I seem to recall that there was a post some time ago on changing the iCal
default alert time but I cant find any reference to it in the archive.
The default time is is set at 9am but I would rather it be 7am. Can anyone
remind me of how this is done please!

Have you had a look inside to see if the pictures are in tact.
Right click the iPhoto Library Show Package Content. There should be a
folder called Originals or in Aperture its called Masters the photos should
be in there. From there you should be able to drag/copy the folder out
