I heard on the local evening news this evening that Earle Hagen passed away
on Monday. What a musical talent! I'm sure he's accompanying Barney on
good ol' 14A!

My husband and I have been watching the set of Horatio Hornblower dvds from the
library. It is an interesting historical dramatic series. But whenever Horatio
found himself in a "situation," ( a situation, that's what we've got!!) I found
that I couldn't help but say "Poor Horatio."

As we mourn the passing of Earle Hagen, it's interesting that we never heard
his own words spoken. But we have Earle's music of Mayberry, Camp Henderson
and many others in our hearts. I hope I speak for many when I say that a
fitting tribute would be that his procession be whistled. The echo

we're all oh so greatful that he made our favorite show even more memorable

goings on..." In "Man In a Hurry," a healthy chunk of Maude and Cora's very
funny phone conversation is gone, and in "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs," I didn't hear
Barney's classic punchline "Boy, giraffes are selfish!"

Andy constantly uses a phrase that I have never heard anywhere else -"That's
a time." He says it when he is happy about something or proud of somebody.

It is sad for all of us Mayberryites over Monday's passing of Earle
Hagen, composer of the theme music for The Andy Griffith Show, Gomer Pyle
U.S.M.C., Mayberry R.F.D., and many other TV shows.
I had the privilege with three other Mayberry fans -- Mike Creech, Joel
Rasmussen and Randy Shield
Earle H. Hagen, the man who composed the theme song and did the
whistling on
"The Andy Griffith Show" died Monday, he was 88.
I heard the news this morning on the way into work and I started to try
and whistle
