jiggle the plug in a certain way and apply a bit of pressure. I'm pretty
sure the problem is with the laptop and not the adapter
if you are sure it's the power book, then resoldering the socket
should be possible, it's morehow to take it apart James

I have my beloved old G3 iMac free to go to a good home. No charge
but thanks to all the WAMUg people who helped me with my new one.
It has the discs for OS8.5 and also for Norton's Utilities as well as
a scanner. Both OK but no good on an Intel model + odds and ends

I don't think I need to keep my old (original) G3 OS 8.6 any
longer, but I have some things on it (about 1.2 Gbyte)
Could I transfer files directly and safely just by linking them via a
USB cable, or should I use a ZIP (ie slowly) to transfer them. Or any
other suggestions?

What about linking them by firewire cable, setting up one of the
computers as a target disk and transferring that way.

Hi all,
I've got one that's surplus to requirements.
350mhz, i think it has a 40 gig drive and 256mb of ram - the OS may be
installed, but I haven't switched it on in at least 12 months.
$100 or so if anyone is interested?
Thanks,
geoff
Just in case if anybody's wondering if they might have a belated
shot at the freebie giveaway BW G3's I posted yesterday - they
grew wings and flew away.
the G3 Beige is however still earth bound and available (to clarify
this one DOES have keyboard mouse and 17 1710 AV monitor_
I have 3 G3 Macs, 1 beige Pizza box G3 and 2 G3 BW towers free

storage but have not been fired up in over 3 years.

Thanks to all that replied about my problems with getting an old Blue
G3 tower on Optus broadband. I will be following all leads this
weekend, and I'll let you know how it goes.

A friend of mine has a blue G3 happily (well, almost happily) running
OS 10.2.0. Everything is going great except we can't get it to use the
DSL modem that Optusnet supplied.
We have troubleshot the whole house and can now get our laptop running
10.4.2 to use the modem
Found a G3 iMac on the local streetside collection. It isn't in
working condition and the case has a visible crack top/side, but may
be useful to someone for parts.
Pretty sure this is the one: http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/

Free if you want

If the G3 is getting an IP address from the modem using DHCP you will see
this in the network preference in system preferences. It should be
192.168.xxx.xxx. If it is 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then it's not getting an IP
address. You can check by pinging the modem using the Network Utility
Thanks to all who responded ... iMac has a new home and mission in life!
