Eric,
Thanks for the info on Herb! I wonder about the other, uncredited, musicians
who played incidental and 'bit pieces' on TAGS, as well - the rest of the band
that plays with Jim Lindsay when he's in prison (the bass/rhythm and horns)
isn't too shabby, either! :-)
Then on the composer side,
Oh, Ken, I agree 100%! I grew up in the 60's and also remember the safety and
security of my small town. I raised my girls in that same area in the 80's and
they had some of the electronal marvels but still had the benefits of playing
outdoors without threat of danger from some interloper.
All this additional info on Herb Eliis has got me intrigued and possibly

Dear Sweet Friends,
I love all the facts pouring out about our friend James Best and the great
music that came from his guitar. But let's give credit where it really belongs.

my own living

I concur, that's what Earle told me a number of years ago.
James Best likes to tell the story of his TAGS audition. They asked if he
could play the guitar, and he
I recently got a Dean Martin CD, and he sings Santa Lucia. As soon as I Heard
It, I thought of Barney's version. I Looked It Up, and I didn't realize that
It'd been around since the mid 1800's. J.D.

It was not Herb Ellis making all those wonderful guitar sounds. Any TAGS
fan knows it was Briscoe Darling. Did you forget he can get guitar sounds,
banjo sounds, just about any musical sound outta that jug? He's a one-man
showcase! A litle bird told me he was the one doing the woodwinds,
