RE: [libreoffice-website] RE: Infra call on Tue, May 18 at 16:30 UTC

2021-05-18 Thread Jonathan Aquilina
Hi Guilhem,

My IP lists are sourced from my pbx of malicious ip's trying to exploit the
pbx. Also have Wordfence of ip's trying to brute force my wordpress sites and
cpanel of ip's trying to brute force my server. I don’t think that such IP's
are an issue to share.

Prior to the firewall migration wouldn’t it be better to get an IDPS system in
place and move the rules over once such a system is in place such as snort?

It's probably best to schedule another call during the coming days or weeks.
We'd need to convert the existing shorewall-based firewall policy rules to
nftables, and come up with a smooth upgrade path.

ipset replacement is trivial ‘set NAME { type ipv[46]_addr; [timeout 10m;] }’
but that's not the focus here given we don't make use of ipsets in the first
place. Also we likely can't exchange IP lists for privacy reasons. I think
dynamic sets populated on the fly by the IDS, and automatically released after
some minutes, would be fine :-)

Cheers,

 Hello,

given we have just improved our internal tooling a bit, here's an
updated text on how to contact the infrastructure team. Hope that makes
 communication even easier! ;-)

 1. If you have a question or want to discuss topics, please use our
public infrastructure mailing list website@global.libreoffice.org which
many admins and other community members regularly read to give support
 and advice.

 2. In case you want to directly get in touch with the infrastructure
team, only to post confidential information, or when your message didn't
get picked up when needed, please directly poke our admins on a private,
nonpublic mailing list by writing to hostmas...@documentfoundation.org

 3. If you are savvy enough to directly file a ticket, please do so at
 our public Redmine instance at
 https://redmine.documentfoundation.org/projects/infrastructure - do not
use BugZilla anymore for filing infrastructure bugs. In case you post
confidential information, please do mark the ticket as private.

 4. For direct communication, we also have a public IRC channel
#tdf-infra on irc.freenode.net, with many admins and other community
members regularly online. Be advised that due to the nature of IRC,
messages might get missed or overseen. In case you receive no reply in
time, please use one of the above contact methods instead.

On a general note: Please decide thoroughly whether contacting
individual admins makes sense. The admin team shares the work, and by
contacting someone directly, you raise his or her workload and exclude
the others from joining. The more public and transparent we work, the
better we can gain new contributors.

No concern. As some are containing spam this is somewhat expected.

Just teach gmail not spam and don't worry about it...
You can also create a filter to avoid having moderator mails sent to spam.

In terms of the planet could we link to it so it also sends out a tweet

I know, and I am very sorry about this issue. We have been working hard
behind the scenes to improve things, and actually managed to get it a bit
better - however, it's not working 100% perfect still.

We nailed down the problem to be related to the main libreoffice.orgsite, not
any of the wikis. The moment I turn off the main site, the load
goes down almost immediately. We had also one of our admins colleagues have
a look, who's a database expert, but his tries were unsuccessfull as well.

In theory, we could shift the website to another server to distribute the
load, but the problem is there are quite some dependencies between the main
site and other components - so we would have to migrate them as well and
 have no benefit.

I am currently looking if I can nail down the culprit, as it's still
unclear whether there is really a boost in site use and thus grown load, or
whether some new script is running amok and senselessly wasting CPU
 resources.

 Keep your fingers crossed,
 Florian

TDF infra is currently evaluating Redmine for internal purposes, as an
 extension or replacement for OTRS.

However, for replacing Bugzilla it IMHO is unsuitable, as it is more a
project management tool than a bug tracker. I really, really, would not

 what
good it can do for us.

That said, the majority of the work wouldnt be the bugs themselves (and
 that
migrating that would already be huge), but also rewriting all the bazillion
small things that glue stuff together like:
 - bug stats for the ESC
 - wiki integration
 - commit notification on bugs
 - email list forwarding
 - twitter feeds
 - adjusting common workflows
 - migrating over all current users
 - finding a sweet spot in the release cycle where this is least painful
 - lots of other stuff

some of the above is just as much work as setting up RedMine and migrating
 the
data, some of it is at least ten times as much work (namely pestering all
 our
existing bugzilla users to migrate). So IMHO this isnt something to
 consider
for LibreOffice the product in 2013 or 2014. Maybe later. ;)

so, in theory, we can offer you a MySQL database. However, the machine
hosting the BSA is right now already at its limits, mostly related due
to the load SQL creates (we're just growing and growing which raises the
infra needs once again :-) - so I'm right now in favor of not adding
more databases, but first finding a solution to the high load.

By when would you need a database for testing? That's key IMHO. :-)

[libreoffice-website] Fwd: [Bug 70285] cleanup generated C++ code ...

2013-10-21 Thread Jonathan Aquilina
Is it possible to make the font a bit bigger. the original email has very
tiny font by default for some reason and forwarding it seems to make it
larger

Thanks Noel - looks prettier :-)

Of course - it's really best to leave the easiest EasyHacks for people who are
just getting into the project - they are difficult to create and serve a much
more useful purpose than the issues they are fixes for as easy hacks :-)

ie. if an expert developer spent a week they could fix some big proportion of
our easy-hacks, but ... the real trouble is then creating / finding
annotating new ones (along with restraining ourselves from doing them ;-)

Anyhow - good to see it cleaned up :-)

The above is killer on the eyes.

for all dates, one of Robert, Alex, Christian, Alin or myself is missing,
and I just got notice that November 9 (the only weekend that makes some

My proposal is to shift the next admin meeting to early next year then,
and plan in time, to hopefully get everyone at the same time. :-) In the
meantime, let's aim for some informal evening meetings in Munich or
Kaufbeuren to stay in touch - like yesterday evening, Alex, Robert and I
had a very productive meeting, and we'll meet in Munich on Monday evening
 with Alin as well.

Does this sound agreeable to everyone?

LibreOffice Conference, but in our country.

indeed, it was a pleasure being there and a real honour - I really enjoyed
my stay, and the Brazilian community is just amazing, they really rock! ;-)

Because of this, I was thinking if the Brazilian LibreOffice Community
can have a subdomain like the LibreOffice Conference. If it is possible,
I would like the address: encontro.pt-br.libreoffice.org or
encontro.libreoffice.org, the second one is my desire, but if it is not
possible, I can survive with the first one.

So, from a sysadmin point of view I am rather restrictive here, because I
fear in the end we will lose structure, and end up with dozens of
subdomains in various languages nobody knows where they belong to, causing
 lots of work.

However, and people may call me biased here, seeing all the activity going
on and that you think it is so important, as an exception, I would relax
the requirements here, and set it up for you.

However, this should not be a precendent for other projects, it's really
 an exception here. ;-)

I would like to work with the wordpress structure for this subdomain.

Do you already have a WordPress running somewhere we can use?

The last request is a list: encon...@pt-br.libreoffice.org

Sure, that's an easy one! Should it be a discussion list with you as

that is dependent on your email client regarding the reply to all issue. I
have done some research into setting up a debian repo I have not tested it
but it can be done using reprepro

http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/286

This is for debian but should be acceptible to be setup on ubuntu. I can do
some testing on this at some point. I would love to hear Florian's input on
this. I was also thinking doing the same for rpm based distros provide them
with packages as well.

 Exactly.

Also, I noticed that the packages for 4.1 do not replace the ones for 4.0,

For the majority of users, having this linked into their systems update
mechanism will help keep the majority of the userbase up to date, anyone
who doesn't want to update can always pin the older versions in apt.

For me, the company I work for are looking to move to a full OSS
deployment, including LibreOffice. If they had an apt repository it would
make managing the installation across out entire network much easier as we
can just put the relevant packages in SaltStack states.

Also, a minor thing, the list doesn't seem to automatically set the
reply-to header on the emails, so my last email went only to Alex and not
 the list. Contents:

Hi Alex, nice to meet you too!

Sorry I'm having issues finding that specific thread in the archives, do
 you have a link?

I'd also be happy to help out in other items discussed at the weekend, such
as the proposed transition to nginx. I added some of my thoughts to the
bottom of the pad. There are some pretty cool things we could do with it,
like run php in fcgi mode on N (virtual) machines, have M instances of
nginx load balance across them connecting directly to the php fcgi
 instances.

With regards to time, that's the answer I was hoping for :)

Re: [libreoffice-website] Re: Web Administration

2013-07-29 Thread Jonathan Aquilina
Alex if you want to go back to system versions you purge the nightly and
then remove the repo and reinstall the system version

I have added the developers list.

Greetings developers

I wanted to put forth a suggestion at the admin weekend this past weekend
but I have done so now. As in the previous emails the suggestion was to
create TDF hosted deb and rpm based repositories. I was talking with joel
madero earlier in the week and using dpkg basically messed up his system.
Seeing as dpkg doesnt do dependency resolution I was thinking of a
repository to prevent end users from having to use dpkg and run into
dependency problems.

Seeing as the builds are mostly automated all that would need to be done is
them put in the repo. The advantage of these repos is that those that want
to be on the bleeding edge can as well i feel it will improve overall QA as
it is easier to install the latest version. This isnt limited to Debian
based distros but can also be applied to rpm based distros as well.

Looking forward to developer feed back

Regards
Jonathan

the private instance of own cloud. What I am wondering if its possible to
some how during upload or after uploading have own cloud encrypt the data
for that person or for a particular session.

I think we lack resources here - ownCloud is a good solution IMHO. :)

ownCloud supports encryption, but then, it's not sharable with other
users. As I understand our ownCloud instance for public sharing of data, I
don't see encryption as a main issue.

Re: [libreoffice-website] mirror system not working properly?

2013-07-25 Thread Jonathan Aquilina
74 is probably the ip address your modem has. the first hop you will see
will be the internal ip address of your LAN then the modem could be a
modem/router so that is probably why you are seeing another internal ip
address before the router of the cable provider.

Is the system having problems, or does it just pick a mirror closest

thanks for sharing! Our download system assumes the best mirror available

during release days, when a high download rate happens. :-)

Can you try again tomorrow, when the first rush has settled, and if it's
still slow, let me know your IP address and the mirror automatically
chosen? I'll then fine-tune its settings.

 Thanks!

Hey guys after doing some research about askbot I found its based on django
and it seems possible that the token used before migration was not migrated
along with it.

I am not sure if this would help fix any issues with the above mentioned
error. Also it is important to make sure that you update and follow the
documentation for the version of django that is being used.

[libreoffice-website] pootle URL and slow loading of pootle site

2013-07-10 Thread Jonathan Aquilina
Good morning Translaters and those website list subscribers.

I have one suggestion and another which is either an issue or the web
server needs a bit of tweaking

1) is it possible to have an easier and not so long winded url to get to
the pootle site like pootle.libreoffice.org for instance.

2) I am also noticing that the site is rather slow to load is there
something up with the webserver or does it need some tweaking?

Re: [libreoffice-website] Wiki registration and spam statistics

2013-07-08 Thread Jonathan Aquilina
After doign further digging someone suggested that some hacking needs to be
done on questy itself. and below is what im quoting from irc

1) You define the questions and answers in LocalSettings.php, right?
2) You can probably add a conditional to check browser language, maybe.I'm
not sure that gets passed, though HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE, maybe.

What my next step to do is setup on my testing vm a testing setup of
mediawiki and questy and try and get the language detection dependent on
the browser working, if there is someone that would like to work on this
with me that speaks another language other then english that woudl be great
as english is all i use.

The first thing which has to be done in advance is, that the wiki has

What would people prefer? The new, unbranded template, or the old one?

Re: [libreoffice-website] update on MirrorBrain

2013-06-06 Thread Jonathan Aquilina
In terms of packaging I am more then willing to help out with packaging
this and potentially getting it included in Ubuntu 12.10 releases. I know
someone whose a pro at packaging who could more then likely mentor me, if
its something that I could help with in terms of packaging.

On Thu, Jun 6, 2013 at 4:34 PM, Florian Effenberger
flo...@documentfoundation.org wrote:

 Hello,

I wanted to follow-up with some details on the MirrorBrain migration
that's still in the works - and telling why it takes so long. ;-)

TL;DR: We need to package MirrorBrain on our own and contribute that
upstream. As I lack development experience, help is needed. Cloph will
support me, and maybe Alex and Robert would like to join?

So far, we have been running MirrorBrain on an Ubuntu 10.04 based machine,
where official packages do exist. For the migration to a 12.04-based
system, we had success with using the official packages for Ubuntu 11.10
(as no newer ones did exist).

I used this version as basis for installing it on the new machine and
 documenting it there.

Just when I was ready to pull the plug, those packages disappeared all of
a sudden from the official download location - reason is unknown, maybe
some recent changes broke the build.

I managed to come up with my own set of packages, thanks to the help of
Michael and Kendy, available at http://download.opensuse.org/**
 repositories/home:/floeff/http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/floeff/.
The installation of those work, although some more manual intervention is
necessary, e.g. with regards to Python modules, and I have quite a huge
documentation patchset compared with the official version.

I feel a bit honoured, as I just heard that the VLC folks seem to
officially use my build now that I've also created for Debian 7.0. ;-)

However, I still don't feel comfortable with the result, even if it works
 - target OS is Ubuntu 11.10, and I have to manually update the mod_geoip
module to support IPv6, plus some other fixes and glitches. Feedback I have
received so far tells me several other projects using MirrorBrain are
suffering from similar issues, and IMHO, for such a central infrastructure
as the download redirector, having a clean and stable basis is a must.

Sadly, I totally lack development experience. While I basically of course
do understand how packaging works, I'm really a newbie here, and I think it
would take a while to get me introduced to all that magic. ;-)

I just gave Cloph a call, and he will help me. What I'd like to have is
that we - either via the OpenSUSE build service, or on one of our own
machines - provide clean and stable packages, at least for Ubuntu 12.04 and
Debian 7. This requires developing our own control files, taking into
account dependencies and the like, and I'd also like to contribute those
upstream, to the benefit of all MirrorBrain users.

@Alex, Robert: Would you like to join these efforts? You two also do have
development experience, and could be a great help! We could meet for an
afternoon or evening in Munich and try to get it running.

 Thanks,
 Florian

I'll reply onlist, as I have incorporated some further changes. Thanks a
lot for letting me know about the issue!

It seems we are not the only one affected, as I have received feedback
from other open source projects stating similar - a new wave of spam seems
 to have arrived for wikis.

What I have done now is:

 - extended the list of questions to have both the old and the new ones
 - enabled the captcha for editing pages, creating pages, and adding
 external URLs to pages
 - disabled those captchas for autopromoted users
 - autopromoted users are those having at least 10 edits *and* at the same
time have been existing longer than five days

While this will probably not disable account creation, it hopefully rasies
the barrier for spamming. Can you have a look if this helps, and give me a
 ping in a few days?

 Thanks,
 Florian

I tried so - new wordlists, more complex font, to no avail. I assume that

As crazy as this might sound is this all wikis are do they git hit this

Yes, it should be dealt with by the company that is leasing the IP address
to TDF, or so I was told by the tech support people who uses that black
list. He cannot figure out why anyone would black list any IP address that
is used by LO. He is a LO user.

I think there was some trouble with a holder of several of the 5.x.x.x IP
address. It seems to read, from the black list company report, that there
was problems with the original user of the IP address [s] or maybe how fast
the leasing company dealt with the problems.

What ever caused that IP address LO uses to be black listed, it should be
cleared up for a new user to lease it without them being black listed for
 someone else's issues/problems.

How long will it take to do the full process? Even if it was fixed at the
black listing company, it would take weeks or months for all the different
users of that list to update their copy of the list or report. I had one
Hosting account change where it took over 2 weeks for my Internet access
company to update their DNS/routing system to reflect the change in the DNS
listing to match my domain name to the hosting company's server[s]. Of
course, that was over 10 years ago, before I switched to one company for
both domain name and web hosting.

I had the same issue with the public ip my isp had given me for my business
line. I contacted them to let them know that it was black listed and it was
quickly resolved. I think at this point Florian would need to file a
support request letting hetzner know the ips in question and informing them
the date that ip address was black listed was prior to the ip being given
to the TDF and they should immediately get it resolved.

I just did a check on apews.org and non of the domains are coming up as
being black listed so it seems the ip addresses have already been removed.

I agree with everything said here, the question to check is when was it

 us...@global.libreoffice.org

I have emailed Florian about this issue that has been picked up now that
there has been an upgrade to the list management package.

I have found out that LO is using an IP address that has been black listed
 at apews.org.
The query to their system states
Entry matching your query: E-179983 5.0.0.0/8
Special Reason: IP allocation to providers with a bad reputation
 and
History: Entry created 2007-05-28 2012-05-31: Reason changed from No
traffic until allocated IP allocations to providers with a bad reputation

It looks like someone using that IP, or IP address's original service
provider, had a bad reputation and now that the
bilbo2.documentfoundation.org** is using a 5.9.xxx.xxx, the system of
the provider of the email account[s] I use uses several black listing
services. It seems that only one has the 5.9.xxx.xxx IP address in their
system. LO was not even around back in 2007. So I was told by my email
people that the IP provider may need to address this with the black listing
 service.

 pumbaa.documentfoundation.org** is using a 176.9.xxx.xxx IP address
thoughand it seems to be unaffected, so far.

I really hate that a good company/organization gets to have problems from
someoneelse's problems with an IP address [or range of] that we/they have
now that was leased to some trouble maker in the past.

 SO
if you, like me, use Godaddy.com to host your email
account[s]/domain[s]/etc., then yo might be affectedlike I am.

But the weird part is that not all of the posts from all of the threads
for the 3 lists are being bounced back to LO's system.

 --

 By-the-way
when I told support person at Godaddy.com which domain the IP address was
for, he had nothing but good things to say about LibreOffice. He is a user
 himself. He lovesLibreOffice, he stated.

has a limit of 10 . Is there a head count yet ?

If the number of people increases is a video based solution necessary such
as hangout? I can check with a friend to see if we could use his teamspeak
server that way all anyone would need is a mic if we get more then 10
people that express interest online.

 Hello,

as you may have seen, we plan to host a dedicated LibreOffice admin
meeting in Linuxhotel Essen. The date has now been set to

 July 26 - 28

In case you would like to participate - we are open for new volunteers
who'd like to join our group - please get back to me as soon as possible,
as I have to do the final reservation soon, approximately on Wednesday.

The hotel and travel will be covered by TDF. For those living far away
from Essen, we will organize an IRC session or Google Hangout for one or
 two hours.

 Looking forward to your participation!

What we still need to implement, though, is a selection of other downloads
(Do you also want to have the language pack?).

What would this entail to get this implemented?

Re: [libreoffice-website] admin meeting this summer

Date is flexible that weekend for me. I would only be able to join through
google hang out or phone conference. I wonder could we also use irc in
conjunction with the conference call for those that do not have a

 Hello,

this summer, we plan again for an admin meeting in Linuxhotel Essen.

It is primarily intended as working weekend for those already part of our
infrastructure team, but we'd like to take a chance to also invite those
who are new and interested to join this area of the project. For a part of
the meeting, we also plan to have a phone conference or Google Hangout, to
 get remote participants involved.

The poll for date is available at

 http://moreganize.ch/**bmxeKXZL7Juhttp://moreganize.ch/bmxeKXZL7Ju

Rough translation: Only the respective Saturdays are shown, but the
meeting is planned Friday evening to Sunday lunchtime. The ideal weekend
would be July 19th to 21st, as for the other dates, I have an event in
Munich before and would have to catch the night train to Essen.

Looking forward to lots of feedback!

sure, understandable given the distance to Germany. ;-)

conjunction with the conference call for those that do not have a

I really would like to focus on a voice-based meeting, for a limited
period of time. Otherwise, based on my experience, this will render the
whole thing useless, as remote people cannot really get productive, because
chatting is distracting, and onsite people cannot really get productive,
because having to communicate via chat is distracting.

I was thinking about a one or two hours session via voice and video.

err - have you ever used Skype? It uses your broadband, unless you dial to

Re: [libreoffice-website] OpenSUSE Build Service and MirrorBrain

2013-05-13 Thread Jonathan Aquilina

 Judging by https://build.opensuse.org/**project/show?project=Apache:**
 MirrorBrainhttps://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=Apache:MirrorBrainit
seems it has indeed been removed, and I'd be interested to add it again.
As we need the package anyways, I'd even be happy to maintain a Ubuntu
12.04 repo there, if someone can give me a helping hand on where to start.

Florian is there really a need for a 12.04 repo in terms of packaging when
canonical maintains updated versions in a ppa on launchpad?
