Hey Wilbur, I understand your frustration and disappointment concerning our WBMUTBB site. It's tough when things change and we can't or are unable... I personally enjoy the new FB page page, as I always had trouble posting to this site. For some reason, probably due to my lack of computer skills, everything I sent seem to show up weird, so I just quit posting here. I hope you can find some when to connect with us on FB. And your vet page too. As always, "here's to you and yours", Brenda ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

TV Segment
Hubby and I watched the Ted Koppel special, and though I agree with Rick concerning the political infusion, I didn't think the show overall was too bad. Of course, I didn't think it was too good either... Mr. Koppel is obviously not a huge fan, and that right there says a lot. If you didn't watch the show during the years it was on, you won't grasp the impact it had on America during the '60's. I know there will be some folks watching the Mayberry special who just don't "get it", but there will be many more who will, and with a visit to Mt. Airy will grasp something that makes the world a little better, Brenda ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Thoughts...
Ken, I sure enjoyed your ponderings of your childhood and TAGS... I grew up in the mountains of West Virginia, with my parents watching Andy, Aunt Bee, Barney and the rest of the TAGS characters, and like you I have fond memories of a hard but happy childhood, with many similarities to Mayberry. I know that is one of the many reasons that I love the show so much - it touches my heart from those times of yesterday - such as Dad and I trying to peel apples without breaking the skin, while sitting on a summer porch overlooking those beautiful hills... Brenda (aka Mayberry's Party Girl) ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Dan Ridge
Dan, Hubby and I watched that movie too, and was surprised how many TAGS alumni were in it... Brenda (AKA "Mayberry's Party Girl") ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Cringe Worthy
I grew up in a little town in West Virginia very much like Mayberry... We ran and played all day over those hills, with our parents many times not knowing where we were. We played in the river, put pennies on the train rails for the coal trucks to run over, and we got our rear-ends whipped many times for disobeying. I did NOT grow up warped for being unsupervised or spanked. I grew up with good manners, respect for adults, well adjusted, and with great memories! My personal thoughts is that a lot of problems we face in this country today with the newer generations is the lack of solid and common-sense parenting. We need more wood sheds! Easter Lamb
Thelma Anderson, I'm so pleased that you used the French Dressing tip, and found it to be a good one! Lamb is a great Easter meal! Sure beats possum or hoot owl... Best of luck to you and yours, Brenda ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Leg of Lamb
Janet, My folks were from West Virginia, and my mother-in-law was from Virginia, and both ate a lot of lamb growing up. I'm sure it's a regional thing, and since NC, VA. and WV have lots of ancestral connections, I'm not surprised that it's mentioned in the show. I'd be willing to be that Andy ate lamb growing up, or knew folks who did... Brenda ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/
Leg of Lamb
Aunt Bee of Orlando, While I was growing up my mom wouldn't cook leg of lamb, because it was a staple when she was little and she grew to dislike it. But my mother-in-law loved leg of lamb, cooked the best I ever ate! Her secret: a 1/2 bottle of French Salad Dressing poured over it before it went into the oven, and the other 1/2 bottle poured over it half-way through the roasting. SERIOUSLY, best lamb you'll eat! Lamb is a 'gamey' meat, and many folks don't like the smell while cooking, and sometimes after cooking. The French Dressing covers the smell during the baking, makes it's really tender but doesn't change the taste at all. Good luck to you and yours this Easter, Brenda ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.wbmutbb.com/

Maybe I'll get an answer the second time around, cause this is really prayin' on my mind. Janet, So glad to hear that you can let your hair down with the family. I can too! Enjoying my flippies as we speak! As for bare feet: how about the one where Andy and Barney go to the lake/pond with their dates and play in the water. Of course, it was okay, as the girls have brothers... Did more geo-caching today. Or the time the Darling's were hiding in the vacant store and could be heard fiddlin' all over town? Or the time the State Police rolled into town with upteen squad cars? Or the time Gomer chased Barney around the street and yelling Citizens arrest!? Or the time Barney accidentally caught a criminal and knocked rolled him to the ground? There's more that I just can't put my finger on right now, and I know that they aren't REAL noisy situations but they still caused a ruckus in our quiet Mayberry... Thanks...
I'm one more person saying a BIG, really BIG thanks Allen for keeping our sweet little corner of the world - Mayberry like! I may not post a lot but I read my Mayberry family's stories, thoughts, questions, and more every digest I get, and it brings me joy, tears and much laughter. So to keep it free of non-Mayberry spam is a good thing to do... Billy Ray
Billy Ray also played the preacher who married Charlene and Dud in Mountain Wedding. That man was so good at what he did for a living, I forget everytime that he played other parts/persons in other episodes. It's a real tribute to his acting abilities! This and That
My hubby and I rented The Ladies Man with Jerry Lewis... First, Karyn Kupcinet who was in the above movie, is not our Hannah Carter. Of course, we now know that even better now, from our own detective Janet. Why to go! Second, hubby and I spotted right off the bat, that many of the town scenes was our favorite hometown Mayberrry. I never knew that Jerry Lewis was from Mayberry. Wonder if he was discovered by Bobby Fleet? I need help...
I need help!! I'm trying to remember a particular episode but can't think of it for the life of me... It's the one that begins with a woman coming into the courthouse to talk with Andy about something or other, and ends up discussing her sister who has big/buck teeth and was called the Beaver by other kids... I thought it was the one with the female speeder but it's not. But I just know some member of WBMUTBB can lead me to the right episode! Emma/Cheerio
While surfing the internet, I came upon the following article concerning a Josef Hoffman Meridith. I would assume that this our Cheerio's real-life son. Strange that no mention of a child/children or a spouse is mentioned for her anywhere, even her obit. Curious, curious, curious... Brenda Jo MEREDITH, Josef Hoffman , 1920 MO - 2007 CA. JOSEF HOFFMAN MEREDITH Age 87, passed from us Tuesday morning, July 3, 2007at his home in Burbank. Born in Kansas City, Missouri on January 11, 1920 to Conde Thompson Mosley and Cheerio Meredith. He grew up in Hollywood, California and graduated from Hollywood High School where he was Head Cheerleader. He went on to perform on the high aerial trapeze with the Flying Alexanders and trained as an Olympic Gymnast candidate but was drafted into the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was head of the Park and Curry Company garage in Yosemite National Park. In the late 1950's he formed J.H. Meredith Company, which relocated to Burbank in 1962. Professional activities included being involved since 1956 in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, teaching Machine Shop Technology at Los Angeles Trade Tech, and working to promote the Machinist Apprenticeship Program in California. As a member of the Manufacturing Engineering Advisory Team at California State Polytechnic University at Pomona, his work led to the establishment of a 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering. Joe was a 32 degree life member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Mariposa Lodge #24 and Noble with the Al Malaikah Shriners. For many years at Christmas time he would rent a Santa Claus suit and deliver presents to his family and the children of his friends. Joe certainly had a charismatic personality and people were very important to him. Wherever he went, he'd almost always run into an old friend or he'd make a new one. Throughout his life he was an avid car buff, and owned a variety of exotic and collectable cars, most of which had more power than he needed, and none of which had as much as he wanted. Those who knew him really well appreciate how much of his life revolved around his love for the automobile. He is survived by his loving family that includes, daughter, Bonnie M. Wood; sons, Dennis and Stuart Meredith; grandchildren, Holly, Heidi, Justice, Savannah, Lindsay, and Brandon; and great grandchildren, Ruby, Aria, Dutch and Svea. Visitation will be held, Friday, July 13, 2007, from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., at Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Memorial Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills, CA 90068. Funeral services will be held there in the Church of the Hills on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. Published in the Los Angeles Daily News on 7/11/2007. ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://wbmutbb.com/mailman/listinfo/wbmutbb_wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/

In the Comedy genre, I'd add to the line-up: Burns Allen F-Troop Topper Dick Van Dyke Ozzie Harriett Bewitched December Bride WKRP In Cinninnati and The Muppett Show! In the Drama genre, I'd add to the line-up: Mission Impossible The Fugitive Perry Mason Dragnet Twilight Zone and The Avengers! And in the Western genre, I'd add to the line-up: Maverick Wagon Train Death Valley Days Rawhide and Rifleman! (I had a thing for Johnny Crawford) Wow, to just think about seeing those old shows, makes my heart beat faster! The show I associate most with the town of Mayberry setting is the TV show, The Real McCoys. It was the predecessor to TAGS and many other country shows. Another Mayberry moment...
Well,,, we bought a new car, and was trying to make that new-fangled homelink thingy work. No matter what the instructions said, and how well we followed them, my hubby could not make it work. Example: push the remote for the left garage door and the right garage door went up, or push the homelink button in the new car and BOTH doors would go up or down! Finally after two hours of work (yes, my man has a tenacious strike) I started saying, Call the man, call the man!! Well...he did. After 5 minutes on the phone with the garage door company, he was able to get them all to work just great! Lesson: just go straight to the man! Will save a lot of heartaches... Hi Everyone, While at a quilting class today ( I need to get ready for those cold whistlin' winter winds), one of the woman in class was talking about her daughter and the state fair. She said her daughter didn't do as well this year as last year in the horse showing arena, as her horse was just being uncooperative. When she said that Horses can sometimes be mean, I said Yelp, just like giraffes can be selfish. Well,,,everyone looked at me as if I had just popped out a second head! Ken, I grow up like you but in a small West Virginia town, and roamed all over the place. Us kid's lived for summer in those mountains cause it was as close to heaven as you could get! I'd give everything in this world (except my loved ones) to go back and taste that pure enjoyment of those days. How truely blessed we were and never even knew it... Mr. Schwamp
Enough is enough! You all have had this poor soul being everything but a mass murder for the mafia! It's got to stop! Bless his heart I know for a fact that he was an accountant for the county and never married. After his father's passing, and upon his mother becoming incapacitated, he retired from his job to care for her (he didn't need to work, as there was family money). As she was wheel-chaired bound, she doesn't get out much. Mr. Schwamp's sister (a Mrs. Schwoop, who lives in Mt. Pilot and married Silas Schwoop) comes and helps often, which allows him to get out for social events, church, and other functions. I also know that at one time, he and Miss Rosemary were very serious (this was after Miss Rosemary and Barney were splitsville) and marriage was discussed. His mother, whom Mr. Schwamp takes his looks after and has a heart of gold, encouraged them to marry, but the couple deemed it best to forgo their relationship. So sad, as I think they would have made very cute little schwampies... I also know that Mr. Schwamp is still alive (nearing 92 about now), is in good health and lives at a lovely senior center in Raleigh. His sister's children and grandchildren visit him often and bring much joy to his later years... So,,,enough about this dear soul. Stop these wild fabrications about him and give him the respect he deserves. After all, a man who can wear a rug as good as he can deserves our upmost kindness! John Canfield for sure! Aunt Bee may have been smalltown, but she was a classy act. No dead beats (Henry), or two-faced backstabbers (Roger), or self-centered blow hards (Hubert), or a ciggy- lipped ash-covered gossiper (Fred), and under no circumstances would it have been a wife cheatin' egg man (Orville)! Oh,,, and the good reverend? Nope, she would have got tired really quick of being a preacher's wife, what with perfection being expected of her. Weddings and Such...
Well,,, I put my bucket on my head, and for the life of me, can only come up with the following: Charlene Dud, Mrs. Mendlebright her purse-snatching beau, Howard Millie, Howard's mother, and the daughter of Aunt Bee's friend... Bedtime here in Indiana. Grabbing my feather pillow and going to bed. Sure hope that cousin of mine from Lake Charles doesn't keep me awake! Songs
And don't forget my second favorite song (first favorite is Charlene's singing of There is a Time), a duet by Andy and Barney that was sung to Otis upon his demise. The tear-jerker We Shall Meet But We Shall Miss Him I'm goin' for a tissue now, but I just have something in my eye... Yes,,,he was a hoot! Played a weirdo but was a hoot! I kept waiting for him to offer Earl a bite of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Sure would have been neat if they'd sneaked that in the script someway... Barney Thelma Lou
A scene that always really tickle's my funny bone, is the one about Barney and the choir. Andy and Thelma Lou are in the courthouse talking about Barney's singing ability's. Andy says a line and Thelma Lou keeps saying but he can't sing!!. When my hubby and I are in church or somewhere else where some poor untalented soul is trying to sing, we look at each other, and whisper but he can't sing!! Life is just full of Mayberry moments, and I thank God for them...
