Andy Griffth/Star Trek

2006-01-13 Thread Brandon A. Cowles
I was watching the TOS Star Trek I believe the episode was the City on the
Edge of Forever. Kirk, Spock, and McCoy go back to the 1930s I think it was. I
saw a buggy being pulled by a horse that reminded me of the milk man's buggy
and horse on the Andy Griffth show where Opie promised to take care of the milk
man's horse for the time he was away. The horse didnt eat because he wasnt
working. Do you think this could have been the same buggy and quite possibly
the same horse?Thanks, BrandonBrownsville, KY

My family and friends often ask me why a fifty-nine year old retired teacher
spends so much time watching a corny old
television show like the Andy Griffith Show. They want to know what I see
that they don?t. So I tell them:

Gift of Mayberry

2006-01-13 Thread Teresa Horstman
Hidee!

Haven't checked in for a bit, but I just had to share this. I recently fell
ill, and one of the things that saved my sanity was my TAGS DVD collection. Now
that I'm better, I realize just how much being able to go to Mayberry helped me
out. We all know Mayberry's a great place to have fun for a spell, but it can
sometimes even be a little bit more. Being able to visit with my Mayberry
friends truly helped my recovery, especially since I was alone most of the
time. And how special that we have this online community to share our love
with! It's extry-good!

Why we watch TAGS

2006-01-13 Thread DallmanGarry
I just read Mr. Anderson's moving story about why he watches TAGS. He
mentioned that the show brought back so many beautiful memories from his own
similar childhood. I guess I grew up across the tracks from Mr. Anderson at a
time and a place that was the polar opposite of his town. In my neighborhood
abandoned or burned-out buildings were our playground. Instead of Foley's, we
had
Danny's, complete with barred windows and security gate. Instead of crickets
chirping, we heard cries in the night, and we were taught that when we heard
gunfire we were to hit the ground and hope. In my town little Leon's gun would
have been real. We had fun girls in our town, too, but the wrong kind. There
were no little boys or little girls in our townwe were all forced to
become men and women when our ages were still in the single digits. That world
is
miles away from where I am now, but the battle scars (literally) remain. And
that is exactly why I watch TAGS. Andy and company give me a daily dose of what
can be, so I can temporarily forget what was. So, Mr. Anderson, I'm very
jealous of your upbringingand very happy for you, too. We come from
different
worlds, but we're both neighbors in Mayberry.

SHOW ME AROUND THINGS AND WHATS GOIN ON Hey James, just hang on and jump
in when you can. Around here people are free to comment, or to loiter around

I don't want to start a cat moulauge, but the Miss Otis story reminded me of
my childhood pet cat Sally. I never saw her dance, but she did hide out
sometimes. She and her siblings were in my Grandparents barn and we at first
thought she was a male. We took her home and after bathing her discovered she
was a girl who had a piece of chewing gum stuck to her fur - pretty cleaver
disguise.

Barney's hat

2006-01-13 Thread Rod Sadler
Greetings everyone,
I happened to be in a uniform store the other day and you are not going to
believe what I foundyou are just not going to believe it. Go on, guess.

I came across a cache of old, Mayberry police hats. Yes, its true. They are
identical to Barney's. I took everything they had, which was only about a
dozen. I've always wanted one to add to my collection. I'll have to
eventually get a badge made for the front, but rest assured, these are the real
thing.

I would like to make the remaining stock available to WBMUTBB chapter
members. Again, there were only about a dozen in varying sizes, but what a
collectible to put on a shelf.

If anyone is interested in possibly purchasing one from me, please contact me
off-line at [EMAIL PROTECTED] . I will forward you a picture first so you can
see it.

Lots'a luck to you and yers

I REALLY LOVE THE DOWN HOME FLAVOR OF THIS MAILING LIST

2006-01-13 Thread Karla Nurnberg
Dear Listers,
Kenneth's Letter reminded me of my husband's stories about his little
hometown of East Nassau, New York. Of course, I had my own stories about my
hometown of Ashton, Idaho. I miss the fountain drinks from the Teton Pharmacy.
There were several personal items in the drug store that you had to ask the
Pharmacist to get for you, which could prove embarrassing to a shy young girl.
What about the smells of your hometown stores, especially the drug store?
We did not have a bakery, so that was one that I do not have a memory for. A
few years ago, we stopped at the other drug store in Ashton, the City Drug, but
their fountain drinks did not seem to taste the same, as they used to.
I am a people watcher, so whenever my Mom left me in the car I would
entertain myself by watching, whoever went by on the street. One time my older
sister's crush went by and I hollered out to him that my sister loved him. He
was the banker's son and we were just farmers, but good ones.
Boys had their guns in their pickups, which were parked in the high
school parking lot. The teachers did not worry about that. Girls did not fight
each other. Basketball Games were fun to attend, because every girl could
belong to the Pep Club. However, I wish that they would have had what was known
in my children's middle school, as TLC. This included getting to take a section
of Keyboard, Home Ec and Shop for both boys and girls during the school year.
Debbie Caruso, it is possible that those two actresses might be related to
each other somehow. When I visited the Family History Library in Salt Lake,
they had a large pedigree on the wall, with photos of Mitt Romney, Bill Clinton
and George W. Bush and their ancestry and all three of those men have shared
ancestry. Another pedigree that they had on display was that of Harry Morgan,
one of my favorite Mash characters.
Some of us have snow stories about our small towns. Since Ashton is only
60 miles south of West Yellowstone, we used to get a lot of snow and a lot of
really brr cold weather. My children would laugh at me, whenever I told about
the huge drifts, etc. One time the four of us had to check into the hotel for a
few days, because we were snowed into town. My older brother called Mom and she
gave him the go-ahead to charge a dress for my younger sister and I at Story
and Meese's Department Store. He bought them to match our eyes, brown and green.
Thanks to the person, who started this list.
  Karla

I think of Mayberry whenever I walk my dog to our coffee shop and tie
