Hey Wilbur,

I understand your frustration and disappointment concerning our
WBMUTBB site.
It's tough when things change and we can't or are unable...

I personally enjoy the new FB page page, as I always had trouble posting to
this site.
For some reason, probably due to my lack of computer skills, everything I
sent seem
to show up weird, so I just quit posting here.

I hope you can find some when to connect with us on FB. And your vet page
too.

TV Segment

2021-09-19 Thread Brearry
Hubby and I watched the Ted Koppel special, and though I agree with Rick
concerning the political infusion,
I didn't think the show overall was too bad. Of course, I didn't think it
was too good either...

Mr. Koppel is obviously not a huge fan, and that right there says a lot.
If you didn't watch the show during the years it was on,
you won't grasp the impact it had on America during the '60's.

I know there will be some folks watching the Mayberry special who just
don't "get it", but there will be many more who will, and
with a visit to Mt. Airy will grasp something that makes the world a little
better,

Thoughts...

2021-08-03 Thread Brearry
Ken,

I sure enjoyed your ponderings of your childhood and TAGS...

I grew up in the mountains of West Virginia, with my parents watching Andy,
Aunt Bee, Barney and the rest of the TAGS characters,
and like you I have fond memories of a hard but happy childhood, with many
similarities to Mayberry.

I know that is one of the many reasons that I love the show so much - it
touches my heart from those times of yesterday - such as Dad
and I trying to peel apples without breaking the skin, while sitting on a
summer porch overlooking those beautiful hills...

Cringe Worthy

2021-07-22 Thread Brearry
I grew up in a little town in West Virginia very much like Mayberry...

We ran and played all day over those hills, with our parents many times not
knowing where we were.

We played in the river, put pennies on the train rails for the coal trucks
to run over, and we got our rear-ends whipped many times for disobeying.

I did NOT grow up warped for being unsupervised or spanked. I grew up with
good manners, respect for adults, well adjusted, and with great memories!

My personal thoughts is that a lot of problems we face in this country
today with the newer generations is the lack of solid and common-sense
parenting.

We need more wood sheds!

Leg of Lamb

2020-04-12 Thread Brearry
Janet,

My folks were from West Virginia, and my mother-in-law was from Virginia,
and both ate a lot of lamb growing up.

I'm sure it's a regional thing, and since NC, VA. and WV have lots of
ancestral connections, I'm not surprised that it's mentioned in the show.

I'd be willing to be that Andy ate lamb growing up, or knew folks who did...

Leg of Lamb

2020-04-09 Thread Brearry
Aunt Bee of Orlando,

While I was growing up my mom wouldn't cook leg of lamb, because it was a
staple when she was little and she grew to dislike it.

But my mother-in-law loved leg of lamb, cooked the best I ever ate!

Her secret: a 1/2 bottle of French Salad Dressing poured over it before it
went into the oven, and the other 1/2 bottle poured over it half-way
through the roasting. SERIOUSLY, best lamb you'll eat!

Lamb is a 'gamey' meat, and many folks don't like the smell while cooking,
and sometimes after cooking. The French Dressing covers the smell during
the baking, makes it's really tender but doesn't change the taste at all.

Good luck to you and yours this Easter,

Though I liked all of Andy's female friends/girlfriends, and grew to

Some of the expressions that Hubby and I use in our everyday lives are

great!

* I'm going to Nashville!   (anytime we are annoyed with ourselves)

* It's big - really big!    (when we want to get our point across)

* Let me guide you to the land of rythem and pleasure.    ( to a hamburger

* It's prayin' on my mind, Pa    (when something needs be discussed )

* I come from a long line of hearty-eatin' men and beautiful delicate women.

 Hi Everyone,

My hubby (Barney) and I (Thelma Lou) have taken up geo caching.
We are using our love of TAGS while doing it, by signing the Log

searching this weekend in eastern Kentucky, we meet yet another
TAGS fan.  Ain't it great that our beloved show is still a favorite of

If any of you are geocacher's - let me know.  Maybe we can find a

Or the time the State Police rolled into town with upteen squad cars?

Or the time Gomer chased Barney around the street and yelling Citizens

Or the time Barney accidentally caught a criminal and knocked rolled him to

There's more that I just can't put my finger on right now, and I know that

My Dream TV Land Line-Up...

2007-12-23 Thread Brearry
Weenie Man,

I like your TV picks! Your my kind of man!

If I could have my dream-team TV Land Line-Up, I'd
choose many that you picked too, such as:

  The Andy Griffin Show
The Real McCoys
Father Knows Best
Donna Reed Show
I Love Lucy
  M*A*S*H

BUT,,, I would also add some others that I juuussst love...

In the Comedy genre, I'd add to the line-up:

  Burns Allen
  F-Troop
  Topper
  Dick Van Dyke
  Ozzie Harriett
  Bewitched
  December Bride
  WKRP In Cinninnati
  and The Muppett Show!

In the Drama genre, I'd add to the line-up:

  Mission Impossible
  The Fugitive
  Perry Mason
  Dragnet
  Twilight Zone
  and The Avengers!

And in the Western genre, I'd add to the line-up:

  Maverick
  Wagon Train
  Death Valley Days
  Rawhide
and Rifleman! (I had a thing for Johnny Crawford)

Wow, to just think about seeing those old shows, makes
my heart beat faster! Oh, wait, that may be that third cup
of coffee and a big chocolate bar that I had (chuckle)...

Seruously, it probably is a good thing that they really don't
show great old shows like the ones listed above, cause I'd
live in front of the TV!

Be that as it may, if anyone from TV Land is reading this,
FORGET ABOUT MAD ABOUT YOU AND SUCH, AND
GET TO SOME REALLY GOOD PROGRAMMING!!

well we followed them, my hubby could not make it work. Example:
push the remote for the left garage door and the right garage door went
up, or push the homelink button in the new car and BOTH doors would
   go up or down!

Finally after two hours of work (yes, my man has a tenacious strike)
I started saying, Call the man, call the man!! Well...he did. After 5
minutes on the phone with the garage door company, he was able to
get them all to work just great!

Lesson: just go straight to the man! Will save a lot of heartaches...

Indiana Get-Together

2007-09-25 Thread Brearry
Hi Everyone,

Last winter we had a Get-Together here in central Indiana with Indiana TAGS
fans.
We met at the Mayberry Cafe in Danville, IN for lunch and then over to my
house
for dessert. It was a lot of fun, lets do it again!

So for all of you Indiana TAGS members of the WBMUTBB chapter who want to
come or return again, please e-m mail me off-list, and we'll go from there.
I'm
thinking of the dates of Oct.27th or Nov.1st. Both dates are Saturday...

  Bye for now,

2007-08-09 Thread Brearry
Hi Everyone,

While at a quilting class today ( I need to get ready for those cold
whistlin' winter winds),
one of the woman in class was talking about her daughter and the state fair.
She said
her daughter didn't do as well this year as last year in the horse showing
arena, as her
horse was just being uncooperative. When she said that Horses can sometimes
be
mean, I said Yelp, just like giraffes can be selfish. Well,,,everyone

2007-07-31 Thread Brearry
Ken,

I grow up like you but in a small West Virginia town, and roamed all over the
place. Us
kid's lived for summer in those mountains cause it was as close to heaven as
you could
get! I'd give everything in this world (except my loved ones) to go back and
taste that pure

Mr. Schwamp

2007-07-18 Thread Brearry
Enough is enough! You all have had this poor soul being everything but a mass
murder for
the mafia! It's got to stop! Bless his heart

I know for a fact that he was an accountant for the county and never married.
After his father's passing, and upon his mother becoming incapacitated, he
retired from his job to care for her (he didn't need to work, as there was
family money). As she was wheel-chaired bound, she doesn't get out much. Mr.
Schwamp's sister (a Mrs. Schwoop, who lives in Mt. Pilot and married Silas
Schwoop) comes and helps often, which allows him to get out for social events,
church, and other functions.

I also know that at one time, he and Miss Rosemary were very serious (this
was after Miss Rosemary and Barney were splitsville) and marriage was
discussed. His mother, whom Mr.
Schwamp takes his looks after and has a heart of gold, encouraged them to
marry, but the couple deemed it best to forgo their relationship. So sad, as I
think they would have made
  very cute little schwampies...

I also know that Mr. Schwamp is still alive (nearing 92 about now), is in
good health and lives at a lovely senior center in Raleigh. His sister's
children and grandchildren visit him
often and bring much joy to his later years...

So,,,enough about this dear soul. Stop these wild fabrications about him and
give him the
respect he deserves. After all, a man who can wear a rug as good as he can
deserves
  our upmost kindness!

A Mayberry Moment

2007-07-14 Thread Brearry
Me and the Hubby drove into town this morning (Danville, IN) to the Farmers
Market. Bought some freshly picked cuc's and new taters. Grabbed us a bench
across from the Mayberry Cafe. We knew that Andy and Barney were there getting
a bite of something for the squad car was there. We sat a long spell, enjoying
a beautiful summer morning but they never came out. Guess they were busy
chattin' with Olive...

Later,,, lunch was those potato's with a cucumber salad. Probably wasn't as
good as Aunt Bee would fix, but filled us up pretty good...

John Canfield for sure! Aunt Bee may have been
smalltown, but she was a classy act. No dead
beats (Henry), or two-faced backstabbers (Roger),
or self-centered blow hards (Hubert), or a ciggy-
lipped ash-covered gossiper (Fred), and under no
circumstances would it have been a wife cheatin'

Nope, she would have got tired really quick of
being a preacher's wife, what with perfection
being expected of her. Cause after all, Aunt

Barney Thelma Lou

2006-03-28 Thread Brearry
A scene that always really tickle's my funny bone, is the one
about Barney and the choir. Andy and Thelma Lou are in the
courthouse talking about Barney's singing ability's. Andy says
a line and Thelma Lou keeps saying but he can't sing!!. When
my hubby and I are in church or somewhere else where some
poor untalented soul is trying to sing, we look at each other, and
  whisper but he can't sing!!

Life is just full of Mayberry moments, and I thank God for them...
