iiNet address & WAMUG

2014-02-11 Thread Laura Webb
Thanks to those who responded to my many test messages this morning.

After an hour session with iiNet yesterday and more than 2 hours today, the
problem of not receiving WAMUG emails still remains a mystery.

The only way to reinstate receiving posts from the List (and to receive copies
of any of my postings) was to change the email address being used. My iiNet
address simply does not work any more for that purpose. So a change to one of
my iCloud addresses solved the problem.

The technician was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems, whether
perhaps at some stage WAMUG might have been unintentionally blocked. Hardly
seems likely but there is no plausible reason why the messages suddenly stopped
reaching me after 30 January.

This problem is not dissimilar to something experienced about 12 months ago
with emails from Ice TV no longer being received. Exhaustive testing at that
time failed to find the problem and in the end I just gave up, it was all too
hard, and the particular emails were not that important. I do now receive those
emails but only to my iCloud address.

Fingers crossed that this is the end of the matter.

Laura

Thank you Ronni.
Maybe I gave my email as the rescue address.
I will check that.
If not can a rescue address still be added or will we still have the same issue
logging in to do that ?

Re: Security questions for Apple ID ?

2014-02-11 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Stephen,
Rescue email address and how to reset Apple ID security questions
If you can't recall your Apple ID security questions and answers, the optional
rescue email provides a way to reset them. Additionally, all future
security-related emails for your Apple ID will be sent to the rescue email
address.

When creating a new Apple ID for use with the iTunes Store or Mac App Store,
you will be asked to provide an optional rescue email address. If you have an
existing Apple ID that you use with the iTunes Store or Mac App Store, you may
be asked to provide some additional security information, including a rescue
email address. When you provide a rescue email address, all future security
emails, such as password resets from iForgot, will be sent to the address
provided. The rescue email address you provide cannot be the same as your
primary email address for your Apple ID. In most cases, your primary email
address is the same as your Apple ID username.

Re: Security questions for Apple ID ?

2014-02-11 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Stephen

Try logging in to appleid.apple.com and then Manage Apple ID.
You "may" be able to adjust the security questions from there.
Short of that, you can call Apple Support and they generally will help you
"adjust" those questions. (Apple are 133-622).
But only someone with access to the AppleID (when it was created or used) can
actually add those questions, they can't just be added themselves.
(they can also be case sensitive as well).

A good "Secure Note" in Keychain Access is a good place to put those
question/answer things, locked away with a password. As a lot of people do set
them up then never use them for months/years.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards
Daniel

Security questions for Apple ID ?

2014-02-11 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi folks,

My grand daughter tried to log in to the App Store to make a purchase a few
nights ago.
She has no credit card so she depends upon gift vouchers being redeemed.
On this occasion she was asked to answer 2 security questions.
She tells me she has never set up security questions and therefore does not
know the answers.

Is there any way around this ?
I tried to renew the questions but Apple does not seem to allow this.
Forgetting a password can be resolved but it appears not this.

Eventually I decided to set her up with a new Apple ID.
However it would not allow this because her email is “already being used for
another Apple ID".

The only way around this seems to be to set her up with a new email address
with Westnet.
Then create a new Apple ID.
Then adjust her settings in her Apple Mail account.
Then let all her contacts know her new email address.

Does anyone know of a simpler solution please ?

Stephen Chape

Hi Walter,

Weird... very weird! What else can we suggest without physically seeing your
computer and system setup?
Do you have any Third-Party software installed?

Have you tried starting up in Safe Mode?

To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
Disconnect any external device connected to your computer.

1. Shut down your computer
2. Press the power button.
3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone
but not before.
4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator
(looks like a spinning gear).

Safe Mode is much slower to boot and run than normal.
Test Console.app while in Safe Mode - Try to open Console.app and see if the
"Show Log List" button will work when in Safe Mode.

After testing, reboot as usual (i.e. not in safe mode) and then test the
Console.app.
Post back the results of your test in Safe Mode and then again in normal mode.

Cheers,
Ronni

I don’t use Pages very often, but recently I had a need to convert an .rtfd to
a .pdf. The latest version of Pages, 5.0.1, can not open the .rtfd (greyed out)

Fortunately for me, the older version remains on my system on a different hard
