As always.another good reminder to NOT run things as 'root', if you
don't have to.

The problem is encountered when using the extension installer/uninstaller
weectl
extension. If you install WeeWX v5 via a package install and then use weectl
extension install to install an extension, some or all of the extension
files may be installed in an incorrect location. At this stage
I'm using weewx 5.0.0-1 (which I upgraded through Debian apt) and the
GW1000 driver. Does that mean I should not install the driver via
wee_extension until a new version comes out?
Thanks...

Thanks to all. I made a template index.txt.tmpl in ./skins/Standard.
Added a new group [[[index_txt]]] with that tmpl in skin.conf. Bingo
all goes like it should.

Thanks/ I didn't know about the CheetahGenerator stuff.
The thing I am doing here is combining WS data (Wind stuff) with external
data (runway direction) to get derived values (preferred runway and
crosswind)

I don't need to store anything in the database. It's just a "now" site for
an airfield using data from a FO station. So the index.html is pretty
simple.
After wee_reports, I pick the wind/gust speed/direction out of the
generated html. Then I combine that with runway (direction) info to

Sounds fine, you might do something like:
Windspeed =

Ian,
While not an answer to your actual question, are you aware of jordi's
Runway Plot Generator? It seems like it could be useful.

I understand the tags thing. How do I fire up the report generator to
create this file?

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking for. If it's to directly read the
LOOP packets, the Vantage driver can do that. If you used the setup.py
install method, it would look something like this:
cd /home/weewx
PYTHONPATH=bin python -m weewx.drivers.vantage --port=/dev/ttyUSB0

Hello Andrew
Thank you for your answer. I do not think Davis has any interest in being able
to read the console directly? The python script described by me, I found here
in the forum.
I guess that's something someone wrote from here? Here is the link to
maybe you should just tell Davis that they should provide a Python script
to allow you to read the instrument cluster directly like Lufft!

Hello Alan
The Without the console sounds good. Do you have the link to this topic?
Primarily, however, it would concern me that I could directly read the console
via a python script. So without a software. With the weather station Lufft
there is a python script, which can read out the sensor
Without the base station? I did that for a couple years with the Vantage
Vue using a 3DR radio.
If that is what you are trying to do, wxforum has an extensive thread
titled "Implementing a Si1000 based wireless receiver for Davis ISS data"
that I used to get it running.
