Re: RANT WARNING! iiNet NBN

2019-02-17 Thread Stephen Chape
Struth Michael !
My ADSL2 speed is about 11/0.9 so that is pretty poor for NBN.

I am pretty happy with my ADSL2 speed and don’t really need NBN.
But looks like we don’t get to choose when the time comes.

The deal with Telstra was done in Dec 2017 and the change over date

The modem arrived in early-January and I immediately replaced my existing
ADSL modem with the new VDSL modem, configured it for my existing Westnet

On the 19 Feb, as promised, NBN Co opened the node (big box on the curb)
around the corner and switched switched us over.
Only later that day when I thought to check the speed did I realised that
we were now on the Telstra service using the NBN and getting 15 times the

Our iPrimus experience in Doubleview, about 200 m from the node, has been
atrocious with download speeds of 0.10Mbps. Not at peak times, I hasten to add.
That “speed” was a 5:56AM. After we complained the download speed went up to
35.5Mbps but as I write this it is down to 11.0 with an upload speed of 0.91.

Re: Camera

2019-02-17 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi Bill, here is a link to a an Apple site which gives an idea of how to check
for your Nikon D3200. It is for a previous version of the operating system, but
will be roughly the same method of using Disk Utility to see if either the SD
card or the camera shows up when connected to your MacBook Air.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7393940

Older cameras used a different protocol for connection to computers, but I
imagine that you will have already updated the protocol on the camera for the
previous system and that would be the same for Mojave. You are instructing your
camera to be viewable as a HD.

However, there is no earthly reason for the MacBook Air to not recognise the
files on your SD card reader. I did a quick google search and connecting older
cameras may be a problem, but there should be no problem with loading any
camera files from an SD card reader. This is speaking as an enthusiast
photographer who has used lots of different cameras. I always use an SD card
reader.

If you don’t have a problem with your USB cord and the USB port on your MacBook
Air has been working fine for everything else, the only other problem might be
a slightly corrupted SD card. In other words, try a different SD card in the
reader.

Cheers, Susan.

That has given me great confidence in the Telstra move to NBN.
Thank you Robin.

I moved reluctantly from Westnet to Telstra 9 years ago when I moved house.
I had been very satisfied with Westnet until I moved house.
But Westnet could not offer me high speed ADSL at the time and Telstra could.
Something to do with the local Phone Sub Station ?
In fact it was Westnet that suggested I should move to Telstra (which surprised
me at the time).

Anyway I have had the most wonderful experience with Telstra since then.
I have rarely had to contact them with an issue.
But when I have they have been very helpful, quick and efficient.

On the other hand, my step daughter is with Westnet.
She has me as a contact on her Westnet account because she is not very “tech
savvy”.
During the past couple of years I have had the most horrendous dealings with
Westnet on her behalf.
I dread each time she has a Westnet issue and asks me to resolve it for her.

I have tried to talk her into going Telstra to make my life easier, but she is
not keen on change.

I have to say I cannot speak highly enough of Telstra.

Sorry - smoke coming out of my ears
I guess this is the sad result of a great WA company being taken over by
 TPG
I have been a loyal iiNet customer for 25 years

15 days ago I signed up with iiNet to switch from iiNet Broadband to iiNet
 NBN
After numerous stuff-ups, being on hold for 20 - 40 minutes at a time, not
receiving promised call-backs, receiving a call-back yesterday FIVE hours
after requesting one etc I am still not connected to the NBN.

Finally my hardware arrived on Friday afternoon.
I connected it as instructed on Saturday - guess what? It doesn’t work.
Finally have been told today that it can’t proceed as iiNet are waiting
for my connection request to be lodged with NBN.CO
I asked the caller whose job was that - she replied -“iinet’s”
 Not satisfactory?

Don’t worry sir it should all be taken care of in the next 2 to 3 days.
And don’t disconnect anything in the meantime
So now I wait for up to another 3 days with no Internet (as i had to
 disconnect my existing Broadband.

 Far-Out

Re: LAN

2019-02-17 Thread Severin Crisp
Ronni, it is absolutely brilliant. After a trip home today to install Team
Viewer and get the ID and pw, on return here I was in and cross connected in
about 60secs!

Re: RANT WARNING! iiNet NBN

2019-02-17 Thread Robin Belford
Switching to NBN -
Here in Busselton, after 24 years with Westnet, with the disconnection of the
analogue phone service imminent I signed up with Telstra for an NBN internet
service.
This consolidated all our fixed and mobile phones and now our internet with one
provider.
(I did start with Westnet, but they were unable to give any coherent service
offerings or timings and I moved on.)
The deal with Telstra was done in Dec 2017 and the change over date scheduled
for 19 Feb 2018.
The modem arrived in early-January and I immediately replaced my existing ADSL
modem with the new VDSL modem, configured it for my existing Westnet account,
and continued as usual.
On the 19 Feb, as promised, NBN Co opened the node (big box on the curb) around
the corner and switched switched us over.
Only later that day when I thought to check the speed did I realised that we
were now on the Telstra service using the NBN and getting 15 times the previous
download speed.
In a word - seamless!
It’s been working flawlessly ever since.
That’s the country life for you.

ymmv.

Regards

Robin
