Re: query about tap tap see and now ios 7.1.2

2016-03-10 Thread Nadia Mattiazzo
Hi Donna

I can't download the latest version of the program as I have not yet updated to
ios 7.1.2 because so many people who had iphone 4 were having problems with it.
Is anyone using an iphone 4 with ios 7.1.2? I understand it is slower and I am
going to purchase a new phone but in the meantime any advice re updating the
ios software would be really appreciated.

Delete the app from your phone & reinstall. This should give you the current
version of the app. Purchasing photo packages is no longer necessary.

Hi everyone

Firstly, I thought this app was now free. Secondly, when I do go to purchase
another package, the purchase button is dimmed and I can't activate it.

I've also checked and there doesn't appear any update notification in my
apps store.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Digit-Eyes Version 2.1 Problem Under iOS 7.1.2

2014-11-13 Thread Alan Lemly
I know this has already been mentioned but wanted to confirm my problem with
Digit-Eyes version 2.1 under iOS 7.1.2. When executing any of the main four
menu options with this version of the app, it simply closes. Uninstalling it
and reinstalling version 2.0 of Digit-Eyes corrected the problem so it is
clearly an issue with version 2.1. I have written the developers to let them
know about this and hopefully an updated version that runs successfully
under iOS 8.x and 7.x will soon be released.

RE: Apple stops signing iOS 7.1.2, dongrading no longer possible.

2014-09-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Getting the files is not the problem, I have the 7.1.2 firmware file
downloaded. But if you try to install it you have to do so via iTunes and as
part of the process the installation will be verified with Apple's servers.
At that point if they don't sign the firmware any more, the process would
not be ablew to continue and I assume you would get a message telling you
that you can no longer do what you are doing.

I guess there are ways around this, but I sure don't know them and they are
probably beyond most of the people on this list who are interested in
downgrading.

Hello, I am very aware that, but I'm pretty sure he knows how to do the

get banned for possibly breaking a rule so that's why I said anybody that has
any questions, to contact me at the address below or if you are interested and
yes I am aware of having to verify through Apple servers and then possibly
rejecting the file but the way he talked, he has ways around it. Thank you very
much, and you have a wonderful day.

iPhone or iPad or whatever you have since you will need to know. I have a GSM
iPhone 5S which is version A1533, but if you are on Sprint or Verizon it
might be a different model, I am not exactly sure which carrier uses which
model in the States as I am in Canada. I am pretty sure that an ATT iPhone
5S is also model A1533. You can find out either by getting somebody to look
at the baclk of yourt device, the model number is engraved there. If you want
to find out by yourself go to Settings, General and About. Note down the last
3 or 4 digits/characters of your phone’s serial number. Now go to
http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup and type the last 3 characters of
the serial number in the edit field, then find the results and the model
number will be listed there. If it doesn’t work with 3 characters try it with
 4. The model numbers all start with a letter followed by 4 numbers, e.g.
 A1533.

Once you have located the correct IPSW file to download, save it do your
Downloads folder or wherever you can find it again. When the download is done
(iOS 7.1.2 is almost 1.5 Gb) you have to extract it by right clicking on it
and select “Extract All”. In the folder which will show up you will find the
actual IPSW file which is called as follows:

 iPhone6,1_7.1.2_11D257_Restore.IPSW

You won’t of course see the extension since most likely you will have “Hide
extensions for known file types” set to On.

Anyhow, now connect your phone to iTunes, go to Restore and press Shift+Enter
on it. In the open dialogue, browse to the IPSW file and open it, from there
 everything will proceed as normal.

If you have done a backup under iOS 8 I can’t guaranty that it will restore
perfectly, I would probably recommend to set up as a new phone and start from
 scratch,.

RE: Downloading iOS 7.1.2 firmware, was: IOS8!!!

2014-09-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can leave it, but there is a bigger chance that if you rename a file you
might accidently delete or rename the extension and then the file wouldn't
be recognized by its application any more. If, for example, you accidently
deleted the f at the end of a .pdf extension, Adobe would not recognize
that file any more. There is not often any reason why you need to see the
actual extension so its safer to hide them.

Why would you have to go back and change the Hide extensions? Could you just
leave it so you can read all extension.

Hi Pablo,

I am posting this to the list, but also CC you privately in case you miss
it.

You can download the latest iOS 7 device software file from the following
address:

http://IPSWDownloader.com

The site is called IPSWDownloader because the extension of an Apple Device
Software file is .IPSW.

There are 3 combo boxes on that page, just use the c quick nav key to jump
to the first one which is for Device. Here you can pick iPhone, iPad,
iPod Touch etc. If you want to download iOS 7.1.2 for you riPhone, select
iPhone, then go on to the next box to select your model. If you want the
file for an iPhone 5S from ATT, then select 5S GSM. If your iPhone is
from Verizon I believe you need the 5S Global option. Lastly, select the
version of iOS you want to download. Keep in mind that even though you can
download older versions, you can only use the one you have, e.g. if you are
on iOS 7.1.1 you can't download and restore to version iOS 6. Once you are
done making those 3 selections, find where it says Download Firmware 7.1.2
(11D257) for iPhone 5S (GSM which is a bit further down and which is also
read as a heading level 4 and not as a link or a button. I found that in
Internet Explorer 11 I had to rout e the Jaws to the PC cursor and then do a
left click on that in order to start the download since enter didn't seem to
work. In any case, once I did that I was asked if I wanted to Open or
Save the file, definitely you need to save it.

The .IPSW file which you are saving is a large file (about 1.43 Gb in the
case of iOS 7.1.2) which contains everything you need. Now read the next few
comments/steps carefully because otherwise you won't get anywhere:

1. If you use Windows, the file will show up as a compressed file with a
.zip extension. Do not under any circumstances extract the archive!

2. If you have set your Folder Preferences to Hide Extensions from known
File Types, turn this off by going to the ffolder where you saved the file,
then click on the Tools menu and on Folder Options. Do A Control+Tab to
go to the View tab. Tab twice to get into the treeview and towards the
bottom find where it says Hide Extensions for known file types, On and
turn it off by pressing the spacebar. Now tab to OK and activate it. I can
get there quickly by pressing page down once I'm in the treeview, then
pressing the down arrow just once puts me in the right place.

3. Now you will see the full file name with the extension and it should be
like this:

iPhone6,1_7.1.2_11D257_Restore.zip

4. Delete the zip extension and change it to IPSW. The file name should
read like this:

iPhone6,1_7.1.2_11D257_Restore.ipsw

Once you do and press enter, you get the following warning:

Rename
If you change a file name extension, the file might become unusable.
Are you sure you want to change it?
Yes No

Activate the Yes button.

5. Go back to Tools and Folder Options, press Control+Tab, then tab
twice to get into the treeview, go back to Hide extensions for known file
types and turn it back on, tab to OK and activate it.

6. If you now review the file including the size and file type, Windows
should say it is a Apple Device Software Update File.

7. Now if you had to do a restore, you would connect your phone to iTunes,
go to the device section and tab to the Restore button. Instead of
activating it simply by pressing the spacebar or enter, you would hold the
shift key and then press enter. This will open a standard Windows open file
dialogue. Simply browse to the .IPSW file (I would make sure it's downloaded
to your local hard drive and that it is not on a USB stick or external
drive) and after selecting the file press enter on the Open button. From
here on the restore proceeds normally.

Of course if you have more than one device, e.g. you have an iPhone 5S and
an iPad Mini, you would have to download the appropriate IPSW file for each
device.

Yes, and it is really a bad idea to try and upgrade on the 17th as soon as
iOS 8 shows up as an update. All of you who tried to listen to the live
stream today, what was your experience? It was anything but good and
upgrading as part of the first rush will probably be the same and you are
asking for problems. I would wait at least 3 or 4 days if you want a smooth
and problem free experience and don't forget to make a backup before, then
force quit all apps and at least shut down

Hi Mark,

Bluetooth is turned on by default on any version of iOS 7, this is true if
you upgrade or do a factory reset and has been so since iOS 7.0 was
released.

Yes, this is now the default setting. It is for those with disabilities who
require switch access for accessing their iOS devices. Unlike you, if Bluetooth
is accidentally switched off, they cannot get it turned back on without

Switch Control was Re: Beware Bluetooth Upon Updateing to iOS 7.1.2

2014-07-01 Thread Christopher Hallsworth
Heard of this Switch Control and sounds very fascinating. I don't think
we as VO users can use it though. It's designed for severely motor
impaired users who need special ways to access an iOS device, a switch
device being one of them. Obviously these devices require bluetooth so
this needs to remain on for them to work.

Re: Switch Control was Re: Beware Bluetooth Upon Updateing to iOS 7.1.2

2014-07-01 Thread Teresa Cochran
Well, I turn on my Bluetooth display about 90% of the time, so I didn't even
notice. That is a great point about the switch devices. It makes me wonder
about how often sighted folks think about turning VO on and off with
triple-click-home. Icertainly don't see signs of Apple flagging on
accessibility features as some have charged. Quite the opposite. :)

Yes, this is now the default setting. It is for those with disabilities who
require switch access for accessing their iOS devices. Unlike you, if
Bluetooth is accidentally switched off, they cannot get it turned back on
without assistance. It is far easier for you to turn Bluetooth off again.

Re: Switch Control was Re: Beware Bluetooth Upon Updateing to iOS 7.1.2

2014-07-01 Thread David Chittenden
Switch control cannot be activated until a Bluetooth switch device has been
paired with the iOS device. Switch control causes a scanning box to move from
one item to the next on the screen. When the correct item is highlighted, the
user taps the switch which activates the highlighted item. When the highlight
is not moving, tapping the switch starts the highlight. I set switch control up
for a blind person with severe CP. A head switch was used. An iPad was mounted
to the wheelchair. A basic communication board app was loaded and locked on the
iPad. The person uses the switch to control what the iPad says so he can ask
for what he wants and basically communicate how he is feeling.

For those with higher cognitive functioning, switch control can control all of
the functioning of the iOS device. As I said before, access is typically rather
slow.

Heard of this Switch Control and sounds very fascinating. I don't think we
as VO users can use it though. It's designed for severely motor impaired
users who need special ways to access an iOS device, a switch device being
one of them. Obviously these devices require bluetooth so this needs to
remain on for them to work.

RE: iOs 7.1.2

2014-06-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mike,

I am actually curious as to how people know that the microphone stays on. I
believe it's the speaker and not the microphone since if you put the bottom
right corner to your ear after dictating you can hear a small hissing noise,
but that of course is the speaker side and not the microphone side. I do
agree hat this goes away if you use SIRI to ask anything and then lock the
phone and that if you use dictation and then not use SIRI afterwards, the
hiss continues apparently indefinitely after you lock the phone. However, as
I said, this is the speaker and not the microphone and I really don't know
of a method to tell if the microphone stays on.
I also have tried to test this by having everything the same, i.e. all apps
removed from the app switcher, then I use dictation at say 11 PM at night
and I then lock the phone and don't touch it until 7 AM. I had WiFi and
Bluetooth turned on. The next evening I did exactly the same, but after
using dictation I used SIRI and made sure that slight hiss stopped after I
locked the phone. Once again I did this at 11 PM and did not use the phone
until 7 AM. Maybe there are other variables, but I did not notice a
significant difference after using SIRI to make sure that hiss stopped.
Lastly, has anybody reported this to Apple accessibility and received a
useful answer?

Regards,
Sieghard
