Hello All
I have just returned from a month's cruising and 5 days in China - with mixed
results using my brand new iPad. (5 countries,11 ports so no sim card).
Downloading photos/videos from 2 new cameras ( a Canon Powershot G12 and a
Nikon D7000) at the end of each day was great and enabled
I have just given my sister an iBook. She lives in Esperance.
Is there a Mac-friendly ISP in Esperance or someone on the list who
can help my completely computer-illiterate sister get connected with
a USB modem connection?
TIA

Hi Kevin
I have a nephew in Esperance but he runs a PC. He uses bigpond - so help

Well it looks like a wifi iPad can actually get a GPS fix form an iPhone 4 when
connected to the phone's personal hotspot.

This does significantly reduce the disadvantages of going for the wifi-only
iPad.
In my case though, apart from
Hello Kevin,
Your sister could try neal.IT - as a former resident of Esperance I remember
they're the only ones in town who deal with Apple products. This may have
changed since I left but I think it's the best help locally available. There
is, unfortunately, a severe shortage of decent IT
So does this mean this only works with a iphone 4, I can see no way to connect
my ipad via Bluetooth to my iphone 3gs? Am I missing something?

Hi Hugh,
The personal hot spot is a new feature in iOS 4.3 and is turned on it Settings.
If you do not see the feature you may need to sync with iTunes and let it
upgrade iOS.

Unfortunately Apple has only implemented wifi sharing on the iPhone 4. The 3GS
is limited to just Bluetooth and USB sharing as in the past (even with iOS 4.3)
neither of which works with an iPad.
You would have to jailbreak your iPhone 3GS to do wifi sharing and I have no
idea whether the GPS

Hi Mart,
I have successfully had my iPad connected to a hot spot set up on my iPhone 3GS
running iOS 4.3. From memory I used a bluetooth connection.
Incidentally, in my opinion jailbreaking is not a good idea unless you do it
for second phone that you don't rely on.

Hi Marlene,
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm with Westnet and I've found the best
way to handle emails is to log onto webmail (for Westnet that is

without having to down load them, delete the ones I do not
I would be interested to hear how you did it as I can't get either my ipad or
my iphone 3gs to recognize either when blue tooth turns on? Have you added some
app to your ipad?

You are quite right Carlo, looks like a new feature of iOS 4.3 on the iPad is
that it now supports Bluetooth tethering from older iPhones like the 3GS and
even the 3G:
Hugh, here are some nice detailed instructions how to do it here in Australia

Hi Morgan,
If it’s a MacBook Pro it won’t run OS 9.
Glenn wants an old computer that can still run OS 9

I have spent many years learning how to best use Adobe products such as
Photoshop to produce useful colour images. With the advent of reasonable
digital cameras more and more Mac users are starting to manipulate their own
photos. If you are one of those persons, and use any Adobe apps such as
