The word skoal is a very Scandinavian word that is said as a toast before taking a drink. My father came from Sweden and his common drink was a shot of whiskey with a beer chaser. If others were present he would always say skoal before taking the drink. When my wife and I were in Sweden

Gomer uses the word skoal in one episode of Gomer Pyle - USMC when he serves someone a drink. If memory serves, he adds that the folks back home say it all the time. I guess they only say it when nobody is around, because we hear the word uttered only that one time out of all 249 TAGS episodes
