Model S won again one car prize. This time it was an international green car
prize, not much competition there! The Jury commented:

"The Tesla Model S has wowed the world's press, and for good reason: It's a car
from a startup maker that actually competes on its merits with vehicles from
established global players. The Model S is fast and stylish, its high-end
models offer more range than any other electric car, and thus far, it appears
to be well-built and selling well. Now that it's in volume production, it can
be argued that it is already the world's most alluring green car that's also
practical and desirable."
"There have only been two pure electric cars with a sensible range, and both
have been made by Tesla. Its Roadster would go at least 180 miles and the Model
S a lot further than that. It also seats up to seven, is almost supercar swift,
swoopily styled and recharge time apart and absurd width apart as practical as
a family sedan. It's not cheap, but certainly isn't expensive for what it does."

Given your headline to your post, I don't doubt that 'Elon' will
go go go if you can help.

But looking at the Tesla, or any electric car, more objectively,
makes me think they are either for rich people who can use them as
toys ($100k for the top of the line Tesla) or for people like me
and my wife, who rarely drive more than 75k in a day (Chevy Volt,
Prius?).

I liked the bit, below, about dispensing with 'amenities' like a
heater. Imagine paying 100k but not being able to use a heater; you
would just have to have the chauffeur following you around in the
BMW to save you when the juice ran out and the cold began to seep
in.

I don't know when I have seen such a large PR campaign for such a
useless machine.

2012 Tesla Model S
In its top trim, which incidentally costs about $100K, it is a real
joy to driveHowever, its efficiency, at 38 kilowatt-hours per
100 miles, is the worst of the lot. Think of it as a
performance-oriented electron guzzler.

“That 200 mile stretch between Newark, Del. and Milford, Conn.,
seems needlessly sweat-inducing,” Valdes-Dapena said after his test
 drive

Test drivers of the Model S have been kind enough to
lend their car’s telemetry data to the Web via Twitter, but some
of the data we’re seeing is indicative of the prime complaint
among users: Distress about the car’s range

In his review,
Broder said he dispensed with “battery draining amenities” like
keeping up with traffic and heating his car in the cold winter
weather.

His $17 stock is pushing $40.

As several articles mention, GM mostly had the correct ingredients but did
not adequately couple the wimpy ICE to the electric motor so that they could
provide cumulative performance.

So the Volt is a slow-poke - by far the worst performing $40,000 car ever.
Even a few tree-huggers, and all of the Sierra Club, like to have a bit of
obscene power when they need it.

All the "S" needs, to become an icon like the "T" (besides the obvious: the
3:1 improved "bettery" which may happen this year) is a auxiliary unit to
trickle charge the betteries overnight ... something like the 1.5 kW unit
promised this year.

http://www.blacklightpower.com/technology/ciht-cell/

...never mind that the promise-maker (Randy Mills) has more broken promises
than a three-term Congressman (from either party). Will this be Mills' year
to finally make amends, or will someone else steal his thunder?

The Tesla S, at its present rate of sales (500/week) is outpacing the

This is remarkable in many ways. The Tesla S is not only a faster, larger
and better made vehicle than the Volt, the cost gap between the two is
dropping. As one observers to recent comparative testing between sez:
