Re: Download photos from Samsung Galaxy phone to iMac

2018-05-17 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Alan

Yes, makes me appreciate my iPhone even more when I see the way some of the
things “work” with the other phones lol. And I’d much rather have a secure App
store any day…lol.

Yes,…no more Airport. If want anything like that (or even a spare) ,..best get
them now. I have a new sealed 2TB Time Machine stored away,…just for that
reason. :) I notice wholesalers are getting low on a lot of them as well. Once
it’s gone, that’s it. Another good product goes the way of the dodo
unfortunately. :( Apple Thunderbolt monitor, Time Capsule, and so on ,…..

Kind regards
Daniel

Hi Daniel

I found references to bluetooth data transfer during my (google!) browser
search but it seemed to be a more complex way of doing it, so I didn’t go into
details. And I never did a search through the 1,234,567 apps on the google

Did you also try or see if it has something similar to the iPhone where you
have to “Activate” the bluetooth to connect it “pair” it, so it’s recognised as
a “Secure device”. I think from memory there was a way to do this so you had to

The Galaxy A7 has not got a SIM card and has only been used as a camera in
recent months. Most phone “features" have been turned off.

I’ve installed Android File Transfer (AFT) app vers 1.0.11 (64 bit) but
get the message “Could not connect to device”. This app is suggested in
the Apple Support KB article HT205063 which provides a link to the Android
 website for downloading.

The Samsung website recommendation is to use either the AFT app or Samsung
Smart Switch. I downloaded the SSS app vers 4.1.1 but macOS gives an
alert that the app is “not optimised”. This app is 32 bit and didn’t work
 either.

I did not install the app. After accepting Google Play T&C to proceed to the
download of Airmore, there was another list of Google conditions - essentially
free access to any data it wants. It did not say if this access was limited to
the Android device, or included the iMac. Too much spyware!

I can access the photo files from the micro SD card. Reluctant to do this on a
regular basis as handling the micro card with my macro fingers is sure to lead
to trouble. The card holds other data apart from photos, so I don’t want to

BTW I manually deleted the Android File Transfer app plus associated

probably more somewhere.

Re: Download photos from Samsung Galaxy phone to iMac

2018-05-15 Thread Alan Smith
Hi Ronni

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check out the details over the next few days.

My copy of the user manual for the original Android os (Marshmallow) explained
how to do data backups to a Mac via usb - and even use Image Capture for photo
imports. This feature was completely removed in the next upgrade (Nougat).
So my web searches for assistance were not sufficiently focussed to have any
meaning. It is possible that the “recommended” data transfer apps I tried
yesterday only work with Marshmallow or older systems.

While I left the Galaxy switched on and connected to WiFi overnight, it
downloaded the latest operating system (Oreo) which I installed. Three
different operating systems in 12 months! I’ve kind of lost interest in outer
space and Galaxies - and prefer something more down to earth like Apples.

I may have a last-ditch option. Photo data should be stored on a removable
micro SD card.

Cheers
Alan

Download photos from Samsung Galaxy phone to iMac

2018-05-15 Thread Alan Smith
I cannot transfer photos from a 2017 Samsung Galaxy A7 mobile phone to my late
2012 iMac. This is the first attempt at downloading, so I don’t know if it is
High Sierra thing.

Any ideas for resolving the problem?

The Galaxy A7 has not got a SIM card and has only been used as a camera in
recent months. Most phone “features" have been turned off.

I’ve installed Android File Transfer (AFT) app vers 1.0.11 (64 bit) but get the
message “Could not connect to device”. This app is suggested in the Apple
Support KB article HT205063 which provides a link to the Android website for
downloading.

The Samsung website recommendation is to use either the AFT app or Samsung
Smart Switch. I downloaded the SSS app vers 4.1.1 but macOS gives an alert
that the app is “not optimised”. This app is 32 bit and didn’t work either.

Cheers
