There's a setting specifically for deciding this. Go into the "Home Scren" area of settings. There, you can choose whether newly downloaded apps are added to your home screens or simply put in the library. Other settings in there let you decide if notification badges are shown in the library as

Hi Morné, I assume you created an Apple Id which would be an email address and a password? I also assume you either have a credit card associated with said Apple Id or that you purchased maybe a gift card so you have a balance which allows you to get paid apps. If so, you can find an app
