I enjoyed listening to Allan's two-part TCNW programs on the TAGS writers.
When Everett Greenbaum talked about naming some characters after his
neighbors when growing up in Buffalo (where I'm writing from), I remembered
that in "Man In A Hurry", when Mr. Tucker broke into the tele
n the Rebound", which aired
5 years earlier, was striking - a young woman tried to trick Barney into
marrying her, and her "father" was really her husband. Even though the
writers were completely different, it's clear that they really liked the

writers were absent during the color episodes. another
factor would be that a lot of the BW episode writers wrote
several scripts and some even wrote several together so the comedy flowed much
better. Then in the color episodes most writers only wrote
one script. There were about 50 writers all
Being on total bed rest these last few weeks I've had time to think.
I come up with ideas but have trouble getting them onto paper. My latest idea
is this: a story about Mayberry told from Gomer's POV.
Picture it: 1984 Gomer is home from the Marines with his wife Lou Anne Pyle
nee Poovey.
Barney was no writer according to Andy, even though he knew how to Fade In.
But hey, that lady from New Hampshire was no writer either but she still wrote
that Peyton (peeton) Place!

Here is another quote from a famous writer. In the episode Opie Loves Helen,
Barney asks Opie if he knows any poems. Opie proceeds to recite The boy stood
on the burning deck. This is the start of the famous poem Casabianca by
Felicia Dorothea Heman.

In Three Wishes for Opie, Barney quoted Dr. Earl Osmond, PPD. He was the
author of the book Psychic Phenomena. Bet that book sold almost as many
copies as mine.

Several famous writers were quoted on the show. Let's see how many we can

Well, Barney indirectly referenced Dickens when he said its like a tale out of
two cities and George Bernard Shaw was paid homage to by My Fair Ernest T

Several famous writers were quoted on the show. Most of the time Andy did the
quoting. Let's see how many we can think of, and I will start when Andy quoted
Shakespeare when he told Opie the story of Romeo and Juliet. Then he later on
quoted from Ralph Waldo Emerson's poem The Concord Hymn
to notice another TAGS connection I had never seen before. ( I
think they are doing MASH again this weekend)
A very famous episode Abyssinia Henry: was written By Everett
Greenbaum and Jim Frizzell. These veteran TAGS writers scripted the
touching episode when Colonel Henry Blake, played by McLean
