanks so much for your suggestion. Hope someone else reads my email and
has more to add. Have a good evening.

  Hi Kathy,

Basically I think what you want to do is change the iPhone label to, Mobile,
instead of iPhone. To do this try the following:

  1. Open your contacts, navigate to your son's entry,, & double tap to select
it.

  2. Navigate to the, Edit, option, & double tap to open it.

  3. Now swipe right to the,iPhone button, & double tap to open it. This is
where you change your son's phone label. Swipe to the, Mobile, option, &
double tap to select it.

  4. Find the, Done, button & double tap it to save your settings & you can
close your contacts.

I'm not 100% sure this is what you need, but if I'm wrong someone will
correct me. I believe you can leave iMessage checked as well.

  Hello

I have a question regarding text messages that is somewhat complicated to

I have an IPhone 7 still using 10.3 or whatever the last update was for IOS

Hello

I have a question regarding text messages that is somewhat complicated to
describe. I hope I can explain this clearly.

I have an IPhone 7 still using 10.3 or whatever the last update was for IOS
10. After reading all of these emails from this group, I am holding off
until IOS 11 is perfect. Anyway, my son was also using an IPhone and I had

he decided to go back to using a Samsung Gallexy. He sent me a text message

I know that in my settings, I have IMessage turned on. In order for him to
receive my text message, I have to turn it off before sending him a text.
However, it is a pain to have to keep remembering to turn it on and off when
sending texts. My brother does not have a cell phone at all and uses an

I tried to delete his contact card from my contact list and re-enter his
information. It is still showing up as an IPhone. I turned my phone off
completely and added the contact information again and it is still
remembering his phone number as an IPhone.

Meanwhile, he is trying to de-register his phone number from being an IPhone
number through Sprint.

So I guess the question is whether there is a way to make the iPhone forget
that his number used to be an IPhone? It is strange but he was using a
Samsung prior to the IPhone. When he went to using the IPhone, my phone
automatically detected that it was an IPhone and now it seems to not want to

One other thing I tried was holding down the “send” button to see if I could

options that popped up. Only sending with effects appeared in the bubble.

Occasionally I receive a text message which I cannot understand. In
such times it be helpful to review the message either word by word or in
some cases character by character. If I flick down, the only two
actions I find are activate and delete. Please tell me step by step how
to review such a message character by character.

Thanks in advance.

Just use the rotor. Select letters, or words, then move up and down by those

When I go into messages, select compose, select to, and then enter the name

of the selected contact; however, I do not see the word message on which I
want to double tap so as to type the body of the text. Instead, the IOS

Conversely, if instead of typing the contact's name in the compose field I

Incidentally, this is an iPhone 4 running IOS 7.1.1. Thanks in advance.

Don, you can also go into contacts. Select a contact and double tap with 1
finger. When that contact entry opens, down toward the bottom of the hole
thing will be buttons. One of which will be send message. See if that's
any easier for you.

website are still available upon request. Thanks for listening!

Subject: Text message question

I feel so foolish asking such a rudimentary question. I am certain that
the problem is a lack of my understanding rather than a software glitch
or technical problem. At any rate, here goes.

My contact list at present has perhaps 30 entries. I have checked each
for accuracy. The problem is present regardless of which contact I select.

When I go into messages, select compose, select to, and then enter the
name of a contact to whom I wish to send a text, I see the name and
phone number of the selected contact; however, I do not see the word
message on which I want to double tap so as to type the body of the
text. Instead, the IOS keyboard shows as if I were wanting to edit the
contact.

Conversely, if instead of typing the contact's name in the compose field
I type the phone number, I then can select the word message so as to
type the body of the text. I wish I had verbalized this better, but
please someone tell me what I am missing. It may be painfully obvious,
but not to me. Incidentally, this is an iPhone 4 running IOS 7.1.1.
Thanks in advance.

Don Roberts
