Fwd: Attachments

Hi
I used to use a software for mail attachments called  ‘Attachment Tamer’ which 
used to insert an attachment as for example a pdf file, however since upgrading 
to El Capitan, it no longer works, as the software writer has decided not to 
continue upgrading it with each new OS. When I now attach a document, it is 
opened up showing the contents.  When sending numerous attachments ie drawings 
etc, it becomes a complete mess for the other person who receives the email.  
Is there anyway I could attach documents with just their icon showing - eg a 
pdf file ?

2. Copy and paste the below path into the resulting Go to the folder: window

 /Users/bill/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads

3. Then hit Go

It was just a one click quick route to the mail downloads that Daniel installed 
for me.   

I just tried opt+ the GO and found the Mail alias and another folder called 
Mail but nothing in that relating to downloads.

However, the Opt with Go is the only way I can get there.

Why do you have an alias of the Mail Downloads folder on your Desktop?

It is your Home User Library (which is hidden) and The Path is correct:

 /Users/bill/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail Downloads

Just press and hold the “option/alt” key, and you can choose 
“Go to Library” in the Go menu of the Finder

Cannot find original folder for Mail downloads

I wanted to find the original folder for Mail Downloads  ( I have an alias on 
my Desktop)

I tried searching = nothing found.

I then did a Command +i   and got the pathway:

Original:  /Users/bill/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Mail 
Downloads

There is no “library” no “containers” etc.

Not sure what is happening here, but Mail and related things like Contacts 
still play up.

Any help welcome.

Thanks for this Ronni, there is a bit of reading to do to digest all that. 

Before I had even spoken to Apple Support, the decision to update my Apple ID 
password was made and reinforced by your indication to do this - I hadn't 
chosen to ignore the advice. I had some family events and busy work periods 
which meant the issue of resolving my daughters Messages issue laid dormant for 
a few FIFO swings. As I work away, I have very limited windows where I can do 
things like this and I have to be at the family home as 13 devices affected - 
making this change with me away would send the house into meltdown. When I 
tried to actually do the update of the password, I couldn't, I ended up in a 
loop which was seemingly preventing me from doing the update. I would log in 
with my original Apple ID credentials which were acknowledged, and would get a 
blank panel (which later was corrected with Apple support help) where the 
update opportunity would subsequently present itself. It may have looked from 
the outside like I was ignoring, but your always accurate advice was certainly 
taken on board when it was provided. I merely used Apple Support to get me out 
of the loop I was in - which they we're able to do for me.

I am inclined towards moving to Family Sharing and with your comprehensive 
notes will be closer than I was prior to the email of yours.

Thanks for that Neil, the writer seems to be user who has a heavy use of cloud 
based data storage. I am not and this is a legacy of pre-cloud data storage 
days. I accept that cloud storage gives a level of data security that local 
hard disc/Time Capsule backups don't have (in the event of theft/fire etc) but 
for the moment that's what I have and am happy with the triple redundancy I 
have currently across numerous storage discs. 

The other aspect he was noting is the Photo storage cross family use-ability. 
This aspect is also not one I have moved into. I am happy with my 'own' Photos 
library and wife, kids etc theirs too even if this results in some duplication 
of storage and backup - the data storage space is relatively cheap. We can 
still share between us using the "Family" share album facility and achieve what 
we need there with the standard 5GB for all of us.

He does however lead me to believe Family Sharing is still in its infancy and 
has some way to go. 

Whilst the current configuration I have is not perfect, I think from reading 
this, moving to a Family Sharing environment will also be not perfect even 
though the reported issues in the link story are not issues that matter to me 
at all.

Your Child’s Password

Your child’s account password, like any iCloud account password, must meet 
Apple’s minimum requirements—“at least eight characters, a number, an uppercase 
letter, and a lowercase letter.” Normally I would suggest making passwords 
stronger than the minimum.

However, in the case of a password for a very young child— consider keeping it 
on the simpler side. That’s because the child will need to enter the password 
in order to Use Ask to Buy—and if your child has to pester you to look up and 
enter a long, complex password every time he wants to download a game, that 
defeats part of the purpose of Ask to Buy in the first place, in that the child 
can’t complete the process independently of the parent. On the flip side, the 
presence of Ask to Buy (assuming you have it enabled) reduces the security risk 
of a less-strong password.

Share Calendar and Reminders
Each participating family member automatically has a Family calendar added to 
Calendar (on OS X and iOS, and in the Calendar Web app) and a Family reminder 
list added to Reminders. So, any events or reminders you assign to Family will 
appear for all family members.

But what if you already had a shared family calendar (whether or not it was 
called “Family”)? That calendar will still exist alongside the new one. If you 
want to switch over to the new Family calendar without losing all the events in 
your old family

 Sounds like Apple wants you to update your password to a more secure
 password and add Œtwo-factor authentication' if you haven¹t already.

 Are you sure your daughter¹s email is working on her iPad and that iMessage

Hi all, I did eventually get this resolved. I had to take the plunge and update 
my Apple ID password - ugghhh. Anyway, it was relatively simple and without 
complications. As soon as I made the change - all my kids came to me holding 
their respective devices saying “Dad, I have to update the password, what do I 
do”! This was expected and simply resolved by entering the password. It happens 
a few times on each device for various reasons, app purchasing, Find my iPhone 
and some other things too much to remember. 

However, I still have my entire family (13 devices in aggregate) with one 
AppleID which causes a level of workarounds with some iOS features to avoid 
overlap of data. 

I am still wondering if I should take the plunge to move the other 4 family 
members to their own Apple ID - and set them up as Family Shared members under 
me as the Organiser. 

Has anyone got any first hand advice on this question and any reason why I 
should or should not migrate to a Family Shared environment?
