The word skoal is a very Scandinavian word that is said as a toast before
taking a drink. My father came from Sweden and his common drink was a shot
of whiskey with a beer chaser. If others were present he would always say
skoal before taking the drink.

someone a drink. If memory serves, he adds that the folks back home say it all

Being a second generation Swedish American I am very familiar with the word
skoal. When I visited relatives in Sweden we were told that whenever we
were served wine or any other such beverage the custom was to look at
everyone at the table and raise your glass to them and say skoal. Only

I don't think it's spelled that-a-way, but I don't know how to spell it
either. It's the Russian (I think) version of 'bottoms up', cheers, here's
