I bought my '65 Ford Squad car because of authenticity. Before I bought it
I would walk in parades with my uniform on. I put a flashing red light on
my wife's head and she would walk ahead of me yelling
E,
Bee, I was in Mt.Airy in late June and went to Wally's Fillin Station for a
squad car tour of town. They had five squad cars and each was a Ford. I think
they ranged from 1961-65. We toured with Melvin in the '64 and had a great
time. Hit the siren a couple of times to. I hope
Just heard this morning from a friend (and Mayberry fan) that a friend of
his just drove thru Mt. Airy and instead of the Ford squad cars, he claims
they are using '57 Chevys as squad cars in Mt. Airy. Not that a '57 Chevy is
a bad car, just not what was used in Mayberry. Anyone know
I have received a number of emails asking where one can see the TV Mayberry
interview with me and my car. I have put it on YouTube so you can view it at

My nephew sent me a picture of another Mayberry squad car he
I think we've probably beat this horse to death concerning the do's don'ts
of displaying the red light, sheriff signs etc. I have a SC State Trooper in
my church that says I'm a great deterent when I'm cruising in my 1961 Ford
Fairlane. He said people have a tendency to slow down.
I wouldn't
Could be Mayberry Squad Cars in North Carolina get away with having red
lights on them is because NC police use blue lights. Red lights are for fire
engines and EMS and a Mayberry car does not resemble either of them!!
That's my story and I'm a'stickin' with 'er!!
Weford theCameraNu
was doing was buying a soda and candy bar. So I'd be careful
driving a non-official looking vehicle around these parts of the country. How
do the squad cars get away with it at Mayberry Days? I suppose Mt. Airy Police
turns a blind eye for the festival.

Bob,
I and another contributor to the Internet Movie Car Database now have all eight
of the squad cars on that site, 1960-67, and identified.? He contributed the
'63 and '64 and I chipped in the rest.
Here's what we have, according the info contributed by the site's regulars:

I am not so sure of that idea of feeling secure when squad cars are in the

' like
the idea of squad cars being visible in neighborhoods, etc. as a crime
deterrent, although I wouldn't condone the officer's family members using
them.

Anyway, as long as it's a 4-door Ford 1960-1968 with the proper markings
(black white, sheriffs logos, police light, etc.) it's close enough for most
Mayberry fans.

As far as my post yesterday on the 1958 Ford Fairlaine. There is some
discussion now that they were Ford Galaxies. Does anyone know for sure
what was used on the show?
It was usually the baseline
